I was born in 1960 and I am just discovering this magnificent music. I only knew "Spoon" from German TV, but never imagined they would be so raw and energetic on stage.
I made this as an answer to an existing comment, but since I come here so often, as this is probably the music video I saw the most on RUclips in my life... why not share it here as well? The Beat Club version doesn't live up to the song... this version, with Holger's intro, the wailing guitars of Karoli and the rhythmic vocalizations of Damo when the song transitions actually puts this version together with the album one for me... they way they just push back from the double tempo and lower the volume at the same time still haunt me, the same with how they get that 12/8 ballad thing going to double tempo again, it's so out of nowhere... what a band!
RIP Holger. Always amused by how little the audience seems into it, though I guess if they were performing in the US in 1970 the reaction might well be the same.

If I'm not mistaken, this performance is a part of the Can documentary DVD. One disc is dedicated to live performance, while the other disc is about the musicians.
It is the same gig and audience. It represents a pivotal moment in music and it is well worth seeking out the complete performances. This is the tune that first turned me on to Can and so I like hearing the different versions on yt.
CAN - Soest, 1970, Winter Mixed Media Show ... RUclips, thats the full concert, .. Brian Jones, no, died july 1969 or try it with .... Can live | Rockpalast | 1970
This is one of the greatest songs (and albums) in rock history.
Damo, your spirit lives on.
Jaki liebezeit one of the great drummer of the universo. Rest in peace

But then.......they all are....
First time in 1973 didn't sound as good as now.....😊
I saw them at an all nighter in 73, here in the UK.
Bezvremenski, nadrealno moćni CAN! Apsolutni klasik i jedan od najvećih bendova 70-ih. 1:30 Poruka za mnoge tada!!!!!!!!!
Unfassbar schön.
This is the best German Band
RIP great

Crazy to think this was only 25 years after the end of WW2!
Great, just great! I m so happy to found this tune! Thanks for uploading!!!
This is where trance music came from.

Drugs
Im hoping most of these people are on some type of hallucinogen while watching this madness and mastery
really amazing version of this tune. wish damo's vocals were a little more audible
they aren't supposed to be, brother
вот тебе и капустный рок... это лучшее что произошло в Германии
для вас, повторяю : для вас
Legends!
Far groovier and heavier than the color Beat Club version and closer to the album track by comparison.

RIP Jaki

Its not from the dvd, its a concert 1970 in soest, you can watch the full concert here on youtube
1970 - Vietnam war was far from over...
That's quite the "church organ" sound Irmin gets starting around 7 minutes. Not quite what most people got out of Farfisas.
Tim Gueguen Irmin used Schaller Rotorsounds during this period for phasing effects. That may help?
This looks like the gig Kraftwerk was at too. Some people in the audience are the same!
Millenium Yeah, it looks like they both were part of some event call Rockpalast back in 1970, I think.

Sin putas palabras
This is where red hot chillie peppers come from.
Exactly. Bad music came from here😂
RIP damo
Note to self 1:50 (can see what karoli playing)
All those people having no clue that they are witnessing the epitome of cool
On the other side of the screen, Kraftwerk was playing that evening.
why did damo leave 😭😭😭
One of the few listenable Can bits I’ve found so far.
What does the screen say? 700 million something?
Hehe... Irmin Schmitt is always aware of every part and what comes next....
The Farfisa organ alludes to Floydian dialogue.
1970 😳😳😳😳
Brian Jones @ 5.43?
Nope. This was in 1970; he died in 1969.
Holger rules
Marquee or the 100 club? Was that Brian Jones in the audience on Jews harp?

Just one generation before this in Germany, 6,000,000 jews harps were destroyed...
Do you feel the LSD dripping off the wall?
