- Hello! Today I'm finally testing out the Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors, and share my thoughts and first impression of the paints. Hope you'll enjoy!

Regarding the mixing palette, yes there is a plastic tray/cover that came with the paints. I only thought it was to protect the paints in the box so I didn't really think about it, but as some of you have pointed out, you could use it for mixing the paints on! I have no idea if it is its initial purpose but it'll definitely work. Thanks! :D
Kattvalk I actually didn’t realize that in the box until now that inside you do a color chart. I actually took mini paint palettes and I hot glued them inside the box and It works for me
Kattvalk I was just about to comment this 😊. This plastic really holds well for mixing. What I do is I put the plastic over the color chart so I can still see it to choose colours if that make sense.
Mine never came with a plastic cover so that's sad. 🙁😢💔

Anyone who's wanting to buy these should keep in mind that they are Japanese watercolors meaning they're made with totally different binders and aren't meant for lots of mixing and aren't really good for glazing as they lift very easily. Also, they are opaque. I suggest checking out the video "What is Gansai" by Sadie Saves the Day 😊
Very interesting video.I like how she explains the differences without saying they are good or bad. They are just different.
They're really not opaque. A couple colors are but the majority of them are not. And they glaze just fine.

Also I never go outside as well but what I did the one time I carried them to school... I took the primaries out and put them in a metal case and used magnets or tape to keep them in place
I’ve always wanted to try these because I’ve heard so much about the pigment and stuff. The pans are also huge! When I’m not broke from buying other art supplies, I will am totally planning on getting this set. It’s awesome that they come with metallic colours too.
Thanks for the review. I am on the fence about getting a set of these watercolours... I have a ridiculous amount of watercolours already and I'm trying to concentrate on using only two sets to really come to grips with their personalities. (Daniel Smith and W & N Cotmans). But so far everything I've seen about them I love sooooo... might just suggest them as a birthday present.
Peta Hewitt Daniel smith is really good depending on what kind of art you do . I don’t suggest buying the kuretake because it’s not as pigmented as Daniel smith
@@angroxy7865 agree, did not like ganzai tambi set, colors look chalky and blues are disappointing. Its overpraised in my opinion.
hey i have a question regarding the cotmans! i have a travel palette of them and i haven't been able to get my colors as vibrant or dark with them, have you noticed yours lacking in this aspect? i can't decide if its the paints' fault or my inexperience's fault lol
@@elenakk9125 i feel like it depends on some of the colors but it could be that you maybe use too much water? I feel like just wetting it with one drup and then using it with a brush that's damp is enough I can get pretty good pigment out of them
I have these but I paid under 25us for mine. They are so pigmented and just love them... sometimes they have a shine and are a little harder time payer but easier to pick up...

that mermaid is absolutely stunning
The plastic cover that is on top of the paints when you first open the box...can be used for a palette

I love this play on a classic mermaid!
I dont know how old your stock is... the new ones do come with a plastic insert that can be used for mixing. Also as a note for everyone... these water colours are not that lightfast. Some colour hold well while others have a dramatic change. Very much enjoyed your art! Nice work.

I've been using a probably 50+ year old Reeves student watercolor set for over a year now. After watching your video I needed this watercolors, so now I'm getting them for Christmas.
I have these and they are amazing, especially for the price. I keep them on my desk at home, as they are too big to take anywhere. I have a small Daler Rowney set for going back and forth from uni with. So it's a good wee system i've got going!
Woah they are sooooo pretty and pigmented! I have to get me some! Also I love how you drew a cute lil fish head instead of a fish tail on the mermaid XD it's so much more interesting! It's adorable
This was my first “big” watercolor purchase ever, years ago. They are really beautiful creamy paints! Ive used the crap out of them, and have only hit pan on a few colors. And the cardboard has held up well, despite the fact that I used to spray my paints with water. Now I us a dropper. But I go back and forth with these and the mijello mission gold watercolors as my fav paints. I mostly use my mijellos, bc I have them in a nice small compact tin.

I love Kuretake paints. I've had my set for a few years now. I keep mine at my desk. And I love using it for character drawings.

These are the only watercolors I ever use; best purchase I’ve ever made! I’ve used them for a couple years and have only reached the bottom on the dark brown!
I just got these off amazon and paid a little extra to get Kuretake waterbrushes and they are the BEST watercolours I have ever used!
I love those, they are so pigmented. It might just be me but , it was really fun to watch her paint with them.

This pastel purple is so freaking gorgeous... All of them are. Omg
I've got the gold one a week ago and it is perfect! Works much more nicer than the usuals and it was a bit cheaper which suprised me for such great quality! I am not a master of watercolours nor I'm into them but I totally suggest you guys buying them for whoever likes QUALITY watercolours!
They're not actually watercolours. I believe its called gansai paints? They use a different binder to watercolours and aren't lightfast.
I bought these a few months ago, and tested them out, but havent gotten around to actually painting anything with them. But from the testing, I'm in love with them!

I love these watercolors! I use them all of the time! And what I use for a palette is the plastic cover that comes with the paint🤷🏽♀️ works for me 😊

Eastern watercolours tend to lean more to the opaque side...mijello is the same. As is the koi water colours. I really want these but i have so many already that i keep putting out off.

I bought these earlier this year and I love them. I'm not great at using them yet, but they are amazing. I've heard reviews that say they are essentially the gouche of watercolour.

I never used them myself but from what I saw on RUclips, I feel like the Schminke watercolours are the most vibrant and pigmented. I know it’s biased since I’ve not personnally used them but well !

I’ve just ordered a set of these a few days ago, along with an empty metal tin pallet. I plan on using an exacto knife to cut and transfer some of the paint from the pallet it came in, to a more sturdy water friendly one. ❣️🇦🇺

Yess I love the "reverse mermaid" thing they're so goofy looking! A fish, but with some curvy legs! All they're missing are some fishnets and some stilettos then they're ready to hit the club.
10/10 most majestic mermaid ever painted
I have the Windsor and Newton conman pocket plus pallette. I only got it a few days ago but all round it is an OK pallette for the little price it costs. Would recommend it to beginners like me
I just got the Gansai Tambi pearl shimmer paints and literally all i want to do is paint glitter rainbows. They're also really awesome for Mermay!

Edit: Also I think it's a great pallet, though it isn't very portible friendly I still very much enjoyed the paints
That fox artwork is amazing!
An interesting tidbit about the size of the pans: I dissolved the paint and filled it into a full pan. It fills exactly one full pan, so a little bit less than two half pans.
It's less than you expect, the pans are very shallow.

You should try grumbacher academy watercolors. I heard they are one of the best student grade watercolors out there!!! Some people prefer them over some artist grade watercolors!

I have Windsor newton tube watercolors that I love. I almost always mix my colours (rarely do I use a color straight from the tube- I’m weird I think). But I’ve seen this set being used by other youtubers and it looks so nice.
