It's basically the transition from a hunter/gatherer to sedentism, like in the neolithic revolution. So it's literally a revolution if you have a constant food supply. Although there is a controvery in the science literature about the sustainability of the hunter/gatherer lifestyle. Hunter/Gatherers never had food shortages and the transition to an agrarian lifestyle had a high risk (taming animals, bad harvest due to low technology ect.). It is argued that humans made this transition because of the rise of the population (population pressure). First they mixed both economies (hunter/gatherer and agrarian economy) which led to higher population, and then they turned full sedentism and agrarian economy. The transition also marked a new period in which violence, hierarchy and wars happend the first time in history, before that there basically were no wars, violence or hierarchies. What's interesting is, that there have possibly been cases where people voluntarily swiched back to a hunter/gatherer lifestyle, but they eventually got killed by the people who lived an agrarian lifestyle already.
Violence, hierarchy and war happend the first time in history because of the agrarian economy?! Man, have you ever read anything at all about our primitive ancestors? Tribal wars where a thing since the start of life. Even monkey tribes have hierarchy and fight each other over territory, food and females. What the heck...
@@FR1S0N there certainly were no any big scale wars where thousands died. Big scale violent events like Yamnaya invasion of Europe, late bronze age collapse etc were practically non-existent in hunter-gatherer times. There were also no rare resources to fight over like tin, or copper. At most you'd fight with other little tribes when food was getting scarce, which would be rare events in temperate climates like Europe. Otherwise what are you going to fight over? Flint?
I think the prime purpose for making dehydrated meat (in bulk, at least) is the reduced weight/volume that makes it easier to carry around if you are planning to be away from transport/storage for a while.
in regards to the swamp water. I found that if you go to the crafting menu and look at recipes that need "water" or salt water" they will show as available, makes a way to check quickly for the availability of both. Really useful for Inna Woods style scenarios
Also if you can make a quern you can turn bones from meat hunting into bone meal for making wastebread, 10 portions and lasts 2 whole seasons, great for meat or veggie sandwiches
A tool with hammering quality of one and: > 1x heavy stick OR 1x two by four > 1x rock OR 1x ceramic shard OR 1x sharp rock > 2x small string OR 4x withered plant OR 4x pile of straw OR 40x thread OR 40x sinew OR 40x plant fiber OR 40x yarn
Forest spiders also have a single egg sac, IIRC. Also, if Triffids are still in the game (I never actually see them anymore), their plant flesh can be made into dehydrated veggies.
Request: Vorm, how about a gun mod tutorial I still only half understand +/- dispersion, +/- dispersion modifier, sight dispersion, recoil, and handling. Trying to work out best setups for a sniper rifle and an assault rifle.
Hi Carlos, thanks for the suggestion. I have considered such a video but gun combat at mid-long ranges is undergoing changes and is essentially broken currently. A super soldier with max skills, a tricked out sniper rifle, and perfect shooting conditions can't reliably hit things beyond 10 or 12 spaces right now. Feel free to create a test game and use the debug menu to give yourself skills and gear to see what i mean. Until the next big ranged combat revamp in the experimental branch i am going to hold off on trying to detail the gun mod system.
If you can't find any spider basement and aren't near ant nests is there a better option than hoping to run across large animals like moose and bear to harvest large quantities of meat?
Late, but you can dig up dahlias in fields/cattails in swamps, turn them into starch and then with a quern, turn them into flour. You will need fab 2, cooking 2 and survival 1 to craft the quern.
😨 don't sleep next to spider eggs in a warm room lol you've all seen them alien movies right 😅 (if not implemented should be lol (hatching eggs) PS brilliant video very well spoken and i learned from this a lot (im a beginner - amateur) level player.. very interesting game, depth level is unreal (but Very real) 😅 now i don't have to keep running into town for supplies i might be able to live off the land now 😂 (bet my next death is a toxic mushroom lol) (mushroom blanching implementation idea)
You are referring to the portable charcoal kiln which is created in the crafting menu, not the charcoal kiln from the construction menu that i actually demonstrate in this episode (hammer, shovel, 40 rocks). I dislike the crafted version due to its small volume limitations and VERY VERY bad interface to actually use.
Huh huh huh huh huh jerk your meat huh huh Hey, YT counts it as interaction with the video. I think some of these recipes and results have been tweaked. I'm pretty sure my dehydrated meat now has a shelf life, though protein powder does not. Just checked, yeah jerky is good for three weeks now too.

What the fuck are you talking about?

For often used actions like: make fire, lockpick door, repair armor etc. - you can use '%' button (and configure standard buttons for this menu).
Stone Axe is available early, depending on your starting survival and fabrication stats.

You can 'a'ctivate the Axe to chop down trees too intead of using the construction menu.
Good guides, thanks!
That's a fairly recent change made after the episode was created. Good info to have now though so thanks for pointing it out.
the smoking rack and kiln GOES HAND IN HAND with the camper start scenario with tennts in woods
Were pine nuts removed from the game? I can't find them anymore.
Yes they were removed.

Question, not related to preservation but just to food itself, How do I make Cooked Dandelion Greens? do I need to learn the recipe from a book?
I believe they just require Cooking (2) and Survival (2) to make and i don't remember a book being necessary.
freezing mechanics need work but we do have minifridge dehydrator and fridge and freezer
Most perma food now have a very long spoil time instead, so they are no longer immortal.

I'm just waiting the freezing mechanics to be polished out.
they already are
Great video
why you DIDENT MENTION FREEZING? food now freezes on its own in your inventory as of 10 9 2018

even better easier method is to use a dehydrator if u have batteries or freezer or dry it with salt
I dident ened to smoke or build anything I chose camper and got lot of tools and jusr raided kitchens for eggs crisps lol
Pity that the kiln now requires a soldering iron and a metal tank.
