Simply because I used to do a lot of airsoft LARPs in my youth and these games remind the most of the days of free for all in Milovice, Czech Republic (a garrison city where USSR soldiers were stationed, left hastily after the Velvet Revolution and the government never kept the place up, so it was like a post-apo place where we pretended to be in STALKER, Fallout: Prague or IDK burned CIA agents and PMCs in Chechnya, that way we could just have random flannel hand-me-down from grandpa and generally mismatched gear in general instead of buying more expensive fatigues and matching M4s without ruining "the immersion"). We did FFA when not many guys came around and there was not enough to form teams (usually in fall or spring, sometimes we'd meet up in winter but rarely stayed for long). You'd stalk the area looking for someone to kill, someone who is also looking to kill you. You'd spend hours just going around slowly. You'd clear building by building. Meet occasional hobo or a person walking their dog. Sleep in derelict old buildings with extreme light discipline since police did roam the area at night and would kick you out (they did not care during the day because a lot of people did go there but a place like that at night was a hotspot for general criminal activity that may rhyme with grape, herder or mug seal, none of which I really knew about at the time so I was not really that afraid of that, being brought home by cops for vagrancy was more of a palpable fear to me).
Those are my fondest teen memories and only really Tarkov has been able to recreate them for me so far (on maps like Woods/Shoreline that is). If I never grabbed that 50% off M16 (weird that there is not one in Tarkov, given how many were made) I'd probably be just fine with Battlefield.

i think what i love most about extraction shooters is the thrill of risking everything you've worked so hard for in one raid its not just dying and coming back to life, no one death could
completely alter the way your next raid goes im addicted to the gamble you take with each raid its a grind to actually get ahead so the reward feels so much better yeah the lows are low but that makes the highs so much better its really a indescribable feeling you get from game so excited to see more in the future

As an older player who can’t rely as much on my reflexes as I used to, I like extraction shooters, as you can win by strategizing and coordinating with your team. You can win by being cunning. You can set the premise of your own success. These games also allow you to have a purpose; it’s not all about killing the enemy. You get missions, a narrative frame that is a constant driving force and motivator that hooks in with the mechanics and the progression. This makes me feel more immersed than something like BF or CoD can ever hope to do.
And, of course, that heart-pounding tension you get when you have choice loot in your backpack, and you’re all shot up and hunted while you make your way toward the extraction is hard to beat!

I mostly played solo on my first few wipes. But then I met people and found friends new to the game that wanted to roll together. Its been great, helping them out with the things I'd learned, being shown things I didn't and getting up to shenanigans with the bois. Those high stakes moment building bonds in victory or overcoming a loss streak while supporting each other (with the occational team kill or heated moment) made extraction shooters one of my favorite genres. And adrenalin, I like it.

There's such a big learning curve too which makes it really fun for people who want to get better. All the little tricks that you can learn and will help in your raids. I'm glad that there are more games coming out because everybody is different and each game adds a little bit of their own spin on it.

The reason why i the extraction shooter genre is because it actually matters what you do and the effects your actions have.
Most shooters give you the option to heal to 100% health even tho you've been shoot a million times. Run and gun all around the place without any consequences.
With these types of games it actually matters what you do to the enemy and what the enemy does to you.
So it brings a more tensive sense of gameplay and it feels more rewarding when you win an engagement.

I enjoy extraction shooters, especially EFT because they offer an unparalleled intensity and realism that pulls me deep into the experience. The reason Tarkov stands out for me is its meticulous attention to detail in every aspect-be it the authentic sound effects, the hyper-realistic gun mechanics, or the brutally punishing health system. Every time I boot up the game, it feels less like playing and more like stepping into a perilous, meticulously crafted world where every decision counts.
I relish the thrill of navigating Tarkov’s harsh, unforgiving environments. The game demands not just quick reflexes but also strategic planning and foresight. Deciding what gear to bring, which routes to take, and how to engage enemies requires a level of thoughtfulness that’s both challenging and rewarding. The risk of losing everything adds a layer of tension that’s rare in other titles, making each successful extraction incredibly satisfying.
Moreover, I love the depth of the loot system and the trading mechanics in Tarkov. The excitement of finding rare gear on a raid and the complexities of managing my inventory provide a persistent sense of progression and personal stakes. Every piece of equipment feels valuable, and choosing what to keep, sell, or use in the next raid involves engaging trade-offs that keep the game fresh and engaging.
Ultimately, it’s the stories that emerge from each raid that I find most compelling. Whether it's a close escape after a fierce firefight, a stealthy, high-tension loot run, or just the camaraderie of teaming up with friends, every session writes its own narrative. Escape from Tarkov isn’t just a game it’s an ongoing adventure where each raid can turn into a memorable story of survival and strategy. This dynamic and immersive experience is why I keep coming back to the harsh yet fascinating world of Tarkov.
Yet I am deeply disappointed with the direction Nikita chose to go and I’d like to try out arena breakout infinite 😁.

For me honestly what I love about extraction games is well 1 the the maps you roam around the techniques you need to survive and to stay in cover to get to resources to loot 2 is I love how every decision can be life or death like wether you want more food water ammo or another gun or throw something out for more space 3 is when you try to get out or get in a gun fight when everything is on the line or it’s 0 vs everything you have nothing to lose and them everything the adrenaline you feel is amazing and when everything is said and done and you escape is pure bliss and lastly when it gets quiet and no one is around that you know of how beautiful and surreal the game becomes and feels and no matter where you are or how geared you become at any moment everything can be taken away and you never know when you’re safe

For me , the first extraction shooter I played was Vigor on Xbox 1 and that became one of my most played games on Xbox as it was such a thrill to play through the raids as it felt much better surviving a raid in extraction shooters than winning a battle royale game or something similar, even if the amount of things you were able to accomplish was minimal. I then experienced Tarkov through RUclipsrs like you, SwampfoxTV and Welyn. The game was so amazing to me as there were so many weapons with so much customisation and not to mention how each raid would be completely different from the last, with there being no required way to go through the raids and extract. Overall, the main reason I have been attached to extraction shooters has been due to the sheer uniqueness that these games being every time you play them.

Adrenaline, adrenaline is why i love extraction shooters. The rush can be so overwhelming that it can leave you shaking and at a loss for words as to how you survived a fight. This is only true because in these games your gear, decisions and ultimately your life carry so much value as you know that so much of your time, thought and efforts have gone into inquiring them. And that fear of loosing it all is what makes it all the more euforic when you slay an opponent on the battlefield and are treated to the literal spoils of their labor. Teetering on that fine edge of keeping ahold of what you worked oh so hard for and robbing others of their spoils....is the true essence of extraction shooters. Thank You

I like extraction shooters because they're the adrenaline junkie's equivalent of a roller coaster ride through a war zone! its the rush of coordinating with your teammates, the heart-pounding moments of narrowly escaping enemy fire, and the satisfaction of pulling off a perfectly executed plan. Its a wild ride that keeps you coming back for more, after heart-pounding missions. Combining that with an apocalypse world, and you will never see a boring weekend again.

i enjoy extraction shooters because, honestly, they helped me through a really hard time of my life and give me a feeling really no other game gives me. tarkov is most of my experience but a lot of this goes for hunt showdown and marauders as well, i love the tension of the games, like it takes effort to make me genuinely scared of death in videogames. i also love the health system for tarkov especially. and how i love how i have memories from pretty much every map in tarkov. they hold a special place in my heart. im a massive gun nut so that helps too.

I love extraction shooters because they are more immersive and you get more emotionally involved in the game. When you have everything on the line (tasks, loot item you’ve needed for days) every second seems like a minute. You have to really rely on your skills and experience to make it safely out. Do you sneak and take your time? Or do you trust your skills and shoot your way out? Getting it all out feels so rewarding and gives you that adrenaline high. Dying before getting out can get you sssooo emotional. I love the ups and downs, the feeling of accomplishment, or just trying to improve my skills and get out of a death loop.
    Thanks for all the content!

I would say the story of why I love Extraction Shooter began with the old Dayz mod and then Playerunknown's Battleroyal mod for Arma 3. I was very enthusiastic about both. This permanent loop of looting and gunfights was quite entertaining and varied. At that time I was still playing Contract Wars with a friend and when I heard that the former developer of this game was working on something new that would be in the direction of a looter shooter, I was of course immediately there. I've been playing Tarkov for quite a long time and I'm even sadder that it's dying. I would therefore be very happy about a key and thank you for your first impression.
I think extraction shooters are so popular because they offer a lot of variety, similar to a battle royale game, but unlike its big brother, they offer permanent progression similar to a role-playing game.
As many people here note, the adrenaline rush is also part of it, but in competitive shooters like CS you get it too, at least if you clutch 1v5 it comes close. I just think it's a combination of the above and the rush.

I just recently got my PC back in late June and since then, I haven't been able to get my hands on one. But there's just something about the realism, the realization that you could lose everything with a stray bullet, and the adrenaline rushing through your veins. The realism gets me every time, especially with this game, I was stunned at how this looked, and it definitely gave off a COD feel with the UI. The movement and animations are smooth as well, they look very meaningful and robust. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to experience this game, it looks amazing!

Extraction shooters provide a good variety within themselves. I started with Tarkov and loved the realism and the grit of it all, but what hooked me was the unique way matches play out in the extraction genre. Once you get to a certain level in those games, you can recognize possible pvp spawns, the direction players are going to go, what their objectives may be. Hunt Showdown is one of my favorite games, and after hundreds of hours in it I have an almost otherworldy sense for danger and how the game works. Going from terrified to set foot outside of spawn to wiping lobbies because of your superior knowledge and game sense is one of those things you don't get too often in other games. You really have to work for it and I love that. Loot is nice but what really makes extraction shooters pop is the never ending variability they usually bring to the table. You never have the same gunfight twice, even in the same locations. It always feels so fresh.

As someone who enjoys tactical experiences in games, not just referring to slow clunky gun play where the gun jams when you shoot more then 30 rounds or the hyper extreme realism that games look to try to replicate. I enjoy the tactics behind extraction shooters, hearing a shot like 300-400 meters away and determining if its a good fight and loot potential or a risk when your low on supplies and have good loot in your bag already, rack my brain in a way I enjoy it. Two games (while not being extraction shooters themselves) give this feeling to me, 1st being Hunt: Showdown, 2nd Ready or Not. Extraction shoots take the best of both of these, Hard tactics and planning before attempting even opening a door (from ready or not) and intense PVPVE gun fights that can both take forever and end very quickly along with the need to read not only the current area but the whole of the map (Hunt showdown), and mashes them into one genre that people can enjoy. While Extraction shooters have seen both success and failure it is still a budding and new genre that's evolving with each game that comes out for better or worse.

If you fail to strategize certain situations, you are guaranteed to not only die, but loose gear as a result. I like the idea that it strips you the ability to keep bringing in kits the more you mess up.

Even if I'm not good at the game, some of those moments I've had with my group where we come out on top, we catch people by surprise, and when we get out after somehow taking down some chads for gear far better than what we currently have just drives me to go for the next one, and the next one. Getting some sick kills in games like CoD can hits that dopamine sometimes, but it can't come close to pulling off a crazy long shot in Tarkov, or winning a fight you thought you couldn't and getting out with some poor souls hard earned gear. They just hit different.

The reason I like these kind of games it challenges me to think quickly and to act. It also makes me want to think how I wanna play the raid, if I wanna do a lot of fighting I bring heavier gear, if I wanna try and be sneaky I run light. There is always multiple ways to go into a raid and no wrong or right way to do it you can make any situtation better if you play your cards right. Yes it's annoying when you die and you have to build a new kit from scratch, but when you have those great fights where your adrenaline is pumping its a feeling like no other.

Reason why i enjoy extraction shooter is the adrenalin. Most of the times (From my experience) the gameplay CAN be boring... like boring in the way nothing interesting happens like you go in... extract and thats all... or just get one tapped but still enjoying that but sometimes when the moment happens like really intense moment like you get in raid/game and you get some really unique/rare items and then something bad happens like Players comes to you like if they knew that you got the rare item and just want to kill even tho they dont know but filling my mind with those thougs make me fight for it... it makes me really want to fight for it at any cost so i could survive and thanks to it i most of the time survive... or just survive really intense fight and badly damaged and barely without any heals/rations getting into extraction. Thats the adrenalin i LOVE in games mainly in extraction shooters

Instead of just running and gunning, you have to plan your moves, grab what you need, and then get out in one piece. The best part is the high stakes. I grew up on Cod, and Halo where people generally don't die very quickly. The thing I love about extraction shooters is the realism, the armor, the recoil, how quickly you kill someone. With no gear, you have a ton of opportunity to get a lucky kill, and with all the gear you can still die instantly. This changes up the playstyle so much compared to any other shooter type.
