Hi Jack, Today I bought the Jim Dandy Deltoluxe Concert model. The sound fit and finish is fantastic! Gretsch definitely upgraded these models. The neck on the concert is even more comfortable than my Gin Rickey and the tortishell binding is on both body and neck! I play them through a Fender Mustang LT 25 and loving both. If you can, try the concert model, I think you'll like it.
Nice review! The right balance of play and talk. Plus slide! Thanks for this. I have a couple parlor-sized Jim Dandy's and love them. Curious about this dreadnaught and the concert. Anyway, nicely done. I'm off to go watch more of your stuff.
Yeah, I have the concert model of this, with pick-up. I absolutely love it. It has been my go-to guitar since it arrived, and for less than $300, with tax, it was an awesome deal.
Very cool guitar for the price. It reminds me of my first guitar (an MIJ Aria), which I had for years. I noticed it doesn't have a volume control for the pickup. Would it be beneficial to add them like on a J-160E?
Man I want to buy one I have the concert Jim dandy and I love it but people are saying bridges are lifting. Is this a thing. Also you think maybe I can just soup up my dandy with a humbucker and a new reinforced bridge to run a thick electric strings ?
Hi Jack, I have the former Gin Ricky Parlor with the deltoluxe pickup. I hated the way it sounded plugged in with the acoustic strings that came with it, so I changed to a set of Dadario Chromes 10 gauge flatwounds. IMO the flatwounds smoothed out the sound with the pickup and allows me to do roots, folk, blues and some early style jazz and I think gives me some more bass thump. Now looking at the new JD concert and dreadnought models but can't make up my mind which to get. Thanks for the review/demo and channel.😎
@@badscrew4023maybe if you wanted to stop hum or change the gain sensitivity like on an electric… but none of those you would need on one of these surely? If you’re taking it gigging then you’ll be taking a tuner pedal with you to stamp on to stop any hum. You wouldn’t need to control the gain sensitivity or tone with the volume knob as it’s meant to be simple. It would ruin the simplicity of it if there was anything other than playing it to worry about
@@badscrew4023 nahhh come on mate, on stage and in the studio you’re mic’d up and have an engineer controlling your sound so a volume knob is unnecessary unless you’re trying to turn it off completely which a tuner pedal can do, which you will have with you in both scenarios. Plus if you’re the type to control your tone or sens with a volume knob, this is the wrong guitar to get as it won’t make much difference. It’s a simple pick up and play guitar with a simple pickup
Not exactly on topic but I was wondering if you think I would see a huge difference in tone between the recording king rattlesnake and one of their spider cone guitar? Thanks Jack!
Got the concert size of the same model and no feedback problems. That being said I play clean channel on a small amp. So I can’t speak for rock concert like situations.
My six acoustic guitars go from £400 to £3000 list price. The price has no bearing on how much fun I have playing them. If it has no annoying faults, this plywood box would be fine for me. If!
😂 I prefer the wording “dry” or “percussive” over “no soul”. Yeah it doesn’t provide that BB King solo sustain but fits better with older Country Blues. You’re not wrong about the tone but it’s a matter of taste rather than quality. It’s like saying humbuckers are better than single coils. Preferences
I loooove that electric tone, I love that it doesn't sound super thumpy/rubbery but like a mellowd out hollow body electric guitar
I just bought the Deltoluxe Concert and absolutely love it! Highly recommend.

Very cool electric tone.
It's plugged in to a very cool electric amp! Be interesting to hear it through an acoustic amp.
That slide playing is on point.
Absolutely amazing!
Fantastic review.
Down to earth playing helps a simpleton like me think "I bet I would sound good playing that, too."
Oh man! I don’t need another acoustic, but man, sure love the vibe. Maybe I do need another acoustic😂
me too
Of course you need another acoustic. What about open G tuning? What about Eb tuning? What about DADGAD?

Can confirm: I string mine with D'addario XLs (EXL115W with a wound G) and the plugged in tone is much better this way
@@badscrew4023 Thanks for the confirmation. I will try the EXL115W set on my new Jim Dandy Deltoluxe Concert model. 😊
could this be a Gibson J160e alternative???
Exactly what I'm wondering too. The J-160 is hard to get hold of (and expensive).
My JD parlor definitely scratches an itch my D-18 can’t reach. Can’t resist picking it up because it’s always out and staring at me. ✌️
One thing I wish they've added is a volume control
Why do you need a volume control?
@@SenfMustard isn’t it obvious?

@@SenfMustard I disagree - being able to control the volume is important on stage (or in the studio)

Cool😉👍
Looks smaller than a dreadnought. ..?
Price is right👍

I have a Deltoluxe pickup in my Guild F-20 parlor guitar, tuned to DADF#AD

When I play the acoustic I still enjoy it, but I feel that I'm playing more of a percussive instrument than when I play the electric

NATO wood. Now available in Finland
Life by the drop SRV towards the start of the outro? Sounded like it to me
NATO🤣
It has absolutely no soul, no bass, and no sustain...other than that it's great... LOL
