Quick challenge for my technique-focused rowers: You might notice something different about my shoulders in this sprint workout (and not a good thing!!) 👀 Can you spot it? Drop your observations below - let's see who has those eagle eyes! And remember - these sprints are all about YOUR effort. Push hard during those 20 seconds and the results will follow! 💪 Let me know how you get on with the workout! 🚣♂
First row after two days of eating too much over Christmas 😂. This was tough and struggled with the high stroke rate settling for 30 stroke rate but with good power.
Only managed to do the first 2 sets, with the sprint bits at 34 - 36 spm, and did the rest of the session at my normal 20 spm. Will try this one again next week, and try to increase the number of sets to three. Not an easy workout, but well worth persevering with. 👍👍
What's great, is that you now have a target. You know you could only manage two - so the target it to get to three, and then four. By the time you've got through this, you'll be ready for my proper sprint series!
Yeah - it seems like it's an easy one, but it sneaks up on you! Shoulder wasn't taped - could you see something? Shoulders were, however, not looking good!
@@rowalong It's hard to tell with the t-shirt but I thought there was something poking up on the right shoulder (there's no way someone could row with a dislocated shoulder so I thought tape). Your shoulders did seem stiffer for this workout--and your arms lower. I hope everything is ok!
@@SharleneMcKinnon Yeah, all is ok - apart from my technique though! Some weird roller coaster going on with my shoulders as I come into the catch and drive out again. Don't know where THAT came from!!
I like sprinting exercises, however, I have trouble with them. I can't generate a high stroke rate. Hence, my 100m result absolutely does not satisfy me. At 1 minute it is slightly better, as the result is = 374 m, but at a low SR=36. How do I raise the SR?
Higher stroke rates are all about getting the arms away smoothly and quickly - and with a good posture. The momentum from the arms away is what helps you return as you tilt forwards over your hips. If you tend to pull yourself forwards with the footstraps, or if you have a rolled back posture, it's a lot harder to get back quickly.

Whew thank you John. Great roar’in row after 4 1/2 hours of holiday driving 🚗🚗🚗.
Haha, it'll certainly ease off any stiffness!

Cardiac drift is very real on this one. 😢 That last set was hard. Is your shoulder taped?
