maybe add white tot help blend. Gouache also has a ugly phase. Gouache also drys Matt but is vibratint. Make sure not to use the colors too vibratint. (I just hear it's a common mistake and I've made/make that mistake). It's either the paper or your not mixing enough paint. With layering make sure the under layer has less water in it then the layer you're about to put on. Most people start with thin layers and build up the thickness. Just tips I thought you can use. (Pleaseee don't take this the wrong way). Also about the mixing colors try making a color chart that helps.

Sis you are sooooooo pretty ✋✋✋✋✋✋✋✋✋✋✋😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔 also a couple of tips for using gouache:
    1. It’s easiest to work with when it has a milk like consistency
    2. Like oil paints if you wanna layer it’s good to keep the fat over lean rule in mind because otherwise if you already have a thick layer of paint in and you try to layer overtop of it it’s gonna disrupt the bottom layer
    3. If you want you could use other mediums along side like watercolor for basic thin washes of color or casein (which is similar to gouache but is harder to lift/easier to layer)
And finally I recommend watching videos on people who are amazing gouache users like James gurney and chris Hong art on RUclips!

the thing that really helped me when i was first starting with gouache was my dad (also an artist) who kept telling me that gouache is just like cheap poster paint mixed with white and even though it's not entirely true this helped me get more confident in painting with gouache the thing that also really helps is trying what effects can you archive with gouache and thinking what kind of effects do you want archive with guache (i'm not an expert or anything i just thought i share what i found helpful )
    btw. i loved ur video

I've got that exact palette too! When I opened mine, I had to go in and mix each little paint pot with a toothpick cause the paint had separated, and you'll probably find you'll need to mix it every now and again when you go to use it. Also make sure to spray it with water during and after use! I like to spray mine with water, cover it with clingfilm, then put the lid back on once I'm done:)

As far i understand between the difernce the guache and acrylic... the guache , when it's dry it gets more bright color than the acrylic, and the acrylic, when it's getting fry the color gets little bit darker. for my personal experience I prefer the acrylic paint, because it will get faster dry, and not very dry texture and so on. i dont like the guache texture when its dry...
    also amazing video as always

When you use 2 water cups 1st dip your paintbrush in the dirty water then use the clean, clear water. Do this every time you clean your brush. The purpose is to always have clear, clean water so you don't contaminate your color. NEVER let your brushes sit in water & try not to fill your water glasses higher than the ferrule (metal part) of your paintbrush. This helps preserve them.

I think you did fine! Just maybe use less water next time because they’re supposed to spread on kinda thick like acrylic. I mean you **CAN** use it as watercolor but it’s really meant to be it’s own in between thing. I use gouache and only use extra water if the paint stops spreading like I need it to. But you’ll find your own niche as you use it more 🙂

I loved your vlog style, but I prefer your original format for videos. They are easier to follow. Recently everyone is giving Gouache a go, which is fun. However I have seen 2 artists say that HIMI is not a great product. People seem to gravitate towards it because it is pretty and a good price. The problem is that this product is not light fast. Additionally Gouache is actually a specialised product. It is expensive because of its ingredients. So while HIMI might have advantages, I am not sure how transferable skills are to W&N. I would try W&N straight off the bat in order to get an idea of actual Gouache. I love the way you say that you asked your artist Gouache friend and then did something completely different 🙈. However I would love to see you be completely courageous and dive into the deep end with W&N. This is because 1. you actually bought it too 😂 and 2. I am curious what you actually think of Gouache used/recommended by a professional artist. I loved this video. It is great once in a while. It is refreshing.
