Technically only on zebra crossings. However, at traffic lights (or any other road where pedestrians are crossing) the pedestrians shouldn't walk if it is a red man for them but if they do then you have to give way to them. Technically the pedestrians could be impeding traffic so in that sense they are also in the wrong but jaywalking isn't illegal in the UK unlike in the US. Either way this cyclist isn't breaking any laws as he is using his horn to warn people that are about to cross or to notify people of his presence which is what the highway code recommends and he does give way to pedestrians at the start but he was annoyed which is probably what a lot of people would feel if they were in that situation.

Says the commenter who either doesn't ride or at least not in urban areas like London. I used a bell in the city and it's oftentimes completely drowned out by traffic noise. Sure, it would be NICE to give a pedestrian a bell warning first, but since when is this incumbent on the cyclist when it comes to people flagrantly breaking the law? Do cars have "gentle" and "loud" horn settings? Nope. So then why would you expect a bicycle to have two warning devices, especially when one is usually ineffective? If you don't want a FUCKING LOUD HORN BLAST, don't be an asshole and cross illegally like an ignorant and entitled dickwad! Cyclists are regularly hurt by illegally crossing pedestrians. I've avoided many in my life, knowing the "handlebar high-side" incidence of cyclist-pedestrian collisions. No, peds should not be able to endanger others without consequence.
He could have honked further away from that last guy instead of sneaking up on him. You should't be walking in the bikelane but I would be angry if I didn't even get a chance to move
Hell, the guy barely has anywhere to move. Sneaking up on him like that and blowing an airhorn for him to get out of the way could easily have had him end up in the car traffic on the right.
I have used an air horn for my mountain bike when I almost had a collision with a car that pulled out in front of me, and I also used it at a traffic light intersection to tell a car that was idling in front of me to go as the light turned green. It turns out that air horns are pretty useful for traffic use on bikes.

Even though cycle lanes aren't compulsary, why do cyclists ride on the road when "there is a perfectly good" cycle lane to "the" "side"??? Your logic takes all of one second to be rendered ridiculous, hypocritical and highly lacking....
He really deserved it, even if he didn't belong there where else was he meant to go once there, he isn't going to dive into car traffic to get out the way of a bike.
The last bloke may have been forced into the cycle lane by the construction works (as per the hoardings are there on the left). A bit over the top and likely to result in a confrontation. As a fast-walking pedestrian I am constantly blocked by phone zombies but just rattle my keys.
Not really though with a path on the other side of the road I live in Manchester where the amount of building work is ridiculous but you don't learn to cross over the other side of the road otherwise you will be run over by cyclist 🤣
Or ... this might be crazy but maybe the guy could of just been on the path on other side of the road ? i mean crazy idea but i think it might of saved his having the fright of his life XD
@@banalot3564 More than a fright, I know someone who has lost their hearing after an airhorn went off behind him at a distance similar to the 2nd blast in the last clip. Certain heart conditions also result in problems if the person is startled like that. They are wrong for being in the cycle lane, that I won't argue and I agree, but IMHO using an airhorn like this guy did in a few of those clips should be classed as assault.
@@Josh23761 and it would still remain that if he wasnt walking in the road and following the highway code then he wouldnt of had a air horn blasted behind him .. whats the meaning of karma again?
@@banalot3564 The word directly means 'action', 'work' or 'deed' and often refers to the spiritual principle of cause and effect. That means if you're an asshole it's more likely that bad things will happen, it usually refers to natural occurrence which balances to no more than the sum of the persons good or bad deeds depending on the reward or consequence. Deliberately making someone permanently deaf in one ear for the rest of their life for the simple action of walking on a cycle path is not a balance of cause and effect, it is completely disproportional. The cyclist should have just run him over instead and then it would indeed be karma acting through him and is in accordance with the balance because his actions of walking on the cycle path had directly resulted in the consequence of being hit by a bike. To blast someone's ear drum and make them permanently deaf in that ear for life is in fact assault and would be dealt with as such, regardless of if the victim broke the highway code. It could perhaps even be a GBH charge considering permanent damage has occurred. By your logic if someone speeds through a 30 zone outside my house at 50 and I decide to stab them in the eye that is karma being acted through me? No, it's not, it's a blatant act of violence. Now if someone broke into my house and in defense of my family I push them back with non lethal force and they happen to fall down and hit their head, then that is karma acting through me because I did not directly decide on their punishment. Just like had the cyclist simply allowed his bike to hit the person then he was not deciding on a punishment but rather carrying on with his affairs which would have resulted in karma being acted through him, since it goes without saying, don't walk on a cycle path unless you want to be hit by a bike. Any injury to the guy walking on the cycle lane would be their own fault and the cyclist would be absolved providing there is no indication that they sped up or deliberately changed course in order to hit the person. Not only that, but had the cyclist been knocked off from the impact then the individual at fault who walked on the path would be liable and thus the cyclist could be compensated for it, and had they punched the cyclist like in the video they would be the one who committed assault. But instead the cyclist chose to transgress and allow themselves to be drawn into someone else's bad karma. You may have confused law and order with karma, but your argument is not even for justice since what you justify is a blatant transgression: the punishment outweighs the crime. It sounds to me like you either wish to impose a draconian way of social justice or you are a violent individual who looks for justification to carry out harm towards another human being, I hope this is not true and if it is I hope you try to change your attitude, there is too much violence in the world. Above all else, having such a violent and spiteful attitude is in fact bad for your own karma too :). If this is too much for you to comprehend or you can't be bothered to read it (which I understand TBH) then just remember that age old saying; "two wrongs don't make a right".
@@Josh23761 so "That means if you're an asshole it's more likely that bad things will happen" means walk in the road (action) = airhorn (karma) right got you its done then guy should of been where the highway code deems him to be and as a result of him failing to follow a simple rule he got a nice airhorn blast simple ... so but highway code rule for stupid road walker.... Rule 1: Always use roadside pavements or any path at the side of a road if there is one. Try to avoid walking close to the kerb when your back is facing oncoming traffic from behind you. Make sure to look both ways and check for traffic if you need to step into the road. so walk on pavement where possible (there was a pavement on the right hand side of the road. Rule 2: Sometimes there will be no pavement to walk on. In this case, keep to the right-hand side of the road in the United Kingdom. Doing so means you can see the traffic moving towards you. Even so, take extra care and: Always stay close to the side of the roadway. Consider walking in single file if you must walk in a narrow roadway or in low lighting. Give due care and consideration for other road users when crossing the road. As a rule, it is often safer to cross the road some distance before a sharp right-hand bend. Oncoming traffic will have a better chance of seeing any pedestrians. You can then cross back after negotiating the sharp bend. so he was walking on the wrong side of the road he should of been even if that pavement that was clearly available need i continue no law against airhorns only rule on horn use... Rule 112 of the Highway Code is very clear on the purpose of vehicle horns, and states that they are only to be used in order to warn another road user of your presence. That means you should never honk as a greeting, or as an expression of annoyance. sooo cyclist using air horn to warm idiot hes clearly in the road and shouldnt be and to inform the idiot he is blocking traffic
Biking right up to someone and then honking is aggressive. You noticed the last guy a long way ahead and could have honked earlier. You WANTED to punish/scare him… and then you got the inevitable response.
@@JRWilson242 Sure, but how about I air horn every cyclist who does not abide by the rules? Cyclists are easily the worst when it comes to following traffic laws. One red light is all it takes for them to turn into "pedestrians"...

why? they should be using a zebra crossing or pedestrian crossing. Otherwise if they gonna cross the road then look properly both ways. Cyclist was clearly in the right.
Guess it's ok for pedestrians to just walk straight into the street among the cars too then by that logic? Most pedestrians don't even fucking look before crossing the bike path and it's infuriating. Two slow cyclists going next to eachother in order to talk, and blocking the path for everyone else is another favorite. Imagine if people did that with cars on the street.....
You must equate the pedestrians to BIRDS. If you can roll by them without them flying away, you have the correct energy. However, the horn and a humorous attitude are 'like gold!'
I'm not suggesting this is a good solution. But imagine people strolling down the middle of the road without looking, when you're trying to drive to work. Constantly - and blaming you for having the cheek to want them to please move.
What Clever idea against London pedestrians walking on the bike lane for no reason and not giving way when they are walking on the bike lane for no reason 😂😂😂
There was a construction on the left so the dude had nowhere else to go. What was the point of the airhorn in this case - where was the dude supposed to go, jump in front of a car? Yeah he shouldn't have been there in the first place, there was a pedestrian lane on the far right. However, you never know where it leads, or if the person is in a hurry or just lost. In any case, you never know if he will jump out of the way and get hit by a car. On top of that the cyclist did see the dude beforehand, it wasn't a surprise why did he wait all that time to blow the horn right behind his back? Are you pranking someone or trying to encourage law abiding? In any case, the cyclist is to blame in the case, he could've avoided such confrontation but he chose to make a triggering RUclips video. Good thing it happened in UK, cause you guys have surveillance everywhere - somewhere in the East the cyclist was going to have his bike struck all the way in his arse for sure...
Bejli Çaushaj As I commented there was construction going. The pedestrian was obviously in a hurry. The street was very narrow - the cyclist could've just shouted 'make way' or sth instead of trying to get Social Media famous by being a prick blowing airhorn on people. Commuting in big cities has always been an issue no mater pedestrian, cyclist or driver. The cyclist would positively cause a huge accident if there was a car close to the dude when he jumped out of the way. That was so unresponsible. If you don't want people to be in your way while commuting maybe move to the countryside and start growing vegetables, something closer to your mental capacity...

@@mikewade777 Pity you didn't fact check that. As annoying as it may be to cyclists, pedestrians may use cycle lanes unless there are signs clearly prohibiting them. This tends to happen mostly on off road cycle tracks. As for cycle lanes in cities and towns, the cycle lane is simply part of the road. Although it is reckless and dangerous for pedestrians to step into the road unwisely it is NOT actually illegal and it is still expected that vehicles and cyclists will avoid them wherever possible. You do occasionally see people jogging in the road. Personally, I find that mad but it is not illegal. Neither is jogging in a cycle lane. It is only cars who should not use the cycle lane.
I am a pedestrian (and driver) myself, and had my share of encounters with kamikaze cyclists, but how difficult is it to grasp that sidewalks are for pedestrians, bike lanes for cyclists, and roads for cars?
... actually, what he is doing is illegal ... pedestrians have an implied right of way on British highways ... thats why there is no offence of jaywalking in UK ... thats why on pedestrian crossings the warnings are advisory not mandatory ... if he collided with a pedestrian it would be him who had committed the offence
yeah but pedestrians also know not to walk in the middle of the road where cars drive.... so i feel like they could learn not to walk in the middle of the bike lane.
Do be aware that this is illegal in most places in Europe; making such a loud sound in traffic is only allowed to signal imminent, unpreventable danger such as a potential car crash. If the police see you using this in an inappropriate scenario, they will give you a fine. Second, this is also dangerous for the pedestrians walking in the wrong lane who could (and almost did at 0:19) jump on the road surprised by the sound and be overdriven by a passing car; although they are at fault walking on the bicycle lane, they do not deserve to die, and if such a scenario were to take place, the cyclist would be the one responsible as his/her use of the airhorn was unwarranted in the first place. It's almost like there already existed a perfectly good solution to this: something like a bell?
EVERYONE, STAY IN YOUR LANE!!! If you're a pedestrian, including if you're jogging/running, stay on the sidewalk and follow the rules when crossing the road. Cyclists, ride in the bike lane wherever one exists, and never on any sidewalk and not even in any crosswalk. Motorists, you already have the lion's share of our roads, and your vehicle is a multi-tonne weapon of road violence, so be sure to take extra special care to respect other road users and follow all laws and rules of the roads at all times, being especially sure to stay out of designated bike lanes 24/7/365. If we all follow these simple rules, we can all coexist on our roads without the need for any conflict. Encourage all road users to use a bell or whistle or horn whenever their designated lane is being actively and unlawfully obstructed. Most injuries and deaths on our roads can be prevented if we all follow these simple rules. STAY IN YOUR LANE!!!
Cycle lanes are often too narrow for that to really be feasible, they also encourage close passes- no thanks, unless the lane is generous, I'll use the general purpose lane, safer. Besides I can't turn right from a bike lane on the far left of a 2/3 lane junction- that is a lot of traffic to swerve across and you will rarely get a chance!
Another entitled cyclist who thinks he owns the road (without any of the expenditure). I;d like to see him try this stunt up here in the North. He would end the video by walking very strangely with his air horn sticking out of his backside.
At least the new highway code now makes things clear. Rule H2: Pedestrians may use any part of the road and use cycle tracks as well as the pavement, unless there are signs prohibiting pedestrians.
Better still, the cyclist takes a fall. Ok, the guy shouldn't have been walking in cycle lane but this arrogant prick of a cyclist well deserved a slap.
@@beaufighter245 so if I go and walk on the tarmac should I expect cars to patiently wait behind me? Or would I be (rightfully) honked at and called an idiot by every driver on the road? Why can't you afford the same respect that you give car drivers to the cyclist who has someone walking in the tiny strip of bike lane that they have?
It is apparent from the Cyclist's attitude, and the comments below, that literally no one knows the highway code, and what is and is not legal. The long and short of it is that the cyclist was in the wrong in almost all of these situations. Pedestrians are allowed to walk on any road that isn't a motorway, and they are allowed to walk in almost all cycle lanes (there are exceptions, but not many). Expecially in the situations where pedestirans are crossing the cycle lanes in shared use areas the Cyclist is obliged to stop and let them pass. It is completely unacceptable, legally speaking, for him to blast his horn at them and demand they give way. He has to give way, that is the law. This is just a cyclist behaving towards pedestrians the way they complain cars behave towards cyclists. They expect cars to tolerate them being slow and in the way on roads, but are unwilling to accept pedestrians being slow and in their way. The irony is quite remarkable.
I get ppl genuinely just hanging out in the cycle lane but a lot of those people were crossing the street when he honked. Even the last guy had to walk in that lane because the sidewalk was blocked.

Even so, take extra care and:
Always stay close to the side of the roadway.
You can then cross back after negotiating the sharp bend.
so he was walking on the wrong side of the road he should of been even if that pavement that was clearly available

Why walk in the bike lane and not on the car lane instead, because technically it is the same thing: a non pedestrian lane.

Why are there so many people walking in the road for seemingly no reason at all? Especially when there is an empty sidewalk right next to them.

London really has an insane pedestrian problem
