He's been hurt, betrayed, rejected... and humiliated by a father who never loved or accepted him, and made sure to let him know how worthless he was, and what a disappointment he was. So he's angry, he's hurting, he feels alone, misunderstood, and unable to trust ANYONE. And so he lashes out, pushes people away, and is consumed by a need to punish those who hurt and betrayed him. But maybe Caroline is his Elena :-)

I hate when people call Klaus a psycho. Nearly every character on this show has done bad things. They all have light and dark in them! So does Klaus. Light when he's with Caroline. She changes him. And he does too.
