    the only thing is, each amp isn't 2 channels. The red is whatever you set it to last, and the green is whatever you set it to last. So green can be a 'brown' setting while the red can be 'twin' setting.....or both red/green can be set to the same modeling with two different settings.

    also, one over-looked factory setting is the amp-type setting that you can choose. The default is the direct LINE signal, but there are like a dozen different amp-type settings that are optimal for whatever you're putting the audio signal into. For example, the INPUT/RETURN of a JC-120, or Katana, or 1x12 combp, 2x12 combo, 4x12 stack, etc. I haven't experimented with these much, but the option does exist beyond the direct line signal that is the default for audio interfaces, computer programs, a PA, etc.....this is all in the manual.

    • @coffeedudeguy
      @coffeedudeguy Год назад

      I’m guessing Direct is the one to use with acoustic IRs?

    • @Gutch220
      @Gutch220 Год назад

      @@coffeedudeguy I would guess so, but you can always experiment. I doubt it would be treated like a regular acoustic guitar since you're playing an electric guitar that is emulating an acoustic, so you could always adjust the pedal settings to your taste. The manual says for the default factory setting of the LINE signal: "use this setting when connecting to a PC audio interface, keyboard amp, mixer, or digital recorder"
      So you could leave it as the LINE signal, but if you were, lets say, using an acoustic IR into a JC-120's loop RETURN, you could choose this option on the IR-2 pedal. But if you were playing an acoustic IR into a console, or PA or something, you'd almost certainly just leave it as the direct LINE signal and adjust your sound in these devices.

    • @coffeedudeguy
      @coffeedudeguy Год назад

      @@Gutch220 I think I get it now. I'm thinking more along the lines of occasionally I would play an acoustic guitar through my main pedalboard, so I could just switch over to that mode using the IR-2 instead of having a another acoustic guitar pedal take up space on the board.
      Will have to try it out for sure, thanks!

      This has been confusing me, too. Is it the case that when you're in one sound (eg Brown) then you turn the knob to Tweed, you get Tweed then if you click the pedal you go back to Brown? So you are then switching between Brown and Tweed when you click the pedal. I find the manual a but confusing on this.

When not wanting to hear the cab at night if you have an effects loop you can run the send out for the signal to one of these IR cab pedals and pick your particular cab and then listen with headphones to the device works great. At that price-point, one $600 modeler blows my rig away at a literal fraction of the cost.
      If you went all mid-tier Boss pedals though, it might be more comparable but then you just have one set of pedals and a nice amount of amp models, whereas the HX stomp still gives you near-infinite numbers of combinations and access to effects you might not be able to afford as an analog pedal.

    i use a two-notes cab-m, which I find suits my needs. i use an origin effects ‘magma57’ as the preamp, and only the power amp and speaker sim/model in the two notes. i use their Fane speaker sim and EL34 tube model, i.e to emulate a hiwatt. i wish it was stereo - or more to the point, as it has two simulated mics, i wish each mic had a separate output (not even the new one they released a couple months ago has this!). does the boss pedal have an app that allows you to get into this sort of detail?

    Will this kill modelers? Maybe low-end ones. There is still a place for more complex rigs like axefx / helix / kemper and they do more. Plus, if you want a dedicated fx loop you'd need to spend more cash for the IR-200 and at that point you'd be better off just waiting for some variant of the hx stomp.

    • @Stefan-
      @Stefan- Год назад +3

      The IR-2 does have a built in stereo effect loop which is placed before the built in reverb . It is of course a fairly basic solution wjich cost only a small part of the ones you mentioned but if all you need is amp (toggle between two amps/IRs) and speaker emulation and reverb you could gig with just this small pedal even on a standard 9 volt battery and you can expand using the effect loop.

    Nice new entry in the modeler world, I'm sure it's gonna have its fans as it is very small, not very expensive and simple to use at home. For a bit more money and if you can live with a double boss sized pedal the HX Stomp remains the king in the tiny modeler world though, it's so many worlds apart from that thing it's not even funny. Flexibility, ease of use live, variety of tones, plus the fact that you have all the effects, the tuner etc just do yourself a favor and go straight to that, I love mine to death it's my only "amp" at home and serves as a backup, and the HX Effects has replaced almost all the effects on my pedalboard. This thing will be the end of nothing lol

      I mean, yea, but they're two totally different things. I have a Stomp and I love it, but it's for specific applications. I'm considering grabbing one of these IR-2's as well, to use in somewhat similar applications as I'm currently using a Simplifier. For instance, right now I have 2 FRFR cabs, and I either use them for stereo, or in conjunction with a tube amp (dry) in the center for a w/d/w configuration. When I run in stereo, I just run guitar straight into the HX Stomp, and use the balanced outs into the FRFR cabs.
      But when I really want the best tone possible, I go w/d/w with my pedalboard, which has very specific pedals routed in a very particular way. The HX Stomp simply would not work in this setup (I've tried everything. I was able to get somewhat close, but not entirely. Especially since I wan't to run my SDE3000 and micropitch for those 80s/EVH sounds). The best way is to run any dry pedals to front of tube amp, then line out of the tube amp into my stereo-wet pedals, which either end with, or are in the loop of, my Simplifier (currently), or something like this IR-2 from Boss. It'd be perfect, allow it to take my dry signal, but still have a proper cab sim before sending the wet L/R to FOH, PA, or FRFR cabs.

      I have a Stomp as well, and the main thing that keeps me from using it a lot is the interface and all the menu-diving. It's not what I would call convenient at all. So that's one thing that's very different about this pedal; it's super easy to use, which is a selling point for many. I understand, of course, that with all the complexity and flexibility the Stomp has, all that menu-diving is a requirement. It's just not the way I prefer to work usually.
      Anyway, I don't think Boss is trying to compete with a Stomp really.

    • @vmx23
      @vmx23 Год назад +1

      You are missing the point of the IR-2. It is for those who don’t want to lug around those stuff you listed. And you also said it yourself a lot of us already have those pedal in the first place so adding an IR-2 is a low cost way to get access to more tones.
      Purposely buying a GT-1000 despite already having all those pedals is what I call wasteful.

    • @Stefan-
      @Stefan- Год назад

      In that case a Boss GX-100 might be a better choice at almost half the price of a GT-1000 and it does a lot so if you are perhaps not using the fairly few extra features of the GT-1000 which many probably dont then you might not really notice a difference. The IR-2 is a different animal since its more for using as an amp emulation together with pedals, but it can also be an excellent small backup if you have limited needs.

    Guitar players need to understand this: Most of us need more practice and less boutique gear. This sounds fantastic, and If you have a good cab/FRFR it can do the work. And as always, eq pedals work and the audience will not notice a 3.5% difference in tones.

    I spent a few days with mine and sent it back. Not because it wasn't good. It does exactly what it promises. The headphone out is super convenient. Most models sounded good. I didn't care for a few of them but my Vox Tonelab LE sounded better and did almost everything the IR-2 does so it felt redundant to have it. If I didn't have the Vox, the Boss would be a great alternative. I'm really impressed by what Boss does in with such a small enclosure. I tried running the boss amp models with the cab turned off, using my tonelab with the pre-amp turned off and cab models on and it actually sounded better than either unit did on their own.
