This is sadder than our sweet Nene in the basement seeing this beautiful young male being brought under control by Shabani. Seeing Ai looking so sad and distracted was awful. But Kyo looking like he was put into “time out” in the corner by dad left me shaking my head in disbelief. Gorillas and NHPs are highly social and they need to be diligently seeking a happier place for such a good boy. He has such a long life yet and this is unnatural and probably hurtful to the young gorilla. Even Annie didn’t have spring in her step today. They all looked very lost.

Shabani is the silverback and as a silverback he is the king and have the right to mate “ just him “ with the females and he isn’t do any different than other silverbacks , matter of fact Momotoro kicked Gentaro some week ago and by the way Nene wasn’t never ever sweet at all , kicking and hurt Annie and interrupting and interfering with Shabani authority all the time. @vousmevoyez770 it’s the unnatural environment. Kiyomasa is maturing into a Silverback and as such is considered to be a threat to Shabani’s Alpha status and mating privileges. In the wild there is not often more than one Silverback in a troop and Kiyo would either leave on his own to mature and find females of his own to start a family or Shabani would drive him out of the troop. This is why cooperation with other zoos is essential to move males around but it is said other countries take issue with the zoos there due to animal rights not meeting international standards so this is what you get as a result sadly.
@luvcats120 yes well it does seem that way though you can’t tell Shabani that he loves ai. I’m also not sure if returned interest matters in how a Silverback is coded to lead in any case. Maybe it would be different off BC and without nene but the females are also in their own unnatural situation. In the wild they choose the Silverback even some leaving to other troops along the way and daughters would also have the option to leave to avoid incest. Unfortunately humans have made them critically endangered so we do have to witness some sad situations. It can be tough.
