Thank you for the video. I read a lot of the comments here. I think what a lot of people are not understanding is this is a card geared towards traveling. The 4X points at restaurants and grocery stores. Are just a baseline value for those points. When I redeem through the travel portal I get closer to eight times of value . This is my Workhorse card. I won't say it's my biggest money saver because that title belongs to my Southwest card. You taught me something new today
It's also worth noting that if you work for a corporation (typically large ones) and have a corporate card. You can apply for the "Amex corporate advantage program" and receive a partial fee waiver every year you have the corporate card. It must be done at application, but I contacted them after I had my gold for a year and got them to add me to the program.
@@juantoledo8541 I hope you called and got the credit. I didn't know about this for a few months but still got the statement credit after calling them. It's $100 for the Gold card and $150 for the Platinum. And yes, you can get both! (I did.)
The date the charge posts for the dining credit information was a huge help. I was potentially going to wait the last day of the month to use the credit, not anymore subbed for that reason alone 😃
The issue I have with this card is that I rarely use rideshare, and Uber Eats is loaded with fees and up charges. In terms of the available restaurant credits, I never go to any of these. So this would be additional spend for me and not a great value. Besides, I have no fee cards which earn 5.25 on restaurants and 3.5 on grocery, but at lower spending levels. This card will certainly make sense for some people, but it isn't a card that will ever interest me. Good video and enjoy your channel.
My issue is that with the gold card, Walmart supercentres are not considered supermarkets. I would have to use the blue business plus or the blue business cash at 2% cash back or 2% MR points. For supermarket I would have to use my no fee every day or blue cash everyday and when I reach the $6,000 cap on each, I transfer it to the blue business plus or blue business cash for the remainder of the year. The blue business plus and the blue business cash could also be used at Walmart supercenter or target or any place not considered a supermarket. 2 Percent is better than nothing
Gotta love the credits on the AMEX Gold to not only significantly decrease that effective fee, but then you are getting those super solid lifestyle multipliers too. Great video Chase!
I can't value the credits at 100%, maybe at 70% max. This makes my effective annual fee around $80. And unfortunately, the 4x back on dining isn't good enough for me. I use my CSP for 3x back on dining instead. Great card to get for the SUB though!
@@teattimeyes, because the card costs a lot less per year. People completely overestimate how much money they are actually saving with point multipliers. If you spend $1,000 in a year eating out, 3x back means you saved $30 while 4x back means you saved $40. Amex gold costs $250 a year just to save you $40, while the CSP costs $95 a year to save you $30. People dont do the math and just see a higher point multiplier. Eventually, the Amex Gold comes out on top, but barely anybody actually spends enough money per year to make more money back on the higher multipliers. Even the credits are purposely a smaller amount of money than you would normally spend. If you get fast food once a month for example, and say “oh ill just go to Shake shack instead of mcdonalds because I get a credit now” well the $12 meal you got a mcdonalds is $25 at Shake Shack, so even after the $10 credit youre actually wasting an extra $3 every month. Youre not saving any of that $120 dining credit, youre spending $25 extra to try and save $10
I do have a two part question for you my guy in regards to the whole 120 dining credit. If my statement cycle of the month ends next week and I use the amex gold card today and as long as I use the card to order any restaurant listed under grubhub for any amount, will I then get the statement credit?
Thank you for the questions. #1 the credits go by calendar month instead of statement cycle month. #2 if you make an eligible purchase on the last day of the month, but the merchant doesn't process that transaction until the next day, then the statement credit would be applied in the following month. So it is safer to use the credit earlier in the month. Or like 3 - 7 days before the month ends.
You also can maximize the Uber benefit by adding the Uber credit from the Platinum card also that will give you a $25 total monthly credit. I didn't realize that until I added both.
@@INejah0710 if you have the Amex platinum and the Gold, add both cards to your Uber account. At the beginning of the month each will load their Uber credits automatically which will total $25.
If I only get the card for the two food credits and from what you said the Uber credit doesn’t show up as a statement balance in your Amex account like the dining credit, then wouldn’t it still cost me $130 at the end of the year to pay off the annual fee? Interested in getting the card and trying to understand.
So technically you are still going to pay $250 per year for the card. The Uber and Dining credit are just ways to get your money back per se. Those total credits = $240 which brings the effective annual fee down to $10. Effective annual fees = (actual annual fee) - (all the credits or ways to get back value) Of course those credits only are valuable when you actually use them. Also, it helps if you are already spending money on Uber or at those dining credit eligible restaurants because now you will get what you normally buy for $10 less each month. (i hope that made sense) Lets say this: if you use $0 credits, you paid $250 for the card If you use $50 credits, you paid $250 for the card BUT effectively you paid only $200 since you used that card to get $50 of stuff for "free"

Thank you for the video. Hi.I need you help😎I own a restaurant. I spend 3k-4k at the wholesale market a week. Should I apply gold card or blue card ? Thank you
does the wholesale market register themselves as a grocery store or restaurant as their merchant code? If not, I would get the Amex Blue Business Plus.
I understand where you are coming from. If someone can't use those credits or doesn't normally order from any of those businesses, then those credits are not as valuable.
Once you reach $1000/month grocery spend, this card all by itself runs away from all card combinations by virtue of 4X x 1.5X = 6X when redeeming Membership Rewards points for 1.5X. It returns $720 per year at that rate.... Tax-free.
