So true about newbies, it’s taking me about 2.5 hours to tarp and secure a 35’ trailer. It’s unacceptable, but it’s where I’m at. I am getting better with it each time though. Mainly, I just run out of gas and get tired. I’m dealing with 100+° temps in the Deep South and tarping just wipes me out. I have to go shower immediately, every time I tarp a load.

    • @JustTheFacts317

Yes its a bitch especially when the freight is really tall. Completely wears you out and then having to drive afterwards its rough ! They should make light weight tarps because the heavy ass tarps is very difficult

The only problem I see is something a Utah DOT gave me a paper about. He pulled me into the scale one morning in Price,UT,now granted I pull tankers.I had 3 bags of chains tarp strapped to my catwalk behind the truck. He informed me that any device used to secure something, anything,to a commercial vehicle has to have a load rating and tarp straps do not have one. So in other words you can use the tarp straps to make it look pretty, but you’d better put a strap,or something over the tarps or it’s a load securement fine.

On the ends, pull the corners across first, then flap the centre over them. That way it is cleaner with fewer pockets to trap water, and less chance of the airflow ballooning the sheets.
I see you are wearing gloves, but be wary of wearing rings. In any manual work they can catch and result in serious injury. A fellow driver lost a finger when he put his hand on the edge of a trailer as he jumped off it.
Very good advice at 3-00. Concentrate on doing a job correctly, and you will get quicker without trying to.

Very informative, and helpful tips, thank you! Your editing shows great creativity. My only suggestion would be to lower the music volume during your monologue, and perhaps mix up the tunes a little. You’re doing good!

I appreciate it. I’m trying to work on that, I know the same song gets monotonous. I will be incorporating some editing software in the next few weeks and I’ll have more control over the audio and be able to do the things you’re talking about.

The music volume is fine compared to other videos I've seen. Sammy's coughing in his videos drives me crazy cause its so loud coming through the audio jack

Super Trucker! I try to keep the volume down enough to hear me but up enough to cover the action scenes. It’s a fine line

Can you do a video of how you fold them so that you get them to where you can roll it out and it be where it needs to be?

What I noticed in your time lapse is how much your load compressed when you winched the straps. I am a new flatbedder and sure do appreciate your videos. Thanks again!!

Hey flatbedders, why do you like doing what you do?
Do you get into the city as often as us reefer guys?
Do you often find your shippers and consignees flexible in receiving you hours or days early?
Do you actually log on duty time while you tarp/secure? Can you still run around 3k a week?
I think I’m tired of my motorized box.
Any thoughts on good companies for a green one?

I'm just getting done with orientation with EW wylie. Tarping looks to be a giant pain in the ass, but I wanted something that got me out of the truck and active. Was gaining too much weight just doing dry van. Pays better too.
