This Toy line has ALOT of potential. Mezco could make the movie characters that ToyBiz and Kenner never gave us. I am excited about this Batmobile. It would probably be compatible with the vintage Menner action figures. Don’t forget that the company Super7 is also releasing a Keaton Batmobile that is a 2-seater. 2025 will be a great year for Batman collectors.
ERTL definitely had a mail-away cocoon offer for their 1/25 scale 89 Batmobile model kit - but I never came across anything from Kenner. Maybe share a link? Cheers!
Of the figures, all I want is the Joker, so I'm not sure. Back in the day, the Toy Biz Joker figure was a repaint of the Kenner Super Powers one which is why he doesn't look like Nicholson. Same thing happened with the Penguin and the second movie. Thanks always!
Actually that's not correct. Toybiz was loosely based off the Super Powers figure but did not use the same mold. It was much worse 😆 Package photography used some of the Super Powers figures repainted and of course the art styling was similar. Maybe that's what you're remembering.
Toy Biz did release the cocoon shield with their Batmobile eventually. Nothing can beat the Kenner Dark Knight Collection Batmobile from 1990. Also what good is the 2-seater without a Vicki Vale figure to put in there? 🤷♂️
Just realized that within their one single year of handling the Batman license, ToyBiz had a rarer 1st Edition run of the Batmobile that came with the shield! I’ve never seen it in person but congrats to anyone who owned one! 🎉
@@RetroToyEscapades tbh the shield was crap. It was a molded piece of cheap thin plastic that tore and cracked very easily. I really hope Mezco makes theirs out of a much more durable plastic.
So glad to not only see a revival of these figures, but to introduce the Asian 2 sword wielding thug along with "Bob the Goon". I had all 3 of the Toybiz figs & Batmobile, but sadly gave it to some neighbor's kids. I'm picking these up for sure.
I definitely want this set. I wonder if batman cape is cloth or plastic if it's plastic then how are you going to get the batman figure to sit down in the car that concerns me.
Wow, these are cool! The Batmobile at least is worth the asking price imho. Well, have to see how much my hobby toy store is bringing in this for in Singapore.
@@RetroToyEscapades Then it will get worse if it arrived in Malaysia. The distributor marked everything up almost 200 percent and then pretend to give discounts when you're just getting US retail price. hehehe.
@@RetroToyEscapadesare you joking? It’s like $20 and looks nice. It has a sliding cockpit like the film and fits the 89 Kenner figure. It’s a very good deal.
I remember my original batmobile came with the armor shield. It was flimsy. But it was there. And made a clicky noise when you rolled it. My mom cut out the part yhat made the noise. 😂
what's with the gold utility belt when it is CLEARLY yellow? That's my only frustration....great set otherwise, and Joker not coming with both short and extended revolver gun
Anyone seen the disaster that is McFarlanes Super Powers range, wave after wave of repaints and reused moulds, they make Mattel look like a company that never reuses anything in comparison.
We need more characters besides these three (or four depending on how you look at it). I want a Vicky Vale, Alfred, Alexander Knox, Gordon and more goons!
The Toybiz Batmobile did have the shield cover (“cocoon”) for the Batmobile. Also, those figures were 5”, not 3.75” like Mezco. So unfortunately none of it will be compatible with each other. I really wish Mezco was making this line the same 5” scale as the original.
You said the Shield never came with a Batmobile with this scale, but the Toy biz one did have it. it' was possibly the cheapest plastic possible but the one I had as a kid had it. I've been considering the batmobile, after watching this, because I didn't realize it had a cover and two seats, but the lack or articulation (even less then the original) on the figures makes them less interesting to me.
Yes, I realized Toy Biz had a limited run of the 89 Batmobile released with the Cocoon shield - and then removed it for the 2nd version which I have in the video. Maybe they killed it because the quality was so bad as you said
The sleekness of this outrageous version is undefinable, only matched by its grimness on the streets when in combat against the nefarious gangs causing a ruckus for the police and other officials trying to maintain law and order 🦇♥️
Why does mezco keep making the basic 5 point articulated figures? Its a major drawback, and theyre shooting themselves in the foot like playmobil did with opting to release all vehicles with non opening doors.
a lot of what you said about toybiz isn't correct bro. Toybiz took over from Kenner, and these reproductions are Kenner reproductions, Toybiz got the licence after Kenner and their toys were garbage, Kenners Batmobile had a canopy and is one of my all time fave toys
Actually, what you said isn’t really correct either. Kenner had the DC license in the early 80s (before the movie) and they produced the Super Powers line of figures which featured a ton of classic DC heroes and villains in the 5 inch scale. After that line was canceled in 86, DC sold the rights to Toybiz, so they produced the movie toys when the movie came out in 89. They made 3 figures, Batman, Joker and Bob, the Batmobile without canopy, a Batwing, and some other stuff. But after a year, DC/Warner Bros wasn’t satisfied with what they were doing so they sold the rights back to Kenner and that’s when Kenner released their Dark Knight Collection which featured all the multi-colored Batman figures, Batmobile with canopy, Batwing, etc. These Mezco figures are based on those first Toybiz figures, not the Kenner ones. I use the word “based” loosely, as it’s just the packaging that’s similar.
but why they make the new ones such a tiny?? its so frustrating, they make them smaller and so shitty, just do the same sice man!! jesus.... fucking XXI century, people want the BIG not small

This Batman figure looks more Keaton than the Mcfarlane in my opinion.
Better than McFarlane, sure
Kenner offered a "shields" cover for their Batmobile as a mailaway offer back in the day. It was very flimsy, but they did it.

I actually think the Keaton head sculpt looks fantastic, they did an excellent job capturing his likeness in such a small scale
Which sculpt looks better - this or the recent Batman Returns one by Spin Master?
@@RetroToyEscapades this is miles better than the spin master Keaton returns figure
Not a Keaton likeness?!? It's a great likeness, what are you talking about?
Wow i had these as a kid! But dont think ill pay Mezco prices. I just realized they never made a Kim Basinger figure for the Batmobile
They sure didn’t!

In the 5 Points Batman '66 set they have silicone capes and they'll probably do that here. Looks like the plastic capes but is very soft & pliable
Wow, these are cool! The Batmobile at least is worth the asking price imho. Well, have to see how much my hobby toy store is bringing in this for in Singapore.

I thought spin master made a walmart exclusive version and also an RC version. Too bad they're not available in Malaysia.
The Flash Movie Walmart Exclusive 89 Batmobile is one of the worst, most overpriced version ever put out

Indeed, belt should match the symbol color. Tired of companies getting this wrong, but it keeps happening.
The Hot Toys 89 Batmobile also came with the armor.
Larger, modern scale and for the super-premium adult collectors market

Where do I sign up to get these?
Go to Mezco’s website!
$190 with fees and shipping to uk . I will pass , still a nice set though
Shipping over here to Malaysia will be no less brutal!
They should do a TMNT 1990 movie set
Whoa?
The batmobile is tempting. Anyone know if Mez has the rights to do Kenner's line too? The Dark Knight Collection was far superior.
Mez is not doing a ToyBiz line. Only taking inspiration from the packaging.

3.75" - 4" is a very common size and affordable. 1/12 would be nice but significantly more expensive unless you want McFarlane quality.
