Finally! I wish you the best! The things haven't been the best for you and all Australians, but I hope that everything settles and you can recover the time.I have a Parker 45 Fighter (inox) and it's my favorite pen!
Welcome back. Are you making the pens on Etsy? The PenBBS 308 nib appears to be an F, I see a script F on nib below the 2005. The EF nib has an E there & is not in many pens. Looking forward to more JPL in 2020.
Many thanks chris. Been watching your pen videos this whole time to see what the chinese market is making and I am super impressed and cant wait to get my hands on them, especially the vacuumantic pens coming from china. And good catch on that one there chris, ill make sure to edit that, no clue how I could have not noticed that. And yes I do make these pens and sell them on etsy.
Good to see you back! You guys have had the worst stuff happening there with the fires, and now heavy rains. Ive always wondered about the Kakuno pen! Its so cute! See ya around here again soon, we hope! Take care!
Great to see you back. I can only agree about the Parker 45. I have four; they all write beautifully. Sentimental favourites, really. I have a dark blue, a burgundy, an orange and a stainless steel. But two of my quartet always seem to dry out if left unused for less than a week. And the converters are lousy. I use the 45s quite regularly. Classic, reliable and delightfully smooth. I have several Penbbs pens, and three 308s. Reminiscent of the Sailor 1911 pens - which I also have and love. The 308 is inexpensive but of high build quality and very good value for the price. Stylish, dependable and very eyedropper-friendly. The only complaint I have about the 308 is that the nibs, as your rightly said, seem rather too stiff. And while they are fairly smooth, never hard start or give me any trouble but the nibs seem to be very slightly scratchy and too dry for my tastes. It detracts from the writing experience. Penbbs make cool pens. But I’m finding their nibs uniformly lackluster and disappointing.
Welcome back! It’s nice to take a step back and just enjoy something simply for the sake of enjoying it. Easy to get caught up in the whole lovely mess of it all. I’d really like to try that Pilot Kakuno, I’m always looking for a reliable, workhorse, and affordable pen to travel with and share with friends, or students. You talk it up so well! I’m sold, haha. PS Your handwriting is beautiful as ever, nothing lost there!

Any comments on MB's flex nib for calligraphy, say on its 146 Solitaire Gold Leaf or the 149 Calligraphy Flex Nib? Thanks for sharing your fountain pen experiences!
thankyou, not sure about Mb flex nib for calligraphy, i'd trust them to make a good nib but at the end of the day a noodlers ahab for $20 is my go to flex nib.
@@jpl2475 Your go to flex nib at $20 is a practical option. Although I just picked up an MB gold leaf 146 with flex nib, it's more for home and special occasion use - otherwise the risk/benefit is questionable. Looking forward to more of your videos as there seems to be a pen for every occasion. Thanks!
I think as far as starting pens go, the Eco stands in a league of its own. Ginormous ink capacity, dependable nibs available from EF all the way to stub, and TWSBI's customer service is very good. Kakunos are amazing. I personally think a Kakuno with a Con-70 can cheaper alternative to an Eco as well...it has nice weight and has ink capacity very close to a piston filler. The grip isn't for everybody though. I'd also add in Wing Sung 698 as a very good affordable starter pen. Easy to disassemble and maintain, piston filler and uses nibs/feeds made on retired Pilot tooling.
Hi JPL, can you please review the Sigaro? The body of the pen is beautiful, but the nib is important.... What’s the nib made of? How does it feel? How do the Line weights compare to european vs Japanese? Wet or dry writer? Would LOVE to see the pen in action!
Thanks, I really dont know how I feel about that to be how, you know reviewing something that I have made. I think it might be best for me to reach out to a more unbiased reviewer, I am not sure.If you guys are okay with me reviewing something of mine I would absolutely review it.
Glad you're back. 20+ dollars for Kakuno? I paid 3,5 euro for mine and it was international standard compatible. Because of that i bought two even though i don't need the second one.
@@jpl2475 I guess Pilot makes them for European market, because Plumix with "Italic Medium" nib that i bought at a local book store is international standard compatible too. It is very convenient because even though neither came with converter, i can use Jinhao ones that i have in abundance. I also heard that MR2 is an international standard version of Metropolitan. Don't have one myself though.
Yeah i saw it on Chrisrap52 channel. I might take a look at it one day. I am not entirely convinced by the filling mechanism, it looks like a gimmick, but i really would like to get my hands on it.

I have noticed that too, the delike pens I have seem to have that style too. The noodlers ink is pretty water resistant, for $12 it is great. Teoh Yi Chie did a video on how waterproof it is.
Not sure about smoothest, i think the varies by the ink type, but for an ink that is very common and pretty affordable, I have very few complaints. The red isnt so great but apart from that they are decent inks.
A little story I wanted to share. I’m leaving the pen community. I used to always buy pens and watch pen videos all the time. Here’s why I left. I bring my some of my pens to school in a small compact pencil case. It came in super handy when taking notes and you know, school stuff. I was talking with a friend group and I went to the bathroom during lunchtime and went to class.WITHOUT THE PENCIL CASE. According to my friends, a kid (one my classmates in my 1st period theatre class) said, “Oh yeah! I know who that pencil belongs to. It belongs to a n d y.” So my friends simply just trusted him because he was friends with one of the kids in my friend group. He took it and never gave it to me. I went to the spot where he usually hangs out and asked him, “Hey, I heard you got my pencil case. Can I please take it off your hands?” Then this dude says, “No I don’t have it. A kid in 5th period band had it.” I still don’t trust him after he said that. I’ve only talked to my friends about it briefly but NEVER to teachers. I’m keeping this discreet so the culprit doesn’t figure it out. Also, I probably had 250$-300$ worth of pens in that case. Also, I know your reading this JOHN. So... yeah. That’s how a kid stole all my pens. Ask whatever you want in the comments. Edit: Also, YAY!! You’re back!
Paul Wanstall I’ll try to at least. The stress I got from losing the pens and the thought of it happening again really got to me though. And yeah, I do use cheaper ones at school but only 2. I bring them with me everywhere but never take them out unless needed.
Briar Bear Hello Briar. I know it does sound stupid (and tbh it probably is), the few hundreds I saved up took me months to gather up. I’m talking 6 months+. The other reason I’m so scared to join the fountain pen community again is because I don’t want this situation to happen to me again and also because I can’t bring myself to watch any fountain pen videos due to the guilt.
ShutUpAndy I was harsh. I’m sorry. I would probably have felt the same way you did for a short period. But, then I would buy my next pen and look forward.
