I love how they took the concept of girl crush but instead of it being children in crop tops swinging weapons around to look badass but falling well short and they spun it to being done by homicidal adult women who will (and do) kill you. Its the multitudes of calling out the social media narcissism along with the entertainment industry as a whole that encourages and participates in that. Everyone chasing a "crown" to wear without regard to anyone or anything in the way as a chnace to get to the top.
ok DC is still trying a new concept and a new musical genre. the Indie Punk or Fusion genre in my time is not my favorite genre but Dc once again manages to appropriate the genre. Handong is really very pretty in this MV. I really find her more and more attractive. even if my biases are still JIU and YOOHYEON I find that Handong is more and more charismatic and present in DC's MVs. Gahyeon is always super cute (even if she doesn't like people saying it) and of course they are all amazing and this album is even more mature than the others. I saw their comeback showcase live and my favorite song from this album is RISING. Looking forward to hearing your opinion on the DG album.
I love this video! it's funny how they show us a kind of behind the scenes of what we constantly see on social networks but sarcastically, this world of vanity and materialism that k-pop artists generally show us where we usually do not perceive the human but the product that the big entertainment companies wanted to create, where everything is material and what matters are the brands they use and that look good in photos with extreme editing to the point that sometimes they don't look real🥲 I really admire the work of the minds of the dreamcatcher creative team because they have managed to position the girls as (in my opinion) the only girl group in the k-pop industry that is completely original in both its sound and its concepts and they are incredibly talented (talent that they never stopped working to be recognized for it) there is not one of them that is occupying a place just because of their pretty face. If I were their company I would take good care of them so as not to ever lose them, they are a treasure in kpop🌟
100% The ladies have talked about the company, the staff and the Execs in the past (and I am sure they will do so again). The way they talk about what they are allowed to do (and how all of that works) and what they are not allowed to do (and why), to me it seems much more like a giant 'chosen family' situation than being 'merely a company where everybody works'. These people (Execs, Managers, Crew, Support staff and obviously the group members themselves) all seem to genuinely like and respect each other to a very large extent. That respect is visible in just about every vlog the ladies put out. It's an AMAZING situation! I have not seen or heard of any other company that behaves like that from any of the other groups, idols or soloists I follow. It is not just Dreamcatcher as a group, but DreamCatcher Company as a whole, that seems to be unique in the Industry. But that is also very sad for everybody else.
dreamcatcher \:D/ the information you read about the song seem to be the basic at the surface interpretation but there's always a twist with them. if you know them, you would know the lyrics are 100% not them and are so over the top as to be satirical and a stab at the entertainment industry. the lyrics are something you might hear from a lot of mainstream artists, kpop or otherwise and dreamcatcher have never followed the trend with lyrics as a reflection of themselves. there's also a lot of imagery to support this interpretation if you rewatch it with an open mind.
The song is so different but in a weird way its not like its absolutely giving dc energy and aesthetic and i liked it so much and i like seeing them slaying every concept and showing that the girl r more than just rock and jpop style. And they can manage to do any type of music and I'm in love with that album they r literally flawless and gorgeous ✨
i think the lotus you saw in the video is actually the crown symbol, the same one on the album cover and everywhere else in the video, but it's still cool to see your interpretations!!
I completely agree with your assessment. You brought up all the programs used during the video. They show a whole bunch of technical stuff and editing that goes into making commercial content. People do this stuff for a living all the time in every large company and corporation. DCC has some crew who do all of that (Yoohyeon and Dami both know how to do at least some of it). And, like I was thinking, you brought up the group's legendary duality. We fans know that they are far from being egotistical narcissists (they would never have gotten off the ground at all as a group if they were such narcissists). Obviously with their being such an over-looked group for so long, and for being snubbed multiple times and even straight-up SABOTAGED at least once, they have proven themselves many times over to be some of the hardest workers in the K-Pop Industry. They have THE HIGHEST amount of perseverance, proven by the fact of their continued existence to this day. They never gave up when SO MANY people told them they should, and other people likely would have given up. They have scratched, clawed, scraped and scrambled to make any headway in the industry at all, so we KNOW they are down-to-Earth, HARD workers. So this song is absolutely not who they are, but they do it SO WELL! By showing us all the things that are possible with technology now, they are being absolutely transparent about that stuff with us. That was done purposely so that we KNOW there is a line between reality of who they really are and the fantasy they portray in their AMAZING videos. So many reasons why they are my ULT Group. :)
I'm surprised people think they're talking about themselves. It seems to me, as DC have in previous eras, to be a social commentary. In this case, about how people portray themselves as perfect online, or may even be speaking out about Hollywood itself. "Shine the spotlight - Like a time-lapse - Revolution, my perspective - Shall we start this game - My red carpet - Looking for my life - Driving on the highway drunken everyday, How is it, do you feel like a monster?" I think it's much deeper than the girls being narcissists. That would not make sense and contradicts their art.
It shocks me how "Insomnia" thought the lyrics were meant like that and found them cringe. And this video even reminded me that if you have any interest in the group at all, you would've at least seen some article or interview or part of the ARG. You can't follow the lore of every group, but that people genuinely thought Dreamcatcher went from meaningful songs to girl crush in a few months is honestly kinda disrespectful to them and the people behind it. Imagine putting so much effort into it and even making it kinda on the nose and people still don't get it and dismiss it as a cringe poser song😂
That's a pretty good point. You'd expect Insomnias to know them better - I think true ones do, or try to. I like watching first time reactors eyes light up when they see how different DC is. They almost always turn into an immediate fan, with their playlists for them then far exceeding any others. These girls are my top favorite (followed by GI-DLE), and are truly unique. They aren't a typical group, and that extends past just their rock sound - so I can understand some people not understanding how deep their messages are. But I'm just happy the more attention they get, superfans or casuals. As long as they keep going and their support increases, I'm fine with some misunderstandings here and there, as frustrating as it sometimes can be.@@moongirl8807
Your reactions are fun to watch and i always learn new stuff on all your videos, as well as learn to see things under a different light and understand every MV more. Thank you for your hard work!
I need DREAMCATCHER to keep this cocky attitude cuz they absolutely earned the right to do so. My favourite song by them is Locked inside a Door which is jazzy/pop and this is completely the opposite and I’m living. They sound amazing every time and I honestly don’t think they can do no wrong at this point ❤❤❤❤❤
Interestingly, while Venus is the goddess of beauty... Nephthys is one of the Egyptian goddesses of death, a helper of Isis in the protection of mummies, of healing and even childbirth. Also beer! Which is probably why JiU got that line lol.
Bananarama’s Venus. 80’s baby here, so I remember. Lol…My school friends and I made a silly karaoke video with that song at the mall for a friend who was moving back to Japan. Thank you for sharing your reaction. I liked your perspective on the meaning.👍🎶💕
I love this song so much ❤️ it's give a badass villain vibe ❤ even if it's change from before, I like to see them prove to everyone they are capable of everything 😊
Also, on the lotus flower thing. An aspect to consider. Handong spent some time in China so she probably knows about the "white lotus" trope. People who act innocent and flawless, but are secretly horrible and willing to do dirty things to maintain their reputation. I think this could tie into the theme too. Nothing kills an influencer's, or someone in the entertainment (especially Kpop) industries' career more than the death of their reputation. They HAVe to stay flawless and innocent, and a villain would do ANYTHING to keep it that way. other than that, kinda disappointed how many people see a NARCISSISTIC VILLIAN concept as *empowering*. You reached there DG, for that positive read. I mean the person literally died at the end?
So funny you mention CLC. I thought of them as well, but a different song (never remember the title..."handbag? No. Lipstick? No"...) I'm not sure about the song. I don't dislike it, I think it's good, but I feel like another GG could do this song easily, which I don't think I've ever thought about a DC single before. People keep saying they're trying something different, but I disagree. They have a lot of different genres on b-sides, I don't think this is different for them as a whole; it's different really only for a single.
I really wish they would have repeated the line from 7:24 to 7:34 (in your video) it would have made the song, which is already very beautiful, truly epic to listen to. Their latest comeback is called “War Cry” which was released only 9 days ago and my personal favorite “Firework” is an INSANE song with an INSANE choreography! I would be happy to see you react to them, I am sure you will quickly love them like all Luné (our fandom name) do🥹🫶🏻

my interpretation is that "ootd" is their take on modern social media narcissism.
also, i love this comeback so much, the album is so good 😭

JiU speaking FACTS.
Interestingly, while Venus is the goddess of beauty... Nephthys is one of the Egyptian goddesses of death, a helper of Isis in the protection of mummies, of healing and even childbirth.
Also beer! Which is probably why JiU got that line lol.
This makes sense because JiU is both the Visual and Den Mother of Dreamcatcher.
@@rocinante6530 And also renowned for her love of alcohol. :)
Thanks for the fun DC reaction.
I hadn't noticed the lotus; that's cool.
HANDONG!!!! *screaming through eyes*

O.O Hello, shasha. Fancy meeting you here. :)

I'm not sure about the song. I don't dislike it, I think it's good, but I feel like another GG could do this song easily, which I don't think I've ever thought about a DC single before. People keep saying they're trying something different, but I disagree. Love your reaction and analysis 💯 👏🏽 😊
I really wish they would have repeated the line from 7:24 to 7:34 (in your video) it would have made the song, which is already very beautiful, truly epic to listen to.
