    This module is so underrated and not immediately obvious as to what it’s capable of. I too picked one up after the Ricky Tinez video and use it in loads of patches, even if just for minor CV variations. Great intro video!

      Thanks for the nice comment. It was on my radar before the Ricky video, but none of the demo's made any sense to me. Paired with a quantiser this module is instant free melodies. I went searching for something similar for triggers (i.e. random triggers with a few parameters to control) and ended on the Zularic Repetitor. These two together can make interesting tunes all day long.

    Thank you very much for this tutorial. 🤟 I lock forward to get my Mimetic.

      I'm sure you'll love it! I still have it in my case, no longer as a main sequencer but I use it regularly for stuff that only Mimetic can pull off.

    Just ordered mine as I love sequencers in Eurorack- have soft spot for Noise Engineering modules so good. This and Euclidian Circles are fun smaller sequencers

    I also got one after see the RT video and it’s now at the heart of my system!

      It is indeed a very handy tool. I think Ricky saw my video too as he insightfully hooked it up to a quantiser to make the most of it during improvisation sessions.

    Really great video, finally one that expalins the MD in great detail with a working demo. How do you pair this with the ZR? (you mentioned you do this ina dofferent comment) I have just bought a ZR so I'm curious. Thanks!

    • @briesmodular
      @briesmodular  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hey! I'd use MD for the pitch (with a steady clock) and then use ZR to trigger the envelopes for my vcas/filters and also to trigger my quantiser (where MD is going through). This way you can get really different melodies depending on the gate pattern. Have a look at my ZR demos, I use the technique in those videos. I still use ZR in a lot of patches.

    Great video, I also Saw Rickys video too, so now with his and your video I'm buying it tomorrow + the clep diaz :-)

    • @briesmodular
      @briesmodular  4 года назад

      I'm pretty sure you'll have a lot of fun with those two. Clep Diaz was in my modgrid mockup for months but I'm probably getting a modbox from wmd instead bc it's hard to beat 2 lfo's + sample and hold in a 6hp width.

    Hey there, loving the videos. A question for you if you don’t mind. I’m pretty new to this and wanted a little advice if that’s ok. I have the varigate 4+, intelijel scales, mimitec, and basimilus. In which order do you patch these modules for best results? I’ve been going varigate into scales, into mimitec, into basimilus. What’s your favoured approach? Cheers.

    • @briesmodular
      @briesmodular  4 года назад +1

      Varigate has a built-in quantiser (scale) so I would straight patch it to a volt/oct input. The mimetic goes into the quant and the quantised signal should go into a volt/oct input. If you use the varigate for triggers what you said makes more sense.

      Thanks for the reply. I’ve had it a few months now and keep finding new ways to interact with it. Recently I’ve been using the clep Diaz and a sample and hold in to the CV inputs and have been getting some really nice interesting results.

      @@briesmodular and to further build on that- I have a Euclidian Circles sequencer how would I best patch that with Mimetic and BIA with Cursus and Loquelic Iteritas?

    • @briesmodular
      @briesmodular  4 года назад

      @@GuitarsAndSynths I have neither of those modules so I couldn't tell you. Anything that produces rhythm could be used to either advance a sequence, clock an lfo, trigger a switch, open a vca, ... . Anything that sends out note cv's can be used to produce melody, modulate a vca, ... . I sometimes use a Steppy to produce 16th notes swing triggers and send those to the Zularic so it too swings it's rhythms. I use the Mimetic for melody, modulating parameters on a drum module or to offset a phase modulation. There's endless possibilities really.

  • @hugovillain

    If they had added a CV input to record melodies instead of a knob this would have been so much more interesting

    Love this. Overkill getting both the MD and Voltage Block? Really tempted by both.

    • @nndl_music
      @nndl_music 3 года назад +2

      no overkill at all as there is very little overlap. MD is more for musical/ melodic sequencing while Voltage Block is an amazing modulation source. So yes, obviously get both.

    cool video! one question, how do you sync the drum machine (volca beats?) to the modular?

    • @briesmodular
      @briesmodular  4 года назад

      I really couldn't tell you because I've never owned a volca. I bet there is some kind of sync in or out but I'm not sure how many ppqn they are. Korg sometimes uses weird standards like s-gate and Hertz/volt that don't work with other gear without some kind of conversion. You could always use the midi sync out and run in through a midi to clock interface. If none of this rings a bell you should check the manual. Good luck!

    • @drk3067
      @drk3067 4 года назад +2

      Volcas sends one clock pulse every two eurorack steps. Or it moves two steps for each clock pulse it receives.
      The best common way to sync Volcas with eurorack is clock divider/multiplier.
