Not all Elvis films got the credit they deserved, this is actually a great film! I've never seen the whole film but these scenes here are really funny, Elvis was clearly good at comedy.

He didn't get credit because he didn't have much say or control over the type of movies he acted in. One of the reasons he stopped acting was he was constantly singing and dancing throughout his movies while getting the girl at the end. He wanted more creativity and depth to his characters.

He was a great actor. By your comment, you think only dramas require great acting. FYI it is the comedy that is hard to pull off. Comedies require great comedic timing. Few dramatic actors are good comedians. Ekvis had perfect timing..so said his directors and co stars. Hal Wallis refered to Elvis as his genius. The director of Casa Blanca once came on set just to watch Elvis. He said Elvis was the greatest natural talent he had ever seen. Who ekse coud have played the irrestible gorgeous man thst all women wanted in his movies except Elvis? No one else would have been believable. I remind you that his big screen image is what so few had. Elvis also had combined talents no other actor ever had. Elvis had a photographic memory and knew everybody's lines. He could do all three simultaneously..sing, dance and play an instrument. Think that is easy? No other actor could do it. Michael Jackson, the Beatles no way could either. Elvis played many instruments too ..the accordion, drums several guitar types, the piano, organ for starters. He danced and created his own moves. He did most of his stunt work such as his own karate fight scenes. And he loved danger like driving fast sports cars and motorcycles. When presented with a dramatic role, he nailed it. He sang with great rhythm in multi language songs and every kind of music genre known to man. Who else could have sung songs like Old MacDonald and have sung them in good humor and well? Elvis had no acting training. He is one of a kind and a great actor.

On August 12th, 1977 I got to interview and have lunch with Rudy Vallee at Holiday Inn Carowinds. He was performing a one man show at the Pineville Dinner Theater. He had gotten a bad review in The Charlotte Observer and was cussing up a storm, ranting and raving. I was a dj at WGNC radio in Gastonia, NC and called the motel. I asked about Elvis and he said, “I did a picture with him for MGM which, if you haven’t seen it...don’t!” During the interview in his room and during lunch he opened up and shared all kinds of stories about Al Jolson, Bing Crosby, Johnny Weismuller, Bob Hope, Maurice Chevalier. He said Elvis was very polite, called him Mr. Vallee, and had a new Lincoln Continental delivered to the set the first day of filming. I am still in shock that I, a 25 year old small market dj, got to spend several hours with a major entertainment legend. I think the film is very good and that Elvis showed himself to be an excellent actor. Also, I think all of Elvis’s soundtrack albums contained very enjoyable songs, some of the best Elvis recorded.

In the late sixties and early seventies those dune buggies were popular for awhile. My uncle would buy kits, assemble them in his garage and sell them. The frames were fiberglass and came in unusual colors like tangerine, banana yellow, violet, electric blue which had a glittery effect in direct sunlight.

I think this is the first time Elvis used the term "damn it" in a movie. Well, it's 1968, so I'm not surprised. That was pretty much the year the Hays Code had died, and the MPAA came out with the ratings system which gave filmmakers the freedom to include sex scenes, four-letter words, etc.

Maybe you should read " Destined to die young". Elvis had MAJOR health problems from birth. There is WAY more to that story. His mom, Grandma Doll & 6 of his 8 uncles all died in their 40's. He took perscriptions to deal with his Genetic health problems, his enlarged paralyzed colon, Glaucoma, Antitrypsin Deficiency, a condition which can result in lung and/or liver disease both of which he had severely at the time of his death. Elvis was never a smoker or drinker. He had Together with the immune system disorder, hypogammaglobulinemia, which plagued Elvis all his life and caused him to constantly fight various infections. His “inherited” weak heart, reactive arthritis, and the impact of his nocturnal lifestyle, resulting in a lack of vitamin D, the effects of which contributed to respiratory infections, reduced immune function, and inflammation.
Of the 11 bodily systems that operate to keep us alive and hopefully healthy. Critically, Elvis suffered disease or disorder in nine of them! And five were present from birth and pre his fame. His heart (circulatory system), his lungs (respiratory system), and his bowels (digestive/excretory systems) required medication. Insomnia affected his nervous system……His immune system was compromised. His urinary system was not functioning properly. At one point there was even talk of dialysis.
Often he is dismissed as just another rock ‘n’ roll drug addict. He wasn't taking street drugs. He was taking perscriptions not to "ESCAPE" h was taking them to try to maintain some sense of normalcy as himself in a time where the medical field was limited. No DNA, Genetics, No MRI's, little known about the addiction, his dystrophy & No understanding of Vitamin D even.
Looking at the illnesses and disorders, that mounted upon each other over the decades, it’s no coincidence that Elvis’ prescription drug use increased as his health declined. From ear infections to chronic tonsilitis to recurrent flus to eye infections and glaucoma…..these arguably insignificant ailments independently, grew into something more. As his body broke down, alongside multiple immune system disorders and genetic complications, prescription medication and his handy PDR tried to fill the gaps. When that no longer worked, hospital stays became the norm and his list of ailments grew.
The sicker he got, the more prescriptions he was prescribed. He was seeing a cardiologist before he bought Graceland. He was 20yrs old. They have gone through Elvis's entire life of medical records & now have an entire different story now. This is all the facts Geraldo & 20/20 never stated.

But, unfortunately, the day she had her birthday, she had a hard time breathing, and she needs to go to the hospital. But since the virus happened, and we have to wear masks, she’s really mad. To make her feel better, I’m having a singing recital. I’m singing I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You by himself. And guys, let’s pray for her.

I think this Elvis protagonist falls under the niche sub-genre of "Guy who has a bunch of crazy shit happening to him and doesn't care, just wants to be left alone."

Elvis had absolutely no fault in the marriage. Priscilla knew who Elvis was 100% before the marriage. Why did she choose to remain and marry him? Why did she suddenly DEMAND things from him once her surname was Presley? Elvis should have married Ann Margret. I know Elvis didn't like the idea of his wife working because of his own importance in the world but better a working wife than a wife who wanted your surname and left when every little thing wasn't her way. I love Lisa Marie, I met her in Boston a few years ago but Elvis messed up on marrying Priscilla. His drug addiction didn't become rampant until the divorce. Before then, he took pills for getting up and sleeping but it was managed. He wasn't bloated or had a lack of energy. Hell, 1970 Elvis looked like a ferocious tall lion. He was in the prime of his life at 35. Then everything changed in 1973.

I love Elvis and been a huge fan since childhood but why do people keep blaming other people around him like Priscilla for leaving him. We each are responsible for our own actions and no one else is to blame but ourselves. Sure we all go through hurts in life and her leaving him did hurt but he was the cause of that. Why else would she leave if she was unhappy in the marriage. She wrote a book about her experience and there was movie based on it and the things she had to endure as his wife especially not being alone with him because of what 10 or so of the Memphis mafia always being around. I can't say I'm a fan of Priscilla but I just think he should be held responsible and not always people blaming the ones around him. Someone on another Elvis thread blamed Ginger for not staying awake 24 hrs a day 7 days a week to watch him and get him help before he died and thus gets angry when her name comes up. How absurd.

I agree. Ann would have rode it out and Elvis would have been fulfilled having a family again. He was real close to her parents his entire life.

@@cluvsonj because she married an image & KNEW how to break him. If you read any books on Elvis you would know his ETERNAL QUEST FOR LOVE & FAMILY. Priscilla KNEW THAT. She was having sex with her boyfriend who took her to Prom in Germany after meeting Elvis. She kept pretending to be a virgin because she knew EXACTLY what he wanted. She played the part and said everything she could UNTIL after the wedding.

@@kelliintexas3575 Well I don’t personally know of this because I do not know them in real life. A lot of people state things as if they are fact. No one knows unless they are there and witness it personally.
