So I absolutely have to share this story. My first Conspiracy 2 draft today was more ridiculous than most Commander games. My starting hand consisted of 2 swamps, 3 islands, Burgeoning, and a 2/1 flyer. I reluctantly kept, wishing I had a forest. Turn 2 I got a forest and played my Burgeoning and played a bunch of lands. On turn 3 I drew Arcane Savant with 5 mana to play him. At the beginning of the game I had exiled Expropriate with him. I cast him, casting a copy of Expropriate with him. Naturally I chose to take an extra turn, the next two players did not want to lose a permanent and gave me an extra turn as well. The final player realized that he had no real benefit to deny me any extra turns at the cost of a permanent given that I was already taking 3 extra turns and decided to give me the 4th. I also made myself the monarch to get a bunch of extra cards with my extra turns. Before anyone else got to go again, I had already killed two of my opponents. I finally ended the tyranny of the single player game and let my only remaining opponent go again, with two counterspells in hand and the mana to cast both. I killed him the next turn. Meanwhile, the pod next to us just finished their mulligans and was on the first turn cycle. Best draft ever.
Just a tip for those of you who have not gotten around to drafting this set: 1. Being the monarch is really good. Always try to be the monarch. Card drawing is almost always good. The pros outweigh the cons. 2. White and black are the best colors if you want to be the monarch all the time. Draft cards that make you become the monarch and gives you benefits whenever you are the monarch. Palace Sentinels, Throne Warden and Thorn of the Black Rose are amazing and are all commons. 3. If you want to be the monarch all the time, complement all the cards you drafted that outright made you the monarch with flyers, so that when somebody takes the monarchy from you, you can just hit them and become the monarch again. Blue and white have the best flyers for that strategy. Vaporkin is a really good blue flyer at common that will cut your opponents down a lot faster than you would believe. 4. White and black also have the best removal. Draft plenty of removal to get rid of other people's flyers and tricky creatures. Murder and Death Wind are both at common in this set. Take them. They're so good. Also Kill Shot is pretty solid as well. Basically, I found that a winning strategy was drafting Esper flyers. I took this gameplan to the draft and won the entire thing.
I just got back from my first *Conspiracy* event, it was the most fun I've ever had at draft. I went with WB Monarch, built my board up slow, pulled a double *Regicide* targeting everything but Blue (which no one I played against was using) and a double *Noble Banneret* to pump my 3 *Palace Sentinels* and 2 *Sinuous Vermin*. Won the first round by building and smashing through, preceded to talk big and was tag teamed round 2 by my former ally! Serious *Game of Thrones* style shenanigans, awesome.
There are a few universal truths in multiplayer free-for-all draft, much like EDH: a strong early start makes you a target, ramp, card draw and color fixing (if you're in multicolor) are key, look for value cards that give you card advantage. For example, spot removal is often worse than mass removal.
always draft rare conspiracys, having your two drop out turn one without needing to fix your mana it very good, additionally i can recommand creatures with high toughness when they assign damage equal to there toughness (got Weight Advantage, Hymn of the Wilds and Emissary's Plot in my first 4 picks; the other was the red rare which doubls my damage)
how does priority work? someone plays something, and I want to respond; does it pass to the left and I need to wait until everyone passes, or can I react when I wish?
Already did my draft before watching this but glad to see that my deck actually had some good cards. My pod was a bit sloppy when it came to announcing everything and even conspiracy stuff but all over it was a fun time.
I just finished and won my pod. I was UR Spells. My deck had four kiln fiends, two Echoing Boons (each naming Kiln Field), and four Fleeting Distractions. I was literally playing with effectively a playset of Ancestral Recall. except better. I don't think anything in my life will equal that moment.
I played White/Green last night and it was amazing... Hym of the Wilds with the 2/2 Vote elemental thing and the 2/3 pay 1 tap a creature... had 5 of each and spammed them to the board. Was Great.
I drafted a black blue control deck because Harvester os Souls was my first pick and Serum Visions was my second. Each of the rares I saw were in my colors so I also picked up a foil Keeper of Keys and Sangromancer. Sangromancer is great as I picked up a few Unerves and Fleshbag Marauders, very senergistic.
If a creature has 2 separate instances of melee do they both trigger (is the bonus doubled). Wizards says that the trigger separately but I don't quite see how that works.
How much impact drafing multiple cards revealed of a color can have with the fact people can start cutting you out? How good the new mechanics seem? Can I go ham into a strategy around becoming and holding / taking back monarchy and expect it to work (just an exemple)? Is melee a viable aggro strategy? How good is the goad mechanic? There are a bunch of cards of higher rarity that scream build around. What do you think are the best combinations to play with Show and Tell, Bersek and those super powerful legacy staples if we get the luck to find them?
Does every pack come with a Conspiracy card? If so, let's say I pull a Sovereign's Realm, does that take up the mythic for the pack, or do you get a rare/mythic in each pack as well as a Conspiracy of any rarity?
i drafted hym of the wilds then 4 borderland explorer, and the consiracy where u pay a green to put a counter on the named creature, so turn 2 i had 8 power on board it was rediculous very fun set for drafts
I didn't hear you mention anything about playing 45 card decks, but I know that was definitely a thing in conspiracy 1 and I will honestly be terrified of milling out if I end up in blue in this set
I have two questions: How does the Conspiracies work when there are multiple conspiracies in your Command Zone? Do multiple conspiracies of the same card stack?
Regicide: Pack 1 I draft a Regicide, Jund colors are named. Pack 2 I draft ANOTHER Regicide. Am I required to name the previously picked colors BEFORE more colors are named? Am I required to list all named colors at any point other than casting the spell?
We are 6 players - Can you play this with 6 guys free for all? Or do i have to change some rules like on 'Emissary's Ploy' to make him choose from 1-5?
It's to a creature and yes red has the best wait for it spells in the format, a couple of my friends got the 5 drop to be 10/10s because they were the only people in red.
The release notes recommend that you simply reveal it as soon as you pick the card, and that you avoid passing packs before everybody has chosen their card for that round. There are no official rules/stack/priority when drafting, so just follow the "Don't be a jerk" rule.
Regicide takes into consideration all copies of Regicide you drafted. So if U/B/R was selected on the first one and U/B/G on the second, both copies would be able to kill a U/B/R/G creature.
Drafted with friends and P1P1 got sovereign realm. P1P2 was a horrible tearing of hearts with Marchesa the Queen vs Hymn of the Wilds. Took the hymn with the hopes of just doing 5 color value critters. Ended up losing to one of my friends preventing any monarch card draw with the Kami and Leovold. He decked himself, killed the Marcesa player and allowed the bant friend to win with the beast caller that made infinite token of de-combat spirit. It was an enjoyable time.
So before I buy a box for drafting with my friends, do the conspiracies replace cards of their rarity, or are they in the token slot, regardless of their rarity?
Opened a sovereign's realm pack one but ended up getting second, losing to a hundred handed one that had ghostly possession on it. Extremely fun draft tho
The exact same, if an effect says you become the monarch then that happens, the same goes for dealing damage. In commander once a card introduces the monarch then it is there for the rest of the game. General monarch rules are: no one starts as the monarch someones becomes the monarch when a card says it or when they hit the monarch.
You have to play with no lands, the card states you may not have any basic lands in your deck. So what makes it bad is you will only have 45 cards most likely by the end of the draft, so it's down side is you most play more or less everything you drafted. Although their is far worse things to have happen to you.
Drafted it on release and all can say is holy moly does monarchy make you target...if I didn't draft my 4 child of the nights and that white conspiracy that makes a creature indestructible for 1 it would of been game over man!
Yes, the limit of conspiracies that can be in the deck is 0. They do not go in your deck. There is no limit to the number of conspiracies you can put in the command zone at the start of the game.
Politics are part of multiplayer, so... not really like edh. It's not a 100 card deck, not a singleton deck, no commander, don't start with 40 life, not constructed, no commander damage, no banned list, and not color restricted. That's like saying an apple is just like an acorn mixed with blood.

CrystalblueMage Yes. The game rules treat 'being the monarch' as a state; the monarchy isn't actually a token. The printed 'token card' is just a reminder for players.
i built the monarchy deck and i was ALWAYS the monarch when i got back to my turn. It was fine but the deck that won it was a G/R creature deck and because i was the monarch i did get targeted a lot but i luckily wasn't the first to die but over all this format was really fun.
+Tyler Gehring my friends and I played with our draft decks afterwards and I ended up winning that game but yeah I literally got to the last card in my library before killing the last person.
First conspiracy draft: almost killed everyone out with horn of greed. No joke, end of game everyone had 2 card on thief library. Being the monarch killed you xD. Then I got a 12/12 pyretic hound :)
If you already have a solid understanding of how Magic is played you should be fine but i would definitely recommend a more traditional set to start drafting. While Conspiracy: Take the Crown looks very fun to draft it also looks very chaotic and confusing.
If a card is printed in a Modern legal set, then any versions of that card are playable in Modern (Assuming they are official). So yes, cards like Serum Visions, Beast Within and Inquisition are legal.
To clarify: Any cards printed in this set that were ALREADY Modern legal will be playable in Modern. However, cards that were not already legal in Modern ARE NOT. This means: No Berserk, no Show and Tell, none of the brand new cards. If it wasn't legal before, it isn't now either. All of the cards in the set are legal for Vintage, Legacy and Commander play however.
I wont compete in this set only because id rather by singles once they TANK, like IoK, SaT, etc. I like my standard and modern games :) Plus, i know there will be people that either dont know how to do this right and will fuck up noting down cards and such either accidently or purposefully, which already happens occasionally. Im good, ill sealed and draft Kaladesh but i hope you all have fun and kick ass :)
So I absolutely have to share this story.

gonna follow your strategy, but trying to play mardu. Gotta love Marchesa flavour.

my first draft in a nutshell:
pack 2 pick 1 -> ghostly prison
pack 2 pick 2 -> ghostly prison
fun times :D
Exactly the same for me, I played the first on turn 3 and the second on turn 4 and went on to win despite having no board till turn 9 XD
Yeah I was just like "oo! Garbage fire! oo! Garbage fire! oo! Garbage fire!"
looool :D
Conspiracy: Take the Crown Draft in a nutshell: ooo a piece of candy!
There are a few universal truths in multiplayer free-for-all draft, much like EDH: a strong early start makes you a target, ramp, card draw and color fixing (if you're in multicolor) are key, look for value cards that give you card advantage. being a youtuber I can appreciate how much hard work goes into a video! great job as always wedge!
I'd be interested to see a Queen Marchesa EDH/Commander deck tech.
Having a Conspiracy II draft coming up this weekend, I'm really happy for this draft guide :P
Thank you Wedge, this will be my first Draft ever hope to get some new goblins for my deck and provide chaos with red
can't wait to draft it on Sunday. thanks for the tips Wedge!
how does priority work? someone plays something, and I want to respond; does it pass to the left and I need to wait until everyone passes, or can I react when I wish?

last conspiracy had the open new packs in the draft cards. when that happened did the card shop typically for these?
Should I put more than 40 cards in my library? I could foresee mill due to a long game. Bout how many cards you suggest?
I would have loved to have heard your opinion on the Monarch mechanic.
The new Selvala is bonkers. After the draft I put her in an Omnath, Locus of Rage deck and used her with Malignus and then Genesis Wave for 17, GG.
Super excited to draft this later today
Does every pack come with a Conspiracy card? If so, let's say I pull a Sovereign's Realm, does that take up the mythic for the pack, or do you get a rare/mythic in each pack as well as a Conspiracy of any rarity?
On my way to my first draft. Wish me luck.
i drafted hym of the wilds then 4 borderland explorer, and the consiracy where u pay a green to put a counter on the named creature, so turn 2 i had 8 power on board it was rediculous very fun set for drafts
I have been sitting on a box of this for... 7 years. Tonight I'm finally going to crack it
I would love to play a cube that is made up of both Conspiracy sets! That would be one of the coolest draft experiences ever!
helpful but what are some good color combos in the set
Went Green White on Friday had huge fun late game.
I didn't hear you mention anything about playing 45 card decks, but I know that was definitely a thing in conspiracy 1 and I will honestly be terrified of milling out if I end up in blue in this set
I have two questions:
How does the Conspiracies work when there are multiple conspiracies in your Command Zone? Do multiple conspiracies of the same card stack?
What would be the best green based cards to play with older cards like sylvan advocate and grim??
Tiny Post-It notes work really good
Milling out turned out to be super relevant at our first tournament
drafted tonight built a red, black deck with a ton of removal and included gutterspine and charmbreaker devil fun times
Regicide: Pack 1 I draft a Regicide, Jund colors are named. Pack 2 I draft ANOTHER Regicide. Am I required to name the previously picked colors BEFORE more colors are named? Am I required to list all named colors at any point other than casting the spell?
so excited to draft tonight
Is it allowed to have multiple conspiracies in the command zone?
Wedge I bought a booster box of conspiracy on the day or release. and I won the first draft! the format is amazing.
Hey Wedge. Could my draft deck have more than one conspiracy active at time?
Will there be an archetype video?
Where did you get the doctor who deck box???
so I opened a few packs just cause and I got a show and tell and an inquisition of kozilek. such value
I built a conspiracy style cube with the first, and now with this second it'll only get better
If you draft a conspiracy card do you have to use it or can you choose not play with it?
Can u only have one conspiracy in the command zone ?
If I pull hymn of the wild and berserk, what should I pick?
Wait, never mind. I'm first picking this garbage fire. /s
Play Hymn and keep Berserk as a value card xD
Hey Wedge. I missed drafting Conspiracy the first time around. Is it a good time for a run of the mill EDH/Drafter?
Hey wedge!! What's your favourite mythic in the set... Mines defiantly the new marchesa.
We are 6 players - Can you play this with 6 guys free for all? Or do i have to change some rules like on 'Emissary's Ploy' to make him choose from 1-5?
drafted this last night, ended up in U/B. some the most fun I have had drafting.
Can you have two of the same conspiracy cards out at the same time?
Wedge! What are the dream color combos for the draft? I'm thinking white blue or red blue?
UW is crazy strong. Also, UG...also ridiculous.
+TheManaSource blue
+TheManaSource I played black, white, with a splash of blue, and I won my pod
+HyperBeast yea I just played one, and I had a blue black flyers deck.
played red black... won my draft. played green white.. sucked but table talked my way to a win
Hey Wedge, what are your top 10 conspiracy 2 cards that Deserve to be in a fun cube?
What will the price for draft be? Also do players still start with 20 life?
Starting life total is 20.
$15 - 20 depending on store id say.
quick question, does the count for cards like garbage fire begin when you draft it or just the actual draft round
Garbage Fire itself says "drafted this draft round". Can't say about the others but I hope it helped.
so expect 15 damage, at most, huh? if that's the case, why is it a common?
It's to a creature and yes red has the best wait for it spells in the format, a couple of my friends got the 5 drop to be 10/10s because they were the only people in red.
Your now my favorite RUclips now
What does one do with conspiracy after a wacky night of draft? How can you remake packs to even redraft it?
Allon Vorlete There's always Cube!
"draft face up" when do I reveal it? Do i wait for everyone to have their pick for that round and then show it prior to passing?
The release notes recommend that you simply reveal it as soon as you pick the card, and that you avoid passing packs before everybody has chosen their card for that round. There are no official rules/stack/priority when drafting, so just follow the "Don't be a jerk" rule.
Hey wedge! Quick question. If you draft 2 Regicide, and the cards are assigned different colours, do both copies get the ability to hit any colour?
Regicide takes into consideration all copies of Regicide you drafted. So if U/B/R was selected on the first one and U/B/G on the second, both copies would be able to kill a U/B/R/G creature.
Thanks for the info buddy.
Great job!
So before I buy a box for drafting with my friends, do the conspiracies replace cards of their rarity, or are they in the token slot, regardless of their rarity?
Conspiracies take up their own slot in a pack (Regardless of rarity).
Thanks so much for the info, gotta remember paper ;)
Should I draft this in a chaos draft?
Opened a sovereign's realm pack one but ended up getting second, losing to a hundred handed one that had ghostly possession on it. Extremely fun draft tho
how does being the monarch work both in the draft and im games of comander
The exact same, if an effect says you become the monarch then that happens, the same goes for dealing damage. In commander once a card introduces the monarch then it is there for the rest of the game.
General monarch rules are:
no one starts as the monarch
someones becomes the monarch when a card says it or when they hit the monarch.
thanks
It has to be combat damage.
How is the experience drafting for just two? I won't go into details but it is imposible for me to multi-player draft.
4 players + or you're missing out. You won't have much fun with just 2.
Is there a conspiracy card in every pack? And love your videos keep it up!
Woot! Thanks, Wedge!
if you have sovereign's realm, should you just play a deck with no lands?
You have to play with no lands, the card states you may not have any basic lands in your deck. So what makes it bad is you will only have 45 cards most likely by the end of the draft, so it's down side is you most play more or less everything you drafted. Although their is far worse things to have happen to you.
Tyler Gehring theres no dual lands in the set?
Not as far as we know.
Drafted it on release and all can say is holy moly does monarchy make you target...if I didn't draft my 4 child of the nights and that white conspiracy that makes a creature indestructible for 1 it would of been game over man!
I got Sovereign's Realm first pick third pack, and absolutely destroyed my pod. It's a must pick.
Conspiracy 2 draft checklist: [X] Sticky notes, [ ] Packs, [X] Silly Paper Crown
Any limits to the amounts of conspiracies there can be in the deck?
Nope. just need a 40 card deck size
what if you don't have enough cards? (aka sovereign's realm and 6 other conspiracies)
+Demonoid619 Then you take Sovereigns Realm out and you fill them with Basics.
Yes, the limit of conspiracies that can be in the deck is 0. They do not go in your deck.
There is no limit to the number of conspiracies you can put in the command zone at the start of the game.
You can have as many conspiracies as you want but be careful because hey do count towards your deck size.
Can there be multiple monarchs?
To the best of my knowledge, no
thanks
wedge you should play dredge
I drafted a B/U deck with weight advantage and summoner's bound. shit was insane
Wedge you are the best
YOU'RE THE BEST!
Is there a Conspiracy that lets me cast Pikachu?
I really want to build a conspiracy cube now...
Pulled a foil in of kozilek
what makes it like commander?
Multiplayer chaos. Politics. Few or no playsets of anything.
Politics are part of multiplayer, so... not really like edh. It's not a 100 card deck, not a singleton deck, no commander, don't start with 40 life, not constructed, no commander damage, no banned list, and not color restricted.
That's like saying an apple is just like an acorn mixed with blood.
Acorn and apples both come from trees. And some apple are red like blood.
The multiplayer is the key thing, here.
It's not really important that we all agree on this in any case, because the format is what it is. You can describe it however you want. This way was useful to some people.
+Lance Groeneveld so some people know that edh is multiplayer, but don't understand the term "multiplayer?
Wedge, is monarch going to be a thing in legacy?
It can be in legacy if a card that creates the monarch is used.
+TheManaSource awesome. Thank you for getting back to me.
What if noone has the Monarch Token?
Then no one is the Monarch.
I meant in their booster packs. Can people be the Monarch if a card says so, if noone brought the token?
CrystalblueMage Yes. The game rules treat 'being the monarch' as a state; the monarchy isn't actually a token. The printed 'token card' is just a reminder for players.
i built the monarchy deck and i was ALWAYS the monarch when i got back to my turn. It was fine but the deck that won it was a G/R creature deck and because i was the monarch i did get targeted a lot but i luckily wasn't the first to die but over all this format was really fun.
Funny enough i lost a game because of that reason I was the monarch so long I decked myself lol.
+Tyler Gehring my friends and I played with our draft decks afterwards and I ended up winning that game but yeah I literally got to the last card in my library before killing the last person.
+mikhael hall I played the Monarch deck, too. No one tried to attack me due to all the Thorn of the Black Rose I drafted.
Man I want to draft this soo bad but work tho...
If you have multiple hidden agendas, are you allowed to look at them?
So basically, EVERYTHING IS AWESOME, CONSPIRACY IS AWESOME, HAVE FUN?
Sounds about right.
how many conspiracies can I have in my comand zone?
+Arghore thanks
+Arghore thanks
First conspiracy draft: almost killed everyone out with horn of greed. No joke, end of game everyone had 2 card on thief library. Being the monarch killed you xD. Then I got a 12/12 pyretic hound :)
I'm a noob. What is conspiracy? How do you play conspiracy? Is it like playing commander?
glen2003 it's a draft set
If I have never drafted before, should this be my first draft?
If you already have a solid understanding of how Magic is played you should be fine but i would definitely recommend a more traditional set to start drafting. While Conspiracy: Take the Crown looks very fun to draft it also looks very chaotic and confusing.
Welp, I'm being that idiot and draft it first timer. My tables gonna hate me, oh well!
I would so draft this, but I would rather do it with my friends. Shame I don't have any :|But awesome video as always! :D
are reprints modern legal?
If a card is printed in a Modern legal set, then any versions of that card are playable in Modern (Assuming they are official). So yes, cards like Serum Visions, Beast Within and Inquisition are legal.
To clarify:
Any cards printed in this set that were ALREADY Modern legal will be playable in Modern.
However, cards that were not already legal in Modern ARE NOT. This means: No Berserk, no Show and Tell, none of the brand new cards. If it wasn't legal before, it isn't now either.
All of the cards in the set are legal for Vintage, Legacy and Commander play however.
thank you need draft advice i'm knew
I hope they keep making conspiracy
I wont compete in this set only because id rather by singles once they TANK, like IoK, SaT, etc. I like my standard and modern games :) Plus, i know there will be people that either dont know how to do this right and will fuck up noting down cards and such either accidently or purposefully, which already happens occasionally. Im good, ill sealed and draft Kaladesh but i hope you all have fun and kick ass :)
