It's always been insane to me that Skip Beat is such a staple long-running shoujo but it's never gotten that popularity that it seriously deserves, so thank you for spreading the word and I hope you enjoy the rest of the series! And welcome to the constant suffering of the SB fandom, can't wait for you to join us in futilely hoping for an anime reboot lol
I love how unique Kyoko is as a shoujo protagonist. She's doesn't really fit into any set category. She's neurotic, bright, and hilarious, but also traumatized, angry and deeply determined. She is stereotypically feminine in so many ways but also defies that in so many ways. Not to mention she is somehow both incredibly dense and intelligent at the same time. You can't help but love her.
I read Skip Beat for the first time a few years ago and what can I say? I came for the revenge plot and stayed for a complex and great story and I loved the dedication and hard work to make your dreams come true. And the romance story was cute too. And at first the art style felt outdated, but I got used to it pretty quickly and I think the more recent chapters look better without neglecting the unique art style completely. 12:05 "although disguised as a chicken at the time" Bo the Chicken is one of my favorite parts of this series. "He" is a means for Kyoko and Ren to get closer without realizing it. And the costume adds a note of absurdity that makes me giggle every time. Not every arc is my favorite (I can really do without the "method acting real life" arcs like the Heel Twins) but this manga is absolutely a favorite. I've been reading it in its English releases for at least a decade, and the s.l.o.w. drip of recent volumes is killin' me.
;-; the heel siblings arc is the best, the sexual tension was unreasonably high. There are so many things in anime and manga where I roll my eyes about the “they are not blood related” logic but this is the arc that got me to understand the appeal lol
@@ruriva4931 My favorite parts are (thinking off the top of my head): Valentine's Day, the vengeance spirits, Bo the Chicken as previously mentioned, the first half of v. 45, Kyoko and Moko's push-me pull-you friendship... it's been a while since I reread the early volumes, and I'm sure I'd remember others if I did. :)
Skip Beat is one of my favorite manga and not just shoujo. But I’ve been reading it for 13 years so I’m jealous of people who are just discovering it because they can binge the chapters. I’m surprised why it’s not as popular as it should be.
I should’ve known Skip Beat would completely grab me and pull me under when I bought the first omnibus volume and the girl working at the bookstore told me she’d read it like 8 times and proceeded to recommend Tokyo Crazy Paradise too 😭 Becoming a Skip Beat fan is like entering a cult. But like, a good cult. That everyone should be in. Except for when I’m trying to buy the physical volumes and they’re all out of stock.
have loved skip beat for nearly 20 years. it is such an amazing piece of work, written so beautifully that it actually annoys me when people think the length means it's full of filler arcs or "unnecessarily long." the pacing is perfect. in real life this may be hard to understand given that the manga has been ongoing for 21 years but if you read skip beat back to back to back you realize it flows perfectly. the story arcs, utter characterization are brilliant classic shoujo (the arcs remind me of the huge manga series like card captor sakura or sailor moon). that said, as a fan of skip beat for most of my life it's like, the story is so well written you get hooked and end up addicted chapter by chapter, month by month, so i actually do hesitate recommending it to people who don't want it to consume a significant aspect of their waking thoughts. but it’s such a precious beautiful story is it any wonder it’s been such an iconic series for two decades.
Ohhhh, another oldie is here. Hello there. You beat me by five years. Damn it. Getting cautious to recommend the Manga by fear people can't think of anything afterwards, Lord, do I understand you. Are you on the discord?
@@adie801 yea these days the comics are so bad at ethical and moral aspects. And people keep pointing things at the slight things like sooooo sensitive.
Thanks for joining us!!! (Guy who has been reading skip beat for 12 years) I reread this manga once a year and Kyoko is literally my best friend. I'm so interested in hearing your thoughts as you continue reading!!!
Im a 30 year old straight dude who loves anime like chainsaw man. I started reading this 8 or 9 years ago and I also try to re-read it once a year because it's absolutely amazing. I don't understand why it's not more popular.
I'm 26 and I've been following Skip Beat since middle school! I absolutely love Kyoko. She's so fiercely driven despite her hard past, and her pettiness is a chef's kiss. I CRAVE EVERY SITUATION where her very fem appearance and interests lead people to underestimate her, but then her incredible work ethic, empathy, and talent blows those people out of the water. She's such a wonderfully layered character. My friends and I just totally gush over her.
As a one piece reader I fully understand how it skip-beat being ongoing is part of the charm bc like when you love the characters so much why would you ever want them to go away and stop hanging out? I watched the skip-beat anime a year or two ago and so this is the push I needed to finally read the manga!
Skip Beat starting off being a revenge story that turns into not a story focusing on romance, but one of learning to love oneself first. At its release, it was a head of its time and Kyoko remains one of my most iconic shoujo heroines ❤
We absolutely love to hate Sho Fuwa in this fan house! 😂 I’m so incredibly happy that you enjoyed the series, and suuuper glad you made this video!😭 I feel a similar joy at weddings, lmao, but instead of a union of two people, it’s the union of a geek into a new fandom 😂 This series deserves the recognition and I sincerely hope more people get to share the awesome joy and fun that is the Skip Beat!! experience.
@@ColleensMangaRecs But the wait is so worth it everytime. It is seriously impressive for the mangaka to keep the series going and going well for so long. Btw, the eyes in SkipBeat are probably the most gorgeous ones in any manga. Who cares about triangle faces when you can look at the eyes.
Literally can't focus on my work right now because this is the best video I've ever seen. I've been saying for years that skip beat is goated and there is finally someone on youtube to defend it. I love the part when you said those who stay away from skip beat are weak because they ARE! People don't give the art of skip beat a chance when they read things like jojo and hajime no ippo. None of these mangas have bad art, it's just significantly different than the general anime styles we think of! This manga is so near and dear to my heart and I'm thrilled that you love it as well :)
I read Skip Beat for the first time when I was 13 (now 25) and decided to read it again last summer because I couldn’t remember a whole lot about the ending… only to find out that the reason I couldn’t remember is because it wasn’t finished at the time… and still isn’t! 😂 I’ll probably binge it again once I hear it’s getting close to an ending
Skip beat and yona of the dawn are one of my favourites shoujo manga back to back (cheese in the trap for webtoon) and I love how in skip beat we started with a revenge story which delves into a beautiful story. Recent villainess isekai manhwa wishes it could be this honestly.
Hey, since you also read Webtoons and say you enjoyed that Skip Beat started with a revenge plot and then expanded, I really want to recommend the Webtoon Kubera to you.
What I love about skip beat is kyoko. She's a breath of fresh air in shojo/anime. She's head strong incredibly relatable and such a strong person. I adore her sm.
Agreed, Kyoko herself is one of the greatest main characters in any anime/manga/comic. An emotionally abused girlfriend that drops her loser boyfriend and sets out to crush him by becoming his biggest competition? The fact that its an interesting series about acting and the Japanese version of Hollywood is only a bonus. Kyoko herself sells this!
Skip Beat is one of the best shoujo comedies, right up there with Ouran High School Host Club if not better. It's been one of my favorites fro well over a decade. If you ever complained about romances developing too quickly or love triangles not being portrayed realistically, sit down, grab a water jug, and strap in because Skip Beat has got you covered while being hilarious and heartwarming
Glad to finally see someone talking about skip beat. It was 2 years that I first read this manga and I felt like I was the only guy that ever heard of this serie. Regardless I find skip beat amazing and kyoko mogami to be a unique and interesting character to follow.
I love how Kyoko loves fairytales yet she is very realistic with her own life, she is exactly like me in that sense I love to be hopeful and have fantasies but I like to consider being real as well.
I love you so much you have no idea! As someone who essentially grew up with this series it makes me so happy that you gave Skip Beat a chance! I also hope more people give it a chance as well ^^
i'm more into animes, and I watched Skip Beat anime version at first. The story was good to the point I had to know what comes next, so I started reading the manga, and here am I YEARS later waiting for the next chapter. The early revenge plot and overcoming challenges dragged me into this one. Found your channel while googling for Skip Beat ending predictions LOL
I was absolutely obsessed with this manga and anime in my early teenage years… it still holds such a fond place in my heart… it’s been years… I need to reread it
the moment u said ren tsuruga i smiled, sho fuwa i laughed. skip beat played a part in me discovering & falling in love with anime & asian dramas. and it makes me happy to see u so happy in this video. also skip beaters huh 😆💜
I love skip beat! It’s been my favorite shoujo for years I usually say it’s the one piece of shojo, because it’s a long story that many people are scared to start because of its length and yet when they do they love it and wish it was longer I also think the art style is not that bad but also it changes with the years, for example the infamous triangle shape head is not the same years later, in recent chapters ren and other male characters have more round faces and imo the art is really good and the facial expressions amazingly drawn I love kyoko as a character because she’s allowed to have strong emotions, she has that unapologetic anger but also very sweet moments when she’s vulnerable or very caring, she embodied bitterness and anger and yet also loves romantic imagery and fairy tales And these 2 sides of her personality coincide very naturally and make it so easy to like her and root for her
Finally someone understand the masterpiece of Skip Beat! As a older fan of this manga I don't care if you just started this manga now, what is important to me that you love it as like I do.Skip Beat is my favorite manga of all time and I am so happy that someone is speaking postitive things about it. Your channel is my safe place and I am so happy that you made this video! And I can finally say welcome to the Skip Beat fandom we are so happy to have you here!
Welcome to the fandom! Not sure we have an official fanbase name lol but anyways thank you for making a video on SB! It truly is one of those hidden gems (hidden in plain sight if I might add) and I wish it got more love, for example like Fruits Basket did (and continues to have). Manifesting that SB gets the same treatment some day 💫💫💫
Well Fruits basket is popular but not that appreciated at least not for the reasons I think it should. Also these days skip beat is getting popular More people have been talking about it and it has been getting more love even equally if not more than fruits basket so don't worry. Skip beat seems so good Many people have been telling me how great kyoko of a character is so this is encouraging. Maybe when I get used to manga alittle more since I am new to manga and skip beat is too long for a beginner like me. But many people have encountered me so I will read it oneday and I will be happy to be a part of your fandom.
THANK you so, so much for picking up this truly important Shojo series! Like a lot of commentors, I have been reading Skip Beat since 2003 and I grew old with Kyoko. I love this series and is so important for influencers (and idols ^-^) like you, to spread the awareness - we are so happy to have you in the Skip Beat Club! MAYBE we can reach the publishers - I want Nakamuras other work, Toyko Crazy Paradise, to be published, the story is fantastic and absolutely epic! Please all be patient with the author and wish her well!
Skip Beat was one of my library's top ya books this year!!! Really cool for a manga like this to be getting apreciation after so long. I'm planning on reading it this holiday vacation! I've been really getting into shojos like Fruits Basket and Nana, and I'm hoping itll be just as enjoyable
Just finished vol 2 and ITS GREAT!! I hope this video convinces me to continue (knowing im going to xD). You actually made me start reading it after seeing ur twit posts about it
Skip Beat is seriously one of the most underrated mangas. I love it so much and when the manga took a break from regular publishing back in 2014 I lost my desire to keep waiting, on a whim I decided to check back again this year if it was publishing again and I just reread everything and fell in love all over again.
gawd I love skip beat the mio arc was PEAK (note I havent finished it yet, it was not done the last time I read it) edit: wow its still ongoing last I read was “corn/fairy” ? introduction
Personally, I absolutely LOVE the art style of Skip Beat!, I always loved the eyes the emotions that were expressed very clearly! I grew up reading it so yeah a little biased here but still. I still love it to death and seeing how it evolved is amazing!!
tokyo crazy paradise is SOOOOO GOOD i know this is about skip beat but pls everyone who hasnt read tokyo crazy paradise i recommend it HEAVY skip beat was one of the first mangas i ever read and i loved it but tokyo crazy paradise stole its throne for me and ive reread it repeatedly since childhood. (and its complete too!)
i havent caught up with skip beat in literal years and i usually cant deal with incomplete stories but hearing ur excitement reawakened mine and i think u just convinced me to reread !!!😁
Ok... You did an incredible job of reminding me that SB was that light that little a fire in my soul to do and make creativity as a job... And now I find myself in love with it again❤
thank you for the video colleen! i got vol 1 of skip beat at my 5th grade scholastic book fair 😂so this video really took me back to my childhood. youve inspired me to pick skip beat back up and start enjoying it again ❤
man i read skip beat since i was in like, high school, like 10 years ago it is indeed such a good series, sometimes you feel like kicking and screaming, and every time Shou pops out of nowhere to join an arc you want to SCREAM i also appreciate that the writer didnt make Shou simply a "hateful character" who does evil things and you hate him, he actually has depth and desires and he DOES feel bad but then he's like.... you know, himself. somehow you find yourself both cheering him on to climb higher on his career while whishing he gets hit by a truck And seeing kyoko slowly get better and better at acting and building the characters she plays was pretty cool too, i love her as a main character and how unrepentant she is about her feelings, be it hate, sadness or happiness. she works so so hard and you cant do anything but cheer on her. anyways what i want to say is i second your notion that everyone should read it, it is very good 10/10 no regrets
I watched the anime first, fell in love, read the manga, fell in love even more!!! I was never bothered by the art style. in fact, I love it!! this series deserve a re-read
Welcome to the club!! It's hard to believe this manga has been ongoing for so long, I jumped on after the anime and never stopped. The buildup is so agonizing between chapters sometimes, but it's probably the few manga that gives me that burst of deeply heartfelt excitement when something finally pays off! I'm excited for the journey you have (had?) Ahead of you. 😌 Also, the bishonen triangle face is a time honoured shojo tradition! I feel like it got a bit more tolerable as the art evolved, but it's also one of those things that seems a bit jarring, but it's like immersing yourself in history and end up adjusting to it LOL. Reminds me of an anime parody here on RUclips called senpai club which plays up this and other classic shojo tropes.
I'm really glad that I got introduced to Skip Beat before, it's really an amazing series full of twists, turns and even a giant chicken costume. It's an amazing series, I love the comedy, art style and plot progression
Finally got around to watching this and have been so happy to see you enjoying Skip Beat so much!! I was reading it almost entirely alone for 12-13 years, so seeing you and others pick it up has been awesome. There was one other person I know who loved it a lot. I had let her borrow pretty much every single manga in my collection before Skip Beat, and after she started reading it, she was hooked & told me "I think I've finally found a manga of yours that's The One." Skip Beat has always been one of the hardest series for me to recommend due to people's complaints with its length and art like you mentioned, but it just never gets old for me. I love this series and its characters so much. I'm glad they've always been there for me to get a laugh or enjoyment from!
i remember watching the anime weekly back when it was still airing in 2008/9 during my college years (UK) as a then 19/20 regular dude i was hooked. annoyed its been 15 years and they still havne not finished the anime. may have to dive into the manga to get rest of the story. keep up the good work!
i started One Piece and Skip Beat from ground zero and after 20 years of reading only two years has passed in story. the time dissonant is real. its a slow burn because it took so long in real life. but Skip Beat is great.
@@ColleensMangaRecs It depends on the manga. We got Skip Beat only in 2021 and it's monthly (we are waiting for volume 20 right now). Chihayafuru volume 1 should be finally out this month instead. I happened to look at the scans of Ou no Kemono because it was announced for 2023 and I can't remember if and where you have mentioned it. In that case you already have 8 volumes in English.
I borrowed the first couple of volumes of Skip Beat from a friend in high school, and it was so fun! I'm not really sure why I didn't seek it out online at the time, but this video has convinced me to pick it back up and get caught up! This sounds like such a fun ride of a series!
It makes me so happy to see so much love for skip beat! I’ve never seen so much attention and love for Skip beat, for shoujo manga in general in the height of shounen anime. We really need to create a discord server!
I love Skip Beat soooo much! I honestly am more invented in Kyoko's growth as a future actress over whatever romance is going on. Go for it Kyoko, you're going to be Japan's number 1 actress (while being a talento). That said the manga's pacing really is up to a crawl now, it's best to read it every 2 years.
When i saw that you were doing a video on skip beat i was thinking ‘i don’t want to read skip beat but i cant wait to be convinced otherwise’ and i’ve been very much convinced so thank you a lot! You are very good at getting your point across and making me want to read every manga you talk about❤ I haven’t read a lot of manga but i already have such a big tbr just from watching your videos so thanks for doing what you’re doing!!
Oldie fan here. It has been fifteen years I'm obsessed with this manga. Thank you for spreading the word. We need more fans. And welcome. It's a rough path of torture and delight. And you will love every bits of it. And there is no escaping. Muahahaha. I hope you are ready. But welcome, welcome. ❤️❤️😘☺️☺️
Yeay! Indeed Skip Beat is a great series. The fact that Kyoko's inner conflicts are personified and can actually do damage to other characters... If I recall correctly, she unleashed them a few times. Also, if Tsuruga Ren is a faery boy a kyoko seems to believe, how can you not like him? lol. v(^^)V
Skip Beat is seriously my top 1 or top 2 favorite manga that I would always go back to❤ Updates so slow though so I like to wait for chapters to pile up before reading it again

I've started reading it at least over 15 years ago, I had re-read & caught up with it a couple of times through the years but at this point I've been waiting for the manga to reach its end...
Gosh I feel so old now.... especially when there are people now discovering a gem like skip beat... I remembered when I had to wait for updates... now those who are just starting can literally just binge read.
I started reading Skip Beat because of you! I'm enjoying it so far 100%. It's a refreshing change of pace compared to other shojou manga. I'm just now starting the Dark Moon arc and I have a feeling this is where the plot picks up some more, especially considering Ren and Kyoko’s circumstances. Thanks for introducing a great manga :)
YES!!! YAY! To be honest, I’d seen some of your videos, but when I looked for any reference to Skip Beat and saw that you hadn’t read it, I was disappointed. I’ve been reading Skip Beat since it first came out in English, and it is the only manga I’ve consistently followed since then-I’m so, so glad you enjoy it!!!
It’s funny - I actually tried the first three volumes of Skip Beat specifically because of your channel. I was interested in shoujo manga given how much you were praising it, and saw the three-in-one for like $15 and figured “eh why not”. It was a bit off for me, although maybe that’s because I read both Act-Age and Oshi no Ko and was spoiled by other acting-based manga. Might have to try it again to see if it can click.
Thank you so much for covering this Manga. I feel like no one talks about it but it's sooo good. I was unbelievably excited and relieved when I found out that issues were still coming out and it wasn't canceled like I assumed.
I remember reading skip beat when I was in high school it's so good I've been planning on picking it back up again but I have ways to go with catching up also really love your content
Thanks for the video! I love Skip Beat and it has a very special place in my heart because it was the first manga that I started reading. I hope that more people give it a try.
Nice video, it's great to see that there is someone in the community who is dedicated to spreading the word about shōjosei works. Skip Beat is a great manga and deserves more recognition from the western audience. As a small note, the shōjo manga with the most volumes is Patalliro!, by Mineo Maya, with 104 volumes so far.
I’m happy you made about about this! I love skip beat! I think I first read it in middle school and it was one of the first manga’s that made me laugh out loud. Kyoko is such a great character!! This is a good reminder for me to catch up on the series.
I’ve been reading Skip Beat since middle school when I picked up the first volume at a Scholastic Book Fair. Now I’m 26 and I’ve been buying every new volume as they come out XD It’s a grossly underrated series for just how long and consistently high the book sales are when a new volume is released, both is Japan and internationally. It’s had an anime adaption (and a crowdfunded English Dub with notable voice actors backing the project), Taiwanese drama, and even a PS2 game! Thank you for giving this series the attention is deserves!
Skip beat is one of my all time favorite Mangas and I have yet to find people around me who are really into it like me, so thanks for making this video! I hope so many more people read it and fall in love with it too!
I gave the anime a shot a couple of years ago and the end of the first episode was what made me fall in love with the series (Her reaction to Shou's betrayal). I just expected tears and some kind of sappy, dramatic love story and got Skip Beat! After the anime I went for the manga and the story just keeps on giving. I only got your videos recommended to me a few days ago, and really like everything I've seen so far :) That you love Skip Beat! feels like the cherry on top. I've not really looked into manga for quite a while now, the urge to read/watch manga/anime comes to me every couple of months to years, really, but I'm looking forward to see what you recommend when said urge hits again :) Thank you!

So happy to hear you talk about SKIP BEAT! It’s one of my favourite shoujos alongside Yona of the Dawn and Fruits basket! I’m 21 volumes in can’t believe that’s less than halfway lol. I just feel like nobody talks about this series it’s so underrated!!!

Bo the Chicken is one of my favorite parts of this series.
I should’ve known Skip Beat would completely grab me and pull me under when I bought the first omnibus volume and the girl working at the bookstore told me she’d read it like 8 times and proceeded to recommend Tokyo Crazy Paradise too 😭
Becoming a Skip Beat fan is like entering a cult. But like, a good cult. That everyone should be in. Except for when I’m trying to buy the physical volumes and they’re all out of stock.
Totally. It's a cult. Seal of approval. Eternity seal. And the fanfics, lord...
I'm still stuck with re-reading Skip Beat, haven't even looked at the fanfics yet...
@@Dominik-K take your time. Just imagine a bunch of frustrated readers over a two decades slow burn. 😂
Yes we're the only happy cult in history lol
have loved skip beat for nearly 20 years. it is such an amazing piece of work, written so beautifully that it actually annoys me when people think the length means it's full of filler arcs or "unnecessarily long." the pacing is perfect. in real life this may be hard to understand given that the manga has been ongoing for 21 years but if you read skip beat back to back to back you realize it flows perfectly. the story arcs, utter characterization are brilliant classic shoujo (the arcs remind me of the huge manga series like card captor sakura or sailor moon). that said, as a fan of skip beat for most of my life it's like, the story is so well written you get hooked and end up addicted chapter by chapter, month by month, so i actually do hesitate recommending it to people who don't want it to consume a significant aspect of their waking thoughts. but it’s such a precious beautiful story is it any wonder it’s been such an iconic series for two decades.
I’m so excited now
It's so enjoyable when your binging, can't skip any chapter but now it's just waiting hell
Totally agree with you! I've been a fan for 15 years and when I reread it I'm always impressed with the flow of the series
Thank you for joining us on the LoveMe train, I'm thrilled you enjoyed it 😊
Thanks for joining us!!!
I’m so incredibly happy that you enjoyed the series, and suuuper glad you made this video!😭 I feel a similar joy at weddings, lmao, but instead of a union of two people, it’s the union of a geek into a new fandom 😂
This series deserves the recognition and I sincerely hope more people get to share the awesome joy and fun that is the Skip Beat!! experience.
I love SkipBeat. But I always wait a year to catch up on the newest chapters. I want to binge it!
That's smart 😭 I'll probably have to do the same when I catch up lol
@@leoniek6351 thanks for the recommendation I'll check it out soon
omg twinsiess, those are my top 2 favs tooo
To be fair, there were one or two panels in the Heel Siblings arc where even my inner fangirl was like '... wtf is that face, Ren?!' 😆
Skip Beat grabbed me! It's so energetic and fun? Also I'm living for your Ren fan posts on Twitter.
He's got me as an official member of his fanclub what can I say 🤭🤭
This aspect of Kyoko reminds me so much of Anne of Green Gables and I adore this about both these characters
It’s been my favorite shoujo for years
I usually say it’s the one piece of shojo, because it’s a long story that many people are scared to start because of its length and yet when they do they love it and wish it was longer
I also think the art style is not that bad but also it changes with the years, for example the infamous triangle shape head is not the same years later, in recent chapters ren and other male characters have more round faces and imo the art is really good and the facial expressions amazingly drawn
I love kyoko as a character because she’s allowed to have strong emotions, she has that unapologetic anger but also very sweet moments when she’s vulnerable or very caring, she embodied bitterness and anger and yet also loves romantic imagery and fairy tales
And these 2 sides of her personality coincide very naturally and make it so easy to like her and root for her
Finally someone understand the masterpiece of Skip Beat!
I looked it up and skip beat is in my county’s library system we STAN LIBRARIES!!!
Libraries FTW!!!
Welcome to the fandom! Not sure we have an official fanbase name lol but anyways thank you for making a video on SB!
It truly is one of those hidden gems (hidden in plain sight if I might add) and I wish it got more love, for example like Fruits Basket did (and continues to have). Manifesting that SB gets the same treatment some day 💫💫💫
Well
Fruits basket is popular but not that appreciated at least not for the reasons I think it should.
Also these days skip beat is getting popular
More people have been talking about it and it has been getting more love even equally if not more than fruits basket so don't worry.
Skip beat seems so good
Many people have been telling me how great kyoko of a character is so this is encouraging.
"Tokyo Crazy Paradise" AAAhh, nostalgia..... : )
Just finished vol 2 and ITS GREAT!! I hope this video convinces me to continue (knowing im going to xD). You actually made me start reading it after seeing ur twit posts about it
Hell yeah!!!
Skip Beat is seriously one of the most underrated mangas. I love it so much and when the manga took a break from regular publishing back in 2014 I lost my desire to keep waiting, on a whim I decided to check back again this year if it was publishing again and I just reread everything and fell in love all over again.
gawd I love skip beat the mio arc was PEAK (note I havent finished it yet, it was not done the last time I read it)
edit: wow its still ongoing last I read was “corn/fairy” ? introduction
Personally, I absolutely LOVE the art style of Skip Beat!, I always loved the eyes the emotions that were expressed very clearly! I grew up reading it so yeah a little biased here but still. I still love it to death and seeing how it evolved is amazing!!
tokyo crazy paradise is SOOOOO GOOD i know this is about skip beat but pls everyone who hasnt read tokyo crazy paradise i recommend it HEAVY
skip beat was one of the first mangas i ever read and i loved it but tokyo crazy paradise stole its throne for me and ive reread it repeatedly since childhood.
The siblings arc is unreasonably hot
For real though!!! lol
thank you for the video colleen! i got vol 1 of skip beat at my 5th grade scholastic book fair 😂so this video really took me back to my childhood. youve inspired me to pick skip beat back up and start enjoying it again ❤
After Queen's Quality, I'll jump into any of your recommendations head first.
man i read skip beat since i was in like, high school, like 10 years ago
it is indeed such a good series, sometimes you feel like kicking and screaming, and every time Shou pops out of nowhere to join an arc you want to SCREAM
i also appreciate that the writer didnt make Shou simply a "hateful character" who does evil things and you hate him, he actually has depth and desires and he DOES feel bad but then he's like.... you know, himself.
somehow you find yourself both cheering him on to climb higher on his career while whishing he gets hit by a truck
And seeing kyoko slowly get better and better at acting and building the characters she plays was pretty cool too, i love her as a main character and how unrepentant she is about her feelings, be it hate, sadness or happiness. she works so so hard and you cant do anything but cheer on her.
anyways what i want to say is i second your notion that everyone should read it, it is very good 10/10 no regrets
Also, the bishonen triangle face is a time honoured shojo tradition!
Ahahah we have lots of series here in Italy because Manga has always been popular, especially in the 80s/90s!
The italians and the french have everything I want in terms of shoujo manga 😭😭
@@ColleensMangaRecs It depends on the manga. We got Skip Beat only in 2021 and it's monthly (we are waiting for volume 20 right now). Chihayafuru volume 1 should be finally out this month instead. I happened to look at the scans of Ou no Kemono because it was announced for 2023 and I can't remember if and where you have mentioned it. In that case you already have 8 volumes in English.
Gods, I feel so heard, so seen. Thank you for this video and everyone for speaking what's been in my soul for YEARS
I borrowed the first couple of volumes of Skip Beat from a friend in high school, and it was so fun!
Omg!
It's my fav manga of all time it's finally getting some recognition!
When i saw that you were doing a video on skip beat i was thinking ‘i don’t want to read skip beat but i cant wait to be convinced otherwise’ and i’ve been very much convinced so thank you a lot! You are very good at getting your point across and making me want to read every manga you talk about❤
I haven’t read a lot of manga but i already have such a big tbr just from watching your videos so thanks for doing what you’re doing!!
skip beat has always been there in my watchlist lol i need to definitely watch it now! amazing job auntie leen!
I've been watching the anime too and it's a lot of fun!! Definitely check it out too 🙌🙌
Oldie fan here. It has been fifteen years I'm obsessed with this manga. Thank you for spreading the word. We need more fans. And welcome. It's a rough path of torture and delight. And you will love every bits of it. And there is no escaping. Muahahaha. I hope you are ready. But welcome, welcome. ❤️❤️😘☺️☺️
The fact that Skip Beat’s anime only got one season is why I have trust issues.
What is the top 2 or 1?
If you don't want to tell it is completely fine.
It's so good to hear someone speaking about this series! It was the first anime that made me read manga, because I hate it before. Been reading since 2013. Love Yashiro, he's the entire Fandom in one person 🇧🇷
You are wetting my appetite for reading all the manga I’ve avoided! Puts Skip Beat on the never ending tbr list.
As soon as I saw Skip beat, I had to click!!! This story is so near and dear to my heart, whenever I feel down I come back to it, it's a complete package. Thank you for covering this one❤❤❤
I've started reading it at least over 15 years ago, I had re-read & caught up with it a couple of times through the years but at this point I've been waiting for the manga to reach its end...
You've done it again I'm incredibly interested I'll definitely check this out whenever I have the time.
Gosh I feel so old now.... especially when there are people now discovering a gem like skip beat... I remembered when I had to wait for updates... now those who are just starting can literally just binge read.
Yes!!!!! Skip beat I love it so much. I just want a 2nd season 😭
Ah yes, my favourite shoujo! It's one of the best classics which needs more recognition! Nice vid too
finally one of my favorite shoujo series is getting talked about recently and being recommended to me
I started reading Skip Beat because of you!
Its dangerous to watch your videos. Now I need to make time to reading Skip Beat :D
I love it! Thanks for the support! Spread the word! It's amazing!!!!!
YES!!!
I started reading it thanks to this video and I'm loving it!
I’ve been reading Skip Beat since middle school when I picked up the first volume at a Scholastic Book Fair. Now I’m 26 and I’ve been buying every new volume as they come out XD
It’s a grossly underrated series for just how long and consistently high the book sales are when a new volume is released, both is Japan and internationally.
I've not really looked into manga for quite a while now, the urge to read/watch manga/anime comes to me every couple of months to years, really, but I'm looking forward to see what you recommend when said urge hits again :)
Thank you!
OMG FINALLY some content on my favorite anime/manga!! I’ve waited for this for so long 😭
I've been reading Skip Beat since over 10 years, sharing it with everyone I know since it's just so good!! And it makes me so happy you've made this video and more people are reading it🤭🌼
This has been my favorite manga for forever now and I am so excited someone is talking about it!!!!!
I feel stalked just finishing another round once again of watching it and I loooooooove it!!
Skip beat actually legendary
should've put reading LEGENDARY fiction lol
@@ColleensMangaRecs XDD ngl i was hesitant reading the manga at first bcs of the art and rarely read shojo, oh boy im glad im wrong, it became one of my top mangas. I absolutely love kyoko, she's one of the best female characters imo, her flaws and growth are enjoyable to read.
My fav arc is when the gothic sibling arc and when kyoko faces her mother, it's just so good seeing ren and kyoko be so vulnerable and navigating their emotions
I’m sooo happy that you are reading Skip Beat! And that you’re promoting it here!! It’s such an underrated and little-known MASTERPIECE 💯✨✨✨
Colleen once again talks about another series that I would love to read one day ,hopefully soon
Been waiting for chapters for years now. It's a miracle that it gets updated sometimes at this point TT
The one piece of shoujo! Skip beat is one of my favorites shoujos, and I'm glad you made a video on it
My til now favorite arc is definitely Kuu's Arc
I'm glad you joined the bandwagon!!
And right now, we are suffering from the lack of updates. T___T
My heart literally skipped a beat when i saw this video, like proper gasp out loud sh't. Skip Beat is burned so well into my brain i can almost hear the early p!nk playlist. I can still perfectly remember the butterfly scene in her first role!
I haven't read Skip Beat since the Heel siblings arc - needless to say it's been a VERY long time! I used to be obsessed, going on forums (before Reddit was a thing) to discuss every chapter when they dropped. You've convinced me to rekindle my love!
