    Am I the only one that likes the linked brakes on this thing? It's quite different, but in a good way. With de-linked brakes when you get on the front, inertia lifts the rear (depending on how much pressure you give it). With this, the entire bike squats and in my opinion it's a much better use of braking power outside of an ABS system (which I wish it had).

    I think BMW is very expensive for maintenance and have a history of electronic failures,. after doing some research I finally bought a Honda Blackbird PGM-F1 fuel injection unit, did a suspension upgrade front and rear and the bike is a high flying mean machine with a precise handling and firm grip and fitted Akrapovic carbon slip-on cans, love it to bits, I saved a lot of money by choosing the big XX all this for less than 4k euros, used market is full of them, and is a bike that experienced riders have owned so you will find them in pretty good condition.

    • @Hellblazzer

      May I ask you what kind of upgrades you did to the suspension? Thanks.

      I had a few options to choose from Wilbers, HyperPro, Ohlins and Nitron, I chose HyperPro by recommendation of a XX racer, HyperPro is cheaper then Ohlins and offers the same quality in performance, very happy with it.

    I have a 1986 Honda Goldwing GL 1200 Aspencade SE-I Special Edition. It has the same brak system, The gentleman claiming to be the Product Developer, Designer, Engineer, Factory line worker, The salesman at local dealer, Kid out back washes customers motorcycle or you're half-drunk shade tree mechanic. Who or whatever he claims to be in my opinion is misdirected, mistaken and misleading doesn't really matter because he doesn't know what he's talking about. The braking system on the GL 1200 works on the same premise of the system he was talking about. you apply pressure to the rear brake and the front brake is automatically engaged. I'm not sure if you apply the front brake if the back brake engages I never tried it before. When you bleed the air out of the system the book requires you to bleed front and rear brakes. It's a very good system

  • @gordonmackenzie1309
    @gordonmackenzie1309 11 лет назад

    Front brake only applies pressure to rear when the front wheel is moving forward. You don't need it when stationary. There is a secondary cylinder on left fork leg oj a pivot

    Ata mata, when you aply the back brake only 1 of the 3 pistons of the each of front calipers is used. In adition to that there is a pvc valve wich limits the braking pressure up front when you aply the back brake. So it is not alot, just enough for stability. Although i would seriously recommend using your front brake and not the rear, much and much safer. Ride safe!

      I use the rear brake for trail-braking and I never had any wierd issues with this system.

    I have this identical bike, black P reg just with 80k and a few scuffs! Its ridiculous even today, what must it have been like back then!? blows my mind. Had a zx12-r and this at the same time, sold the 12 because kept warping front discs and was nowhere near as easy to maintain (headache bearings, fork bushings etc, plugs) as the bird. However the 12 is like all the things you want to do to your blackbird (usd forks, stiffer chassis etc) but only back to back to you even notice these things, the blackbird is a great bike.

    How much pressure is applied to the front,when you push the rear brake...????
    Im use to use the rear brake for any emergency stoping in town,on lower speeds because the roads are very slippery ,and the blocking of the front is very easy if you use it a bit harder on crossings.
    Does anyone know how much pressure is generated to the front when you push the back brake???? THANK YOU

    I am developing interest in this bike but have three concerns: fuel consumption, expensive maintenance and need for frequent engine readjustments. Those are the negatives a former owner told me.
    Could anyone who has one tell me how wrong or right he is?

    • @cjim4875
      @cjim4875 2 года назад +1

      Fuel consumption very reasonable for what it is. I generally get about 38mpg, sometimes 40mpg on a trip if I can restrain myself.
      Re maintenance; not bad at all. Motor is bulletproof. I've got over 40,000 miles on mine, never had the engine apart, never needed valve adjusted after initial service.
      Re consumables like tires, chains, sprockets etc., depends on how you ride. Bike has a lot of power and weight,. I tend to ride it fast but not hard, as I have an Aprilia for the track and a Duc Monster for fun. The Blackbird is for long fast rides and/or for carrying a passenger. Great bike . Find a good one and you won't go wrong

    my blackbird never brakes the rear tyre when I apply the front brake. I tried it on the center stand but the rear tyre keeps spinning freely no matter how hard I hold the front lever, while with the foot pedal the CBS works perfectly and I would feel the motorcycle diving forwards when applied. any explanation ?

    • @agohelliwell6755

      stilkus of course the rear wheel turns ! The front suspension has 2 drop under braking to open a valve 2 let fluid go 2 rear caliper !!!!!

    Hot tip - if someones right leg is flapping about in the breeze on take off they generally can't ride for shit. This blokes absolutely terrible and should not be allowed anywhere near a bike with this sort of power.
