Every single time I think of buying one of these: 1. Weekly maintenance. 2. You need space for it to find the dock 3. You have to clean your home for it to work 4. Smears poop/pulls down curtains 5. Costs as much as a PS5 even on black friday
But if u got the ps5 from kohl’s, they would’ve given u a 180 kohl’s cash to use now. I think they even price match so about $220 plus 25% friends and family this week = $165 ain’t bad at all
If you clean the robot dust bin really well with soap and water with the filters removed, allow it to dry, then use a small amount of armor-all inside the dust bin with a lint free cloth, it really helps prevent the build-up and enables better emptying.

Videos like these are appreciated. I think RUclips should come up with a star system to vote on videos instead of the down thumb clicker. IJS
Thank you for making sure everyone knows these are not made to pick up piles of jelly beans or pasta. Those tests are absolutely ridiculous. I love mine. I just bought another one for upstairs. I was going to get an iRobot for upstairs since it’s a much bigger layout and they are about half off right now. However I do not believe it’s worth paying 3 times the price for the i7 plus or twice as much for i3 plus. Especially since both of them also need expensive replacement garbage bags. Also the i3 plus does not have no go zones / room selection, otherwise I would have probably bought it.
Mine has been operational for about a month. Not loving it. Got it to replace a 2 year old Deebot that I retired to the basement (all carpet). Main reason, the Deebot tank is just too small for my 1st floor duty. I'll be short and sweet as to why I dislike the shark. 1. Customer support. Called about a connecting issue (with app). 9 days later, they called me back. but I had already figured it out. 2. Pickup: No where as good as my Deebot or previous Neato's. Has a hard time getting the little bit of kitty litter my cats might drop on the floor. Just a little rock or two, not that often but it just runs over it or tosses it to the side 3. Traded in my 3 brush Deebot flippers to the two little slow moving brushes on the Shark. They seem to throw stuff more then sweep it up. 4. Mapping. OMG! This thing couldn't map it's way out of a wet paper bag. I'm on my 4th try of getting a good map. Goodluck trying to figure out what room is what. When a vac that is half the price can get it right on the 1st try, that's sad. My 1st floor is all hardwood (except utility room) and it's at least 1800sq ft. This thing just can't figure it out. 5. Inability to set up no-go zones. Well, this goes with mapping but my kids sub $200 DeeBot blows this thing away. So hey, Shark. Those mag strips are about 5 years out of date (My old Bot80 from Neato used'em. Good thing I still have some. I really miss my Deebot for this feature. I keep using my Deebot as the standard since it was my 1st wifi vac. I have a D80 Neato and Samsung 9000 series. I hate to say it but my old Gen 2 iRobot Scooba maps (it doesn't really) better then this Shark. The visual map setting SUCKS. Only way I can put it. The ONLY good think I can give the Shark is not having to empty the tank every day. 2 cats and 2 adults. Thats all it has to clean up after. Oh, and one more thing. I just updated my app hoping it would fix some of the mapping issues (like just map your house and not clean but nope. Or fix the scheduling issue so I can tell it to only clean the kitchen everyday instead of the whole house but that's missing too). Great video though. Thanks for your time. I just wish Shark would TRY a little harder to get it's mapping software right.
You helped me out alot with the mapping and understanding how that worked. Thank You. I use can air to spray the dust out of the filter . Works great. Now if I can figure out how to do half of my house one day and the other half on another I'll be all set. Thanks again. 🙂
I enjoyed your video very much.. Both informative and entertaining... Not 100% sure, but the first time I ran the shark IQ (yesterday) it went back to the dock after 30 minutes, recharged and went back out again.. I did a little research and found in the settings that you can turn off the Recharge and resume function and that seemed to allow vacuum to run until low battery instead of going back after 30 minutes Hope this is helpful!
When it starts from full charge, my robot will do 2 30 minute cleaning cycles before it stops to recharge. It goes back every 30 minutes to auto empty.
Just buy a small dust brush or feather duster exclusively for this robot to dust it out well, I might buy this...I hear people whinning about everything ...I just want this thing to get under my beds and couches is the main reason I want one!!!! I own 2 other vacs, but I don't want to bend my back under that furniture!!!
Nice explanation with a very realistic approach. And as you mentioned this doesn’t get in every nook and cranny, but if you take the time to really understand it’s use, what it can and can’t do, its a good little machine. Thanks

Good to know! Mine goes up against a flight of stairs every day and have never had an issue. Are you on carpet at your stairs? I am at a hard surface so may be easier for the cliff sensors to detect.
I just used mine for the 1st time. The vac even when on high seems weak and seems to get everything up just by the main brush. The brush is louder than the sound if the vac. Also my appt won't control it any more. Does this sound like I should send it back.

It seems to have trained itself that there is a strip there so now it goes up to that area and stops.....
The map didn’t look like my place however I watched it on its first cycle and it covered the entire floor so I left it. I watched it the next day and it still had great coverage.
There's no comparison to the roomba self emptying bin. It NEVER leaves any kind of debris including big balls of dust in the bin on mine. Plus the smart home automation with irobot is nice to have.
No comparison in this video because the iRobot is twice the cost and does the same thing. Many reports show that Shark actually has more suction than the iRobot. The only time I have an issue with the bin not emptying all the way is when I do not run it every day for some reason and it gets too full, but that is expected.
And that is because the iRobot uses expensive bags. Iq is bagless. @@BlakeLarson: can you clean the bin with water? I’ve seen a video with someone doing that but can’t find it anymore
Jet is still running great. Gets lost a couple days a week and I have to take him back home once his battery dies. That is to be expected though I think. It’s not perfect. It seems to get more efficient every day.
Ok I have this Shark IQ Robot Self Emptying bin but not the XL. Here is the thing. You’re not cleaning the robot right. I would get either a swifter dry or used dry bounce sheet to clean out the robot. I use a philips screw driver to push the swifter dry sheet in that poor design ledge to pull it out. I never had to use my fingers to dig out dust. Both the swifter dry sheet or bounce dry clean sheets have a static cling that will pull the dust so it will easily clean your robot. Please try that buddy. I clean every 2-3 weeks
this is equivalent to the Samsung power bot/newer roombas ,you cant mess wit it,change stuff, move stuff as well as lights or it will just be making new maps and never get a chance to learn because your actually erasing its data .would be nice if it could save it but they dont have that so it will forever be vacuuming longer and have you wondering why so long or going over same places more than once ,the more it goes the more it understands ,if your do all the above a robot vacuum with a lidar /neato/deebot/roborock will be a better suit, they have no problem make a new maps while being consistent.but either or both do really good
How can I add a room to the map on the app? I have a room that it doesnt go to and i've just run it everyday hoping it would find it, but it doesn't. Thanks for making the video learned some great tips.
Hi i have not used my IQ robot just yet. I have laminate flooring in 2 areas and have a rug that has like bangs in 2 sides, sorry i dont know how to describe it better, is that a problem like wid a regular vacuum cleaner???
Great review, you had another angle to talk about that is very important - how to help the robot map and move efficiently. I will get mine tomorrow, and your feedback helped so much!
The self emptying part was always said to be top notch even the vacumm got good reviews it was software that was dreadful. Its suffers from same fault all but Irobot has, no detection for full bin and i think Irobot owns that technology why no other has it. Funny my roomba 595 hangs out cleaning the room I'm in, guess doesn't like to be alone
I agree that it lacks the feature to auto detect if it’s full. I think shark makes up for that since It can auto empty every 30 minutes. If you run it every day, you should never fill that bin within 30 minutes.
I work at of my home, so the mapping seemed really screwy when I am watching the the robot; thanks for giving some insight as to why an unoccupied house might actually map better. One thing I have noticed is that my unit which I had for 5 days now is it runs in "normal mode" for only maybe 1 hour, then goes back to charge for 4 or more hours. Sometimes it resumes other just stays there like it done for the day. It usually does not return where it left off cleaning (it restarts recleaning the from the base and then starts over the entire house again which drains the 1 hour battery life). No I have not gotten into set up a daily schedule, because I have yet to get a map that looks like my house (so far it totally is missing some rooms from the map or seems to be mapping any area that looks like my back yard too). Do you notice the prolong recharge time versus the amount of cleaning time? I guess I have 90 days to make a good friend or send it back for a divorce.
Great video. Thank you for sharing. I have been wondering about obstacles that are moved after a few months. Do you think that would present a problem?
I think it would depend how much is moved. It will adapt to things moving here and there for sure. If you completely rearrange, I would suggest deleting your map so it is relearned.
Axle Brothers That makes sense. It would be small, movable items like dog beds. Would you recommend picking up everything that can be moved in while it maps the house?
Ya, good video. Best details regarding this vac. I agree about expectations. That is sharks fault though because of the commercials... although they prob wouldn't sell if they were realistic in the commercials.... at least not for over $300. Thanks for the video
I have not had mine long. But it hasn’t found all my rooms yet. I have hardwood floors and they have never felt cleaner. I think when I vacuum I move too fast and don’t pick up all the dust.
I just got a lower priced robo vac to see if it's something I'd like. I love it but it sometimes gets hung up on the corner of area rugs depending on how it approaches it. I thinking of moving it upstairs where it's all wood floors, no rugs and getting a more expensive one for downstairs. Does the Shark do better with this? Great video -- thanks!
My biggest problems with this vacuum is the mapping (but I'll take your tips and see if it gets better) and the app is HORRIBLE. I've had to re-register my robot 4 times and I've only had it for like 2 weeks. All of a sudden it acts like a brand new robot out of the packaging and I have to start all over.
I don’t have much to compare the suction to as I have never owned another robot vacuum. What I can say though is it is very good, especially for dog hair. I have to empty my canister about once a week.
I just received the shark and am disappointed that it does not go back and forth as advertised! Mine has a somewhat OK map of house, but it just goes everywhere! Any ideas?
Did you notice it’ll pause prior to your map being completed? Mine will run, then pause for 2 seconds almost like it loading data. Also how long did it take to fully map your home? Thx
Great video! Did it miss a room or two a few times before finding it? It somehow misses my daughter's room and bathroom..its only ram a few times but I want to help it find them!!! Lol
What do I need to do to make sure it resumes cleaning where it stopped after it recharges. In what I’ve observed so far, if in the middle of a run it drains the battery, it goes back to the dock and stays there. It’s only a week old so still learning, thanks for your help in advance.
I just got this, I set it up like it said. I downloaded the shark app. But I tried to put in my email an a password. An for some reason it won't let me. It says this email/password combination is invalid. No im not good at this stuff. But am trying to learn. Any idea why it says this?
I was wondering with the camera bots if you were to stick some post it notes to the ceiling, would that help with navigation by giving it more points to lock on to?
Hold up. I gotta ask you this question what’s the difference between the Shark IQ iRobot self emptying bin and the Shark IQ iRobot self emptying bin XL?
I've seen at our Canadian Tire store they have the XL (model number RV1001AEC ) and the non XL called mini (model number RV1100SRCA). Mini has smaller garbage bin says 2 weeks worth instead of a month. On their website the mini doesn't mention home mapping. The mini is $100 cheaper.
@@EyesRed a tire store sells this? At first I thought you were joking or being sarcastic but now I believe you. I just upgraded from the same model this guy in the video has to Shark IQ Robot XL self emptying bin that just got released last month. This new robot can now vacuum past 60 minutes. It was able to vacuum a total of 1 hour and 40 minutes. Also, I notice the mapping has improved and the app feature is a lot easier to use. I think they’ve improved the firmware on this newer Shark as well.
I have 4 cats,1 Doberman, and 3 exotic big birds. I clean all the time. This vacuum has cut 1 hour or more off my vacuuming per week. I still use the upright Dyson once a week. I love it. Thank you for explaining the map. Now I get it.

Are they supposed to cover the entire floor?
Is it normal to feel very little exhaust air coming out of this bot as it cleans?
this is equivalent to the Samsung power bot/newer roombas ,you cant mess wit it,change stuff, move stuff as well as lights or it will just be making new maps and never get a chance to learn because your actually erasing its data .would be nice if it could save it but they dont have that so it will forever be vacuuming longer and have you wondering why so long or going over same places more than once ,the more it goes the more it understands ,if your do all the above a robot vacuum with a lidar /neato/deebot/roborock will be a better suit, they have no problem make a new maps while being consistent.but either or both do really good
How can I add a room to the map on the app? I have a room that it doesnt go to and i've just run it everyday hoping it would find it, but it doesn't. Thanks for making the video learned some great tips.
Hi i have not used my IQ robot just yet. I have laminate flooring in 2 areas and have a rug that has like bangs in 2 sides, sorry i dont know how to describe it better, is that a problem like wid a regular vacuum cleaner???
Great review, you had another angle to talk about that is very important - how to help the robot map and move efficiently. I will get mine tomorrow, and your feedback helped so much!
what about clearance under certain pieces of furniture?
I would assume it has a hard time mapping your house when you attach a gopro in the way above it's camera on top of the robot.
My brother has one and it also doesnt map correctly either
how is it at obstacle avoidance like cords or socks?
The self emptying part was always said to be top notch even the vacumm got good reviews it was software that was dreadful. Its suffers from same fault all but Irobot has, no detection for full bin and i think Irobot owns that technology why no other has it. Funny my roomba 595 hangs out cleaning the room I'm in, guess doesn't like to be alone
I agree that it lacks the feature to auto detect if it’s full. I think shark makes up for that since It can auto empty every 30 minutes. If you run it every day, you should never fill that bin within 30 minutes.
Thank you very much for all of the information. It was very helpful.
Do you have to save each map after you do each day's mapping?
very clean. was very informative. thank you . trying to understand the abilities.
Thank You for your review.
your answer and advices on his navigation are good, you didnt talk much about the efficiency of the suction tho.
I don’t have much to compare the suction to as I have never owned another robot vacuum. What I can say though is it is very good, especially for dog hair. I have to empty my canister about once a week.
@@BlakeLarson I have a cat and was thinking about getting this one. I like the idea of not having to empty bin.
did you put a Go Pro on it ? Wonder if wi-if coverage affects mapping ?
I'm thinking maybe he had only put the GoPro on it that day just for this video maybe?
Doesn't it say it's self cleaning? At least the brush?
Very cool and helpful video
I just received the shark and am disappointed that it does not go back and forth as advertised! Mine has a somewhat OK map of house, but it just goes everywhere! Any ideas?
Can you please show how to use the shark app? I just got my sharkIQ
Lol
Great video!
Thank you 😊 💓
Great info thank you
How about the transitions of different floor types? Hardwood to heavy pile carpet and rugs?
I have transitions from low vinyl flooring up to heavy pile carpet and have never once had in issue.
This is a great video. It's very informative. Thanks for the review
Thank you sir! We just purchased one. Your review was very helpful. I will subscribe to your channel. God Bless
My robot seems to be having problems backing up to the dock. Pulls to one side. Any suggestions?
Good practical and detailed review, Thank You
How to do when you have 2 stages. Do you need to move the dock and the robot from the first floor to the second floor?
The Shark is not setup to work with multiple floor level if you want to use the map features. You would need 2 robots.
What do I need to do to make sure it resumes cleaning where it stopped after it recharges. In what I’ve observed so far, if in the middle of a run it drains the battery, it goes back to the dock and stays there. It’s only a week old so still learning, thanks for your help in advance.
Look for recharge and resume in the settings
Can I use it on my second floor as well or do I need to purchase a second one?
I think it only maps one floor.
does it go up and down to 10-15 mm floor?
Does this thing work without internet? I have wifi but my internet is choppy, at times we don't have internet for days.
I bought 1.Love it
Hi, if you're still happy with robot vacuum? Thanks for answer .
I just got this, I set it up like it said. I downloaded the shark app. But I tried to put in my email an a password. An for some reason it won't let me. It says this email/password combination is invalid. No im not good at this stuff. But am trying to learn. Any idea why it says this?
Thanks for the tips
I'm not tech savvy. just wanna run it dumb. can I do that?
Can you adjust height
Excellent Vid
There are no instructions that explain the fact that it runs 30 minutes and returns to the dock, and then goes out again.
Thanks for that info.
Thank you so much👏
Thank you bud!
Does it detect dog poop?
I don't have internet at home, only on my phone. Can I still use this ?
I was wondering with the camera bots if you were to stick some post it notes to the ceiling, would that help with navigation by giving it more points to lock on to?
Probably would help. I would think that the camera lens would be wide angle so it could see the walls as well.
Thanks for the video !!
Great information. Thank you!
Is there a reason I don’t see anyone scheduling the cleaning overnight?
Yes, there must be light for the Shark to work. It’s explained in the video why that is.
Also every robot vacuum is after all a vacuum so its going to make noise.
Which model of Shark IQ is yours?
Very good video! Q: How does it work in a two stories house?
Thank you. It is not designed for multiple stories. It can only hold data for one floor/floor plan. Would be very confused if moved back and forth.
@@BlakeLarson So you can't move this to different floors? that's the reason I need this in my big house.
Correct, the way this model is designed you would have to get one for each level of your house.
Thank you
