You can always spot an electric player playing acoustic and vice verse. Electrics tend to accentuate single note playing and melody, while acoustics accentuate harmony, texture and dynamics and it shows in the styles of those who play predominantly one or the other. Like an organist playing the piano, its technically the same but really, its so different.
Great video, which I can't even count how many times I've re watched it! Great guitars, wish they were more accessible in the US. Chappers is an incredible player and the captain does a great job as well!! Thanks for the great content!!
The two of you always brighten my day with your humor, knowledge, and instruments I love.

That's one of the most informational videos out there about acoustic guitars, it should be called "the ultimate acoustic guitar shape guide". It's great, i wish it will open the eyes of many people, who don't usually get to play or even know acoustic guitars so much ;] There's a whole different world with this guitars, and Faith is just stunning, they offer so much value for money. Two weeks to get mine \m/
I've watched this video a few times and I never get tired of it. Been looking for a 00-000 style but now I'm sold on the Mercury. Great job guys. Now get me a deal to ship to Canada! ;) Carlos
smitbar11 mentioned Seagull which is a great sounding guitar. Also I just test drove a Norman a couple of days ago, another Canadian made guitar. It sounded fantastic. Very balanced tone. I played a parlor and a dreadnought. Both were under $500 US.
I was looking at Faith guitars, but ended up buying a 2nd hand Breedlove AJ250-SF Plus. I know Chappers uses the pick + occasional finger picking right hand technique which is nice, but I'm a pure fingerpicker, with a very lead orientated approach (not a lot of strumming), but don't have the budget for the kind of really high end guitars similar players tend to go for. Your videos are great, and hugely entertaining, although in this instance; I would have liked to hear these acoustics played more without any plectrums involved at all, as this really shows up that articulation (or lack of it). Small gripe though guys.
Great vid guys... Request: Classical Guitars!! I started guitar at about 12 years old, when my dad bought me a classical. I just bought a Cordoba Dolce (7/8) classical on ebay... wish you had a vid about that type of inexpensive, yet 5-star git box.
BTW, the Captain edged me towards my first Valve Amp (Blackstar 1 amp). Dude, am I happy I splurged for the ht1 head. OMG, with my repaired neck, '92 Gibson studio, I've got a great sounding pair at about $700 (cab expected to be Harley Benton vintage 12")
Interesting reviews and they do look value for money for sure. One thing I would say is that, all the guitars you demoed have that very modern take on the acoustic sound that seems to derive from the American love of the "Smile" eq curve. Boosted highs and lows and well, a bit of a hole in the upper bass and low mids. That can work really well in a dense mix where the acoustic is more of a vibe and bed for the song however, taken as the chief instrument in a mix it's not something you can somehow put back. That is, if you're buying an acoustic cos you're a fan of the likes of John Martyn, Nick Drake then, many modern makes simply wont drop you in the same ball park sound wise. That includes the large and expensive names in acoustic guitar making. Older Dreadnoughts don't have that so apparent disparity from the Bass strings to the top strings in terms of volume and projection. I understand there's a huge difference between the old Neumann 47 valve mics the likes of Nick Drake and John Martyn used on their recordings compared to a modern AKG414 however, the fact remains, in my experience and that of a fellow engineer, modern acoustics do seem to have that American "scooped" sound built in. If you want to hear for yourself then check out Nick Drake and John Martyn and for context in terms of rock listen to "Ramble on" by Zeppelin There's a "body" to the sound that modern acoustics seem to just shy away from. Again, as some have already commented it's the sort of thing someone who predominantly plays electric might not notice so much as someone who mainly uses acoustic.
IMHO ..This is one of the best vids you guys have ever done. Very interesting and informative. Really liked. Only problem is that every time I see something of this nature (that covers a broad spectrum) I usually end of wanting one of each. :> Ty for posting.
Great video guys, I'm after a guitar from this range and this really helped. I would say though that you might want to do acoustic videos in standard tuning, I appreciate you're primarily electric players and play in drop D a lot but it doesn't really give that accurate an impression of a guitar's bass characteristics. Otherwise awesome, thank you!
You can tell they've been doing videos a long time. They play well together. Wish they would grab some guitars and do a few small bar gigs here and there. Id fly to the UK to see that!
The Faiths are great. Remind me of the sort of 'great gigging guitar for less than a US brand' bit of the market Takamine used to excel at but for even less money. The sound quality, spec and price is a bit mental really.
As someone who's always struggled with the 'brightness' of steel strings and prefers nylon, I'm slowly persuading myself that a Faith might just be 'warm' enough to transition to. So I stumbled into this video and found myself educated as well as engaged by the reviewing. Circumstances mean I can't get out to try a lot of guitars, which is the only real way to buy one, so if I do buy a Faith, it'll probably be your fault. So thanks... I think? ;-)
I would think Martin would say the exact opposite of what Lee said as the Martin D28 is the miles away favorite of flatpickers in the USA. Just about all the bluegrass flatpickers prefer a D-28 which is the dreadnought shape. Mainly to have the volume over the bass and violin and mandolin takes up most of the midrange in a bluegrass band.
Faith guitars are great! I've had my Venus Eclipse for 3 years now and I still absolutely love it!! But it was hard as nails to get my hands on, I had to travel across the entire country from Bucks to Bristol to get it :P So it's great to hear that you guys are stocking them. I also have an old Patrick Eggle Berlin (Electric guitar) from 1994 when Patrick still owned the company, also excellent guitar! Basically in my humble opinion, Mr Eggle is a boss! :)
These are Chladni patterns. Sorry if I spelled wrong. It is truth, but you net no flowers, only sand. This is very helpful. I'm glad you noticed it. Used to do research for that back in collage...
16. 20 or therabouts. love the fact that acoustic physics are being spoken about, Django Reinhardt reference also fantastic, to me personally, gives validity to the guys reviewing the instruments, Salesmen indeed, but not in the spirit of the Radio sense :D These gentlemen know their craft.
Whelp, watched all 37 minutes and got excited just to hear about the US availability. At least I learned stuff about the shapes and styles, so thanks. I've been considering getting an acoustic at some point.
Nice to see you review some acoustics. How about a video of how to sound like Rodrigo y Gabriela? They used Yamaha acoustic guitars through Marshall amps. And are amazing players.
11 лет назад
agreed. So natural, beautifully sounding. I can't wait for my Faith Venus to arrive, two weeks to go :D
Was seriously considering a Faith before I got my Tanglewood. It was really close but the super jumbo just clinched it in the Tanglewood range. I'll have to get a faith parlour though, was an outstanding play.
Actually, flatpickers tend towards dreadnoughts (as do strummers), but yep, fingerstyle players like the OMs and 000s and 00s, as do the blues folks. Dreadnoughts are still great all-rounders, though, and I'm impressed how good all-round that parlor does!
I have a 1979 Washburn that has been used all over my family and it's warn down, hard to play but I love the sound of it. I figured it'd be more money to fix it than its actually worth so I've been looking at a new acoustic I could buy and ironically, I play mainly in my church but I love faith guitars. I'm in the US but I'd love to get my hands on one.
Generally it'll make it'll add a bit to the higher frequencies, may sacrifice a little bit of warmth, but no where near as much as say, putting a fresh set of strings on. Please correct me if I'm wrong. But that is my observation.
Nice video ! - You should really do a review of the Yamaha Pacifica series - especially the 611 looks to have the potential of being a killer "geetar" :-)
the chapman does not underestimate the notes. nice. repeates same notes with sweet rythum and sexy bends scat singing his little brain out. thats what its all about.
That thing about the flour is a very common trick used to identify the vibration of plates (flat things) it was the scientific standard up until the laser scanning vibrometer was invented that was mentioned in this video i use one to look at how speakers vibrate.
I just bought a Michael Kelly Patriot Glory as I didn't want to use my 2001 Gibson V anymore to save it from wear and tear. Wow! I was just expecting an ok guitar but boy does this thing play and sound nice. Anyway be great if you guys got your pinkies on some.
Agreed totally! My Mexican Strat is not 4/5 times 'less lovely' than a Fender custom shop :) It might just be me, but I seriously, seriously love Lowden. Anderton's should stock them imo.
You guys should bring Dorje's bass player to review basses. I'm a bass player, and love your reviews, and think you might get a few more channel views from bass players. I'm sure some drummers might feel the same way. Just an idea.
I bought an Ovation Custom-Legend, around fifteen years ago... a lovely guitar, and it still plays beautifully; but despite spending most of its life in a case, the top is now cracked and the only route for me to resolve the matter is through Ovation, due to the composites used in the bowl. I bought the guitar for around £1300, probably USD $2400 at the time, and realistically the economics of the situation dictate that I now have to bin it. I'd be very wary of 'investing' your money in an Ovation if you plan for it to be a 'keeper'.
Peter Marshall cracked by hitting, uncondition it or its just the way they are? I know they are unusual even today, but i like the sound. But anyway i'm still a bit sceptical of the plastic bowl. Haven't bought it yet :)
ilkicognjen My Ovation still sounds fine, but the cracks on the top are beginning to fan out and it's only a matter of time until the top gives totally. The issue isn't anything to do with hard-gigging, or major extremes of humidityas the guitar has spent most of its life in my house or in a guitar case. I've taken it to a couple of top guitar-technicians in the UK, both of whom have said that they wouldn't touch it due to the composite back. I haven't looked at the price of sending it back to Ovation in the US, but something tells me that it won't be economically viable. Don't get me wrong, it's been a lovely guitar and sounds great though...
Peter Marshall Maybe the bracing was different back then. I was thinking about the Standard Ballader or Elite series, basically the same thing, Elite is the multi-hole one. I really like the neck on Ovations, don't know any other acoustic guitar with that kind of neck. If you know any, pls tell me :D
Peter Marshall Generally speaking, it's actually best if acoustic stringed instruments (everything from guitars, to violins to cellos) NOT spend too much time in closed cases. It's important to let the wood breathe. You can get things to help humidify a case and and those do help, but it's still not as good as just having it on a stand at home. That said, I'm not sure that alone would explain the top cracking on your guitar.
Never heard of these guitars but I like what I see and hear about them! I'm a little nervous about dropping $1,000.00 on one! Any feedback on Faith Guitars would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi guys i like to watch your videos just to here the brilliant guitar playing. i did like the sound of the faith guitar i would love to here my yamaha lj6 miked up to see how it sounds. the truth is i think you guys could take an old kay guitar from wollies from the 1970s and make it sound good thanks brilliant tony
There's a video of the man who runs Godin guitars explaining why old guitars sound good. According to him, it's about the materials 'learning' to vibrate, and the more you play your favorite licks and frequencies on an instrument, the better it will sound because the guitar is accustomed to them and vibrates sympathetically. So really, the way to sound good is to practice. :P
Guys I am planning to buy - Faith, Acoustic Electric Guitar, Neptune Baby Jumbo Electro, Apollo Series -Gloss FANE. In my country this guitar is super costly, so its a bit out of my price range. I am an intermediate Fingerstyle guitar player and want a guitar which would last long in my playing journey. Is this guitar right for it?? Would you like to suggest any other guitar for me??

I appreciate this comment a lot. Cheers mate!
AudioHermit Totally agreed!
Except that organists also play with their feet - I don't think guitarists do ?
I LOVE !!! Hearing you guys doing an acoustic JAM! \m/🎸🎸🎸
Went out to the stores to buy a guitar. Didn't look at makes or prices. Spent ages trying them and ended up with a Faith Jupiter. Love it!
Great video, which I can't even count how many times I've re watched it!
Great guitars, wish they were more accessible in the US.
Chappers is an incredible player and the captain does a great job as well!!
Thanks for the great content!!
Rob, you had me at "the ubiquitous shape of acousticdom".
The two of you always brighten my day with your humor, knowledge, and instruments I love.

If you guys like these, you should really check out Godin's acoustic range, Seagull. Some of the best sounding guitars for the money
What an awesome well rounded guitarist you are chapman... Play on!!!Cheers
Mission accomplished. I enjoyed the education and being able to hear them played side by side to hear the differences.
Great video guys - I liked the history of the guitar shapes & your playing - great presenting too! Glad my mate introduced me to your channel!
I've watched this video a few times and I never get tired of it. Been looking for a 00-000 style but now I'm sold on the Mercury. Great job guys. Now get me a deal to ship to Canada! ;)

I have a Venus Eclipse and it is a beautiful guitar, highly recommended.
Excellent vid, have been looking at Faith acoustics for a while and due to the vid, I'm about to but an Eclipse Venus or Saturn - thanks guys!
Really like the overview videos of different makers, love to see more of them!
I was looking at Faith guitars, but ended up buying a 2nd hand Breedlove AJ250-SF Plus.

Really enjoyed this video, nice work Capt Lee and Chappers with this one.
I've got a Neptune hi-gloss and it's awesome...I tried Martins, Taylors, Guilds, Takamines etc and the Faith blew them all away!
Great vid guys... Request: Classical Guitars!!

Naylon clasical
Thats one of my favourite jam sounds for lee and rob

I have been waiting for this FOR SO LONG. YESSSS
Actually fell asleep listening to this last night. It just sounded so good!
It would be interesting to see/hear the Faith Naked Mercury compared to the Taylor GS Mini.
This. I was thinking the exact same thing.
You can tell they've been doing videos a long time. They play well together. Wish they would grab some guitars and do a few small bar gigs here and there. Id fly to the UK to see that!

hammondsphoto Terada's are good
FANTASTIC demo guys !!!
Makes me want to look into a Faith Jupiter Jumbo, and i am a die hard Martin bloke.
Best video of many great ones.
I think cut aways sound different. Thier lighter sound and less air pressure make it easier to record.
Really helpful vid, thanks for clearing up for me the different shapes and diferent finishes :)
agreed, so good to hear some clean playing, very atmospheric
love faith guitars i started on a mercury still my favorite acoustic
I've just added a mercury parlour as well , awesome guitar
As someone who's always struggled with the 'brightness' of steel strings and prefers nylon, I'm slowly persuading myself that a Faith might just be 'warm' enough to transition to. So I stumbled into this video and found myself educated as well as engaged by the reviewing.

Andrew McP the classic burst faith series with the cedar tops are especially very warm sounding.
probably the best overview of anything guitar related on the whole of youtube
sounds better than any taylor or takimine that ive ever heard.ive been playing for 40 yrs

Capt's knowledge of acoustic guitars anatomy/physiology was enhanced by the great visit from Gibson I see :)
Wow, this video made my, day, the jams were utterly incredible :D thanks very much guys :)
The parlor size is what you see the cowboys on the westerns playing. Nice video. The first one Lee had looks like my Fender T-Bucket.
Great review lovely sounding guitars ..beautiful woods and build quality..only get better with age ..got the own sound to ..
Whelp, watched all 37 minutes and got excited just to hear about the US availability.
At least I learned stuff about the shapes and styles, so thanks. I've been considering getting an acoustic at some point.
I totally agree, I'm mostly a guitar player but I'd love to see some bass stuff from Dave, and drum stuff as well.
If they mentioned that the guitars are tuned down to Eb I missed it. This will of course affect the response, tone etc..of what we're hearing.
Nice to see you review some acoustics. How about a video of how to sound like Rodrigo y Gabriela? They used Yamaha acoustic guitars through Marshall amps. And are amazing players.

just got a neptune love it, greatvid greatplaying
bought a Venus Hi Gloss on the back of the Andertons videos. nice one
I have a 1979 Washburn that has been used all over my family and it's warn down, hard to play but I love the sound of it. gotta love the new intro

Great vid, but sort of annoyed that you didn't do the Jupiter as that's the one I'm thinking of buying
Love it, Chappers sits with the MD of Andertons & tells you to go to other stores!!
finally! i had a feeling this is going to happen, i'm happy that i was right!
the chapman does not underestimate the notes. nice. repeates same notes with sweet rythum and sexy bends scat singing his little brain out. thats what its all about.
Good microphone, sound translates brilliantly.
What a great video. Im in the market for an acoustic and this definitely helped
Chappers, you should try and get your hands on a multiscale guitar, and do a review and general thoughts!!
You guys are Great!
awesome demo! would love to see a Dorje acoustic set with Faith guitars!!
Loved this, they sound so damn good!
The parlor sized one is very cool !
it sounds great when capt plays it!
They are REALLY nice guitars mate
Agreed totally! My Mexican Strat is not 4/5 times 'less lovely' than a Fender custom shop :)
It might just be me, but I seriously, seriously love Lowden. Anderton's should stock them imo.
It would be nice if you review Cordoba flamenco guitars!
for the mon ey i think Faith guitars are on a Par with Martins for half the price
ronatholl better than half the price
Nice !! What mic is the guitar record with? Pleaseee , greetings from Mexico
Bloody good call!
I have a faith Saturn trembese , just stunning, put it in dad gad tuning, & be prepared to be blown away
Great, great stuff guys! I think I need an acoustic!!!
i still own a mark 1 jumbo that i bought they day they came out in 2003 what a guitar :-)
You guys should bring Dorje's bass player to review basses. I'm a bass player, and love your reviews, and think you might get a few more channel views from bass players. I'm sure some drummers might feel the same way. Just an idea.
Great video! Very informative!
You guys should review some Ovation guitars. There are almost none on youtube...
Cheers :)

Never heard of these guitars but I like what I see and hear about them! I'm a little nervous about dropping $1,000.00 on one! Any feedback on Faith Guitars would be appreciated. Thanks.
they sound really good

Hi guys i like to watch your videos just to here the brilliant guitar playing. i did like the sound of the faith guitar i would love to here my yamaha lj6 miked up to see how it sounds. the truth is i think you guys could take an old kay guitar from wollies from the 1970s and make it sound good thanks brilliant tony
Yes, there are no vids on the new faiths and i really want one :)
really informative, thanks a lot.

Jesus that mercury sounds beaut. I'm definitely gonna get that soon
I love Captain Lee's acoustic playing!
thank you chap man
Guys I am planning to buy - Faith, Acoustic Electric Guitar, Neptune Baby Jumbo Electro, Apollo Series -Gloss FANE. In my country this guitar is super costly, so its a bit out of my price range. I am an intermediate Fingerstyle guitar player and want a guitar which would last long in my playing journey. Is this guitar right for it?? Would you like to suggest any other guitar for me??
I got one and I love it. I recommend them.
This video has made me want to play my acoustic! :)
Would be great to see a review of some gypsy jazz guitars. =)
