This is a solid design. People today (2024) really don't know how to make a fireplace. They are in love with a back wall "angled in" for a "smoke shelf." Nonsense. This crap is sometimes needed because the flue of the chimney is too big and in a big, wide chimney air can come down from wind. This design is best... a smaller pipe and flue, and always insulate it. Flat back wall like a Rumford.
