Two things I wanna tell you, Jeff! Back in the day, when Buck knives were still made by the guy they're named for, the phenolic for the handles was melted down from scraps of old bowling balls.
And two, when I was in middle school I bought a backpack at Goodwill for three bucks. I came to find on the way home there was $150 tucked inside the front pocket. Helped us pay the bills that month ;) Have a good one!

we had a local bowling alley burn down last year, I never went in there. my old high school had a 2 lane bowling alley with manual pin setting. that is so uncanny that you found an identical ball to the custom drilled one that you ordered plus that pair of shoes in your size!!! what a score !!!!!

AMazing. Not only do I collect knives, and I have several guns, I also started bowling early. I was on a teen league until I was 18, I got back into bowling a few years ago on a league until they closed the bowling ally. I'm now disabled and can't bowl, it kills my feet! (Fibromyalgia). I also have been "rocking" the bald head for the last two decades. I guess that's why your videos resonate so much with me, we seem to have a lot in common..

I worked at 2 bowling alleys at the same time for a few years. I got pretty good just messing around on the clock when the machanic wanted a lane tested after repairs. fun times! I also had access to a bunch of free balls that were high end and just needed to be resurfaced and redrilled. I never heard anything about minimum weights in leagues. I always threw a 12 lb with a 2 finger grip and put a lot of spin on it, but also learned the normal fingertip grip for more accurate shots. whenever I play I always just mess around and to trick shots like under the legs and spin it and still get strikes pretty easily. I think my best score is probably 220 or 230 and I think it was even with a house ball. too long since it happened for me to remember but If I'm actually trying to play I can average 180 I would say

There are tons of private clubs in PA that have 4-8 bowling lanes and they all allow smoking because they're private and not open to the public. I'm sure you can get a few people to vouch for you to be a member and it'll only be like $20 a year for dues, depending on the club of course.

One time me, my girlfriend and our daughter were planning to go ice skating last minute when the Red Wings were moving to the new arena, they had a fan day at their old arena and everyone could skate on the ice one last time. I already had a pair but my girlfriend and daughter did not...so for shits we went to a salvation army and there were a brand new perfect pair of training skates for my daughter and another pair of womens skates, both in their exact sizes. By the way those were the only skates in the place.

I bowled a 279 in league once. Same thing happened after about 6 in a row everyone was watching me. 8 in a row. Then a solid 10 pin in the 9th. Picked it up and threw 3 more strikes. I don't know if I'll ever come close to that again. Funny thing was I did it with a house ball. It was an rc5 from the '70s. It had the fingertip grip and it fit like it was drilled for me. I should have taken it home.

Oh cool! I have been bowling for a while and im excited to see some bowling videos on the channel! And i feel you on that ball split, i ruined my DV8 Thug by storing it the wrong way.. The bridge split first and i didnt think too much about it being very thin about a quarter inch or so, then some time later the ball split from the bridge to my thumb hole and i was pissed. Now i have Radical Xeno and that damn thing hooks hard even on heavy oil. I need to look into getting a spare ball because trying to get that 10 pin is borderline impossible with the amount of hook i have and trying to do reverse hook consistently without hurting myself is just out of my skillrange for now. but i average about 180, not great but not bad either! When im having a good game i can go to 240+

I got into bowling heavily 2 years ago but sadly I don't have time to go anymore but I miss it so much. I went at least once a weeks sometimes 3. I got pretty decent but it was mostly about trying new techniques for me and building skill. I got a $300 reactive ball for $6 at a thrift store. It was all beat up but I had it refinished and polished and redrilled for my measurements and it's never let me down since. I highly recommend shopping at a thrift store for a ball as fixing up an old one and getting it redrill will only run you about 40 bucks. Get the cheapest shoes you can, sure the high level pro shoes will slide better but your not a pro so your basic $40-$60 shoe is perfect and will last a long time. Besides if your bowling local alleys you don't want to ruin a $300 shoe by stepping in a beer spill or gum. stepping in anything will ruin the shoe so be careful where you walk and don't ever take them into a bathroom. You can get shoe covers that look like hair nets to protect your slide pads if you need to run to the bathroom real quick but just take them off if you have to and have some slip on shoes with you.
The playing games on your phone and watching it on tv is normal for all new bowlers. It's just that fun of a game and fun to learn. All my siblings, and friends who got into bowling around the same time I did we all started watching videos, playing video games, reading books, watched movies, and even rented bowling education videos from the library. We even started lawn bowling for a quick afternoon bowl when we didn't have time or money to go to the lanes. I miss it so much.

I was into bowling when I was younger, bowled in a couple money leagues per week, and was averaging right at 200. I had an accident at work where my right index finger was crushed and that ended my competitive bowling. My wife and I still go occasionally and enjoy it but like you there is no time for league play any more. Get some pointers from the pro shop, video yourself and Christina approaching and releasing the ball and compare to pro bowlers with similar body types to see where you may make adjustments for more consistency. Being consistent is key, and being careful not to stress your back or knees (my weak links, yours may vary) to avoid injuries. It is great fun!! Enjoy, and maybe sneak in a cigar to the manual reset lanes ;-) Still never bowled a 300 :-(

Starting in the early 60's my grandfather and grandmother on my mom's side owned a bowling alley near Warendale PA., and they had leagues they played in, and they also had kids leagues that I played in in the mid 70's(I was about 10 then), I was pretty fair I would say, it helped that my Grandpa was a darn good bowler and would give me lessons, can't for the life of me remember any scores or averages, of course that was 40+ years ago so you gotta cut me some slack LOL, I bet it's been 30+ years since I've even touched a bowling ball at this point, just has never been very popular out here in Idaho where I've lived since 1979 when the whole family moved out here, or maybe I just never found the interest in it again, anyhow have fun at it and take care.

Back in the mid-eighties, I used to bowl for fun and in a league (Ihad my own ball etc). I was at my local bowling alley one quiet day and bowled a 294. This was in the days of paper scorecards and there was no-one other than the manager there and he was out the back drilling a ball. Here's a little story: At the end of the year we'd have a final league tournament on trophy day. The winning team of that day's games would win a trophy and the trophies for the year would be handed out as well. Anyway, I was in my late teens and my mum was also in a league team. The night before I'd been out all night 'on the piss' (drinking) with friends and the tournament started at 8am and went for most of the day. My mother had to kick me out of bed and force me to go. I was still three parts pissed (drunk) when we arrived. The upshot was, I bowled better than I'd bowled all year and because of my handicap I scored way high. The rest of the team also had fairly good days as well. At the trophy presentation, we got a trophy for Last Place champions for the year, and the trophy for winning final tournament, the most prestigious match of the year! But geez I was crook later in the day. Thank you. You've inspired me to think about taking up bowling again. I'm in my mid-fifties now and reckon that'd be a bit of fun when I'm not working.

I used to be more into bowling. Not in a league or anything but just casually bowling with my friends a few times a month. The problem is that prices around here have gotten ridiculous, in my opinion. For the cost of two people renting shoes and bowling a couple of games those same, two people could catch a matinee (at least - maybe even an evening showing) of a movie and have a pretty good dinner. Kind of the same thing has happened with playing pool - if you can find a decent place to play. Both of these are fun past times but, unfortunately (at least in my area) things that used to be solidly in the realm and budget of the average working Joe (or Jane) haven gotten overly expensive.
As far as balls, when I was a kid (middle school) my mom got a ball custom drilled for her. It was a 12 pounder and by the time I was in high school it fit my hand pretty well. She also found a 16 pounder at a yard sale for me. To this day, I like a 16 pounder for a 'main' ball for power and a 12 pounder for a little more control. Unfortunately I don't know where either of those are, now.

If you went to a thrift store in San francisco it would have been $869 for authentic high quality marble bowling ball in a vintage designer bag with pro custom vegan leather shoes.
