The original Shinobi is the best of the series IMO, as good as the sequels are. Shadow Dancer would probably be next. I think a lot of the game's defining qualities were lost when they dropped the rescue/collecting mechanism.
Sega was an editor and a producer. Vic Tokai (Columns), Westone (Wonder Boy), Novotrade/Apaloosa (Ecco The Dolphin), Technosoft, Genki, Visual Concept, Bizarre Creations, they were all contracted by Sega. Then you've got the CRI. Then you've got the inhouse level with the Team Shinobi (Skies of Arcadia) aka Overworks, Sega AM2 that did all the superscalers and 3D fighters, Hitmakers responsible for one hit really, Crazy Taxi, Sega AM4 must be Sims that made Panzer Dragoon and Jet Set Radio, Sega Rosso where Mizugushi started (Sega Rally) before created UAG and finally you've got the Sonic Team. Here you go. Sega for you.

The only 'Arcade-Perfect' I have is on the Astro-City-Mini! A brilliant version, beautifully upscaled to 720p! That said; I'm desperate to play it on my PC... Can you give me a few pointers? It was unusual but I was like "that's a great turn of phrase to use with those kinds of games, the ones that poorly imitate creative well-built games". It seemed totally apt to me.

Me again.. Ive edited this post soo many times....as i watch i have soo many comments to add. haha.. but just HAD to give a shout to Space Firebird.. My uncle worked on the cabinets and he had to fix a tabletop version of this.. amd OMG i lived round his house for about a week with unlimited plays.. One of.. if not the best arcade machine for me along with Terra cresta, pacman and in 1988 he was given an upright cabinet of bank panic..Not the most exciting game.. but hey.. free is free haha.. For many years these were my only acrade expeiences as i lived in north london and the only arcades i went to were miles away in Southendm central london or Heathrow airpot.. and being 10 at the time with 2 busy working parents i never got to go very often.. Still i had the faithful old Speccy to keep me busy..
To this day seeing Zaxxon alone makes me angry. Doesn't matter if you are on the C/PM CGA version or any other version I ever played, this game did 3d worse than a client of StarTrek on a VAX. Zaxxon was so bad that not being good at it was indicative of a superior taste in computer games. Of which theory Ms Justice here and me are indicative of. Check-mate breathatarians.

Thanks so much for putting this compilation together Kim! I just bought my son Taran who's only 19 months old his first game system. The 2023 version of the Sega Master System Evolution made here in Brazil by TecToy. He loves it. Doesn't quite have the eye hand coordination down yet but he does surprisingly better than I thought he would. Lol. He also enjoys watching your videos. He actually will sit and watch them from beginning to end. Keep up the great work! 🤘😎🤘

Awesome video! A small correction for Virtua Striker 2, it did come out on Dreamcast, the last update for the game called "Virtua Striker 2 Ver. 2000.1" has a Dreamcast port.
Radiant Silvergun also has the distinction of learning how to chain being absolutely necessary if you want to power up your weapons enough to have any kind of fighting chance in the later game. All kinds of chains and secrets and total boss destructions…it’s crazy the amount of effort it takes to get good
Man this is an amazing compilation, essential viewing. For anyone curious, Super Locomotive and Spatter were ported to the Mega Drive for the Mini 2. The standalone roms are floating around if you're keen. Both are quite good.

been going through old videos for when i'm doing other things and was completely blindsided by the sonic the fighters section. i don't understand the complaints about the graphics (this was sonic's first appearance in a game in 3d and am2 did an excellent job making it feel cartoony with the stretching and squishing of models) and the roster (this was 1996, there wasen't a huge amount of sonic characters, who else were they supposed to use?) also when you're out of barriers the game has a sidestep- beating virtua fighter 3 to the punch- so you do have defensive options when you have no barriers left. i get that the game might not be for you but calling it mindless trash is really over-the-top.
I don't get the love for golden axe. Tried playing all it's incarnations and the feedback is bad, the enemies are cheap, the level design is horrendous, the bosses can't be killed without cheesing it with magic. It's an objectively bad game.
SEGA might be the best ever video game company. I think I prefer it over such giants as Konami, Capcom, Data East, Taito, Nintendo, SNK and Tengen. Even though I love them all
