I don't understand why anyone would vote for a person that "needs guardrails". Seems to me that if the character or tendencies of that candidate were so bad, probably shouldn't vote for them?

That is why he was never removed after two impeachments. You do not (if you want justice) use supporters - in this case political supporters; to pronounce a fair judgement, it just doesn't happen. Despite just re-swearing their oath of office to uphold the Constitution , they turned around and literally broke their oath and looked the other way.
