I went through all kinds of terror at the hands of the Missouri Synod Lutheran church. I still have PTSD flashbacks whenever I see anyone with a priest collar.

I finally found a name and actual description to what I'm going through. I was adopted at age 5, but before than spent some time in foster care. My adoptive mother (whom I love dearly) put me through private school up until 8th grade and the school foundation was Catholic. They instilled so much fear in me about Hell and demons. I was even terrified to sing the Christmas songs because the sounded scary. I than gained an unhealthy fascination with demons and would watch horror movies about demonic possessions. I started to lash out and began to hate God. Even though I was afraid of hell, it didn't keep me from sinning because I was so young. Now I am an adult and have been trying for the last four years to get to know God and love Him, but all I feel hatred and it makes me hate myself because I wonder what is so wrong with me that I don't love God. I do believe He and Jesus exist, but at times I doubt. I just feel so trapped in my mind. I feel like I have to be perfect and careful about everything I do. I get so anxious about everyday things. Is this television show evil, should I were nothing but skirts. Should I even have a career because I'm a married woman with children. It's so hard to make decisions because I don't want to be out side of His will and bad things happen to my family. I'm so afraid that God will kill me and send me to hell because I'm too worldly. Some nights I wake up in the middle of the night afraid I am about to die. When my husband work on the weekends and I am alone, I can't sleep in complete darkness because I am afraid of demons. I look at other Christians and see them so happy in their walk with Christ and here I am afraid of God just killing me because I don't love Him and I'm worldly. I'm just so grateful to know I'm not alone.

Dr. Marlene Winell, Thank You! I'm in the process of deprogramming myself from GOD and realize that the Bible is a imaginative myth/story. I grateful for the bible and what it taught me. Now, I believe that I/we die and become dirt. "Everlasting life, Heaven and Hell, Praying", are for other people and not me! Time to move on... :-) Cheers, Steve.

ooh I need a cup of coffee and a cigarette before I sit down to watch this, just read an interview on this lady on alternet.org or something, and this is what I went through, it was amazing to see it described, I cant find her on Twitter or anything though. In fact I almost did not read the article because I felt guilty and did not want to read a whole load of religion hating stuff, I'm barely coping as it is. But its not about hating religion.

Perhaps it wasn't clear. This group is not just an anonymous online forum. It is a professionally-led group which has 2-hour conference call sessions monthly, 24 forums and 8 moderators, personal mentors, profiles and messaging like facebook, free books and articles, a gallery for sharing creative work, live chat, & a serious focus on recovery. The fee is a sliding scale with no one kept away due to lack of funds. The group members say they have found nothing like it and are very grateful.

So sad that mental child abuse with hell fire threats etc. is still legal for fundamentalist Evangelicals & other religions :(

I suffered RTS for the first few weeks after my mom died but after listening to Dr. michael W. Jones (a biblical linguistic for nearly 30 years) I feel awakening and more joyful knowing there is no post mortem punishment.

If people don't think is crucial and important for people to feel sane after being brash washed should do something else they think can be helpful to other humans

I never believed in hell till my mom passed on November 10, 2011 and that is when this eternal hell doctrine hitted me a few weeks afterward and believe me I wanted to kill myself. That was then I had to do some studies and watch many Universalist Christians videos. Then later on I realize that even the Universalist theology still didnt sound good so i moved on to Progressive Christian (inclusionist) and i feel a whole lots better about the souls of others going through spiritual growth.

We left the United Pentecostal Church after 30ish years in 2017... we haven't given up believing in God or His purpose for us, but we'll never darken the doorsteps of a church building again, I don't think.... I mean, that could change, but I’m sure not feeling it

God is not only a gift to us, but we are a gift to him as well and he is very delighted and happy he created all of us regardless of our belief. yeah we gonna face issues and atrocities in life but hey that is what life all about. it help us to learn and grow and move further. when we leave this world we are free.

And what a great gift! He creates sin, spews it onto man, sends himself to die then goes to Heaven and tells everyone on the damned planet "Love me or burn in Hell" Yeah that's some gift. You think he'll wrap that and put a cyanide bow on it?
