The SD-1 just has so much more clarity and punch. The fractal emulation sounds dull by comparison. I have an SD-1 from the 80's. It's a great when I want a less refined sound than what I usually get from my TS-808 clones. Similar vibe but not as smooth sounding.
@@TheGooseChaseMusic Yeah you made it sound better than i ever could which makes me want to play with it again at some point. i do everything in the box these days as it makes editing and recording a bit easier. that being said i may start reamping to the sd1 pedal as part of my process.
I keep doing the same with the metal zone. I can get a good sound from it, but seldom use it. Since they are cheap and plentiful, when I need to get rid of something to make room for another pedal I really want, it's usually one of the first pedals to go... then I miss it and buy one again. I might use them for about a month then not touch it again for 2 years. 😂
It almost sounds like a leveling issue - the FM9's drive sounds quieter to me. Have to ask - did you level match? I assume that you did and what I'm hearing is the lower 'push' of the drive block
Just realised you answered another question just like this below ;-) Its almost like you have to raise the level on the modeler to match the pedal. I had the same thing with the Helix.
later in the video, I make adjustments to specific frequencies, and to the input trim on the amp model, and the volumes match. It's not just the level.
... Because it doesn't have as much of a push like I mentioned? You will add some volume with a higher output drive out front. When I made the adjustments to just the blocks, the volume ends up matching.

SD1 is such a great pedal. there's a reason i keep it around, but i still rarely use it 😂.
It's important to have references to know if a digital thing sounds off.
