I am witnessing the same thing happening to a family who has a missing child. Online harassment and threats have came into real world stalking. Quite a few of us have spoken out about how it’s illegal, unethical..(slander) Then we ourselves become targets. I don’t think the average person realizes the dangerous alley that they are traveling, and how real life victims are targeted. I think one of the solutions is to have people produce actual ID to have a social media account. Because people who are anonymous, are some of the worst.

Trolling has been depressingly normalized by trolls, many of whom see themselves as cool/edgy/clever and as renegade free speech activists of sorts as has online antisocial engagement amongst a massive number of younger men especially. This dovetails into other dehumanizing aspects of internet platforms/culture - the explosion of degrading streaming pornography and its impact on development and relationships, online stalking of love interests / objects of obsession that can culminate into deadly violence, all of the adverse impacts of online dating platforms, ever-worse social media apps, etc.
