One of the best SAW tracks of the 80's. Very in keeping with the sound of their 87 productions, but Laura's vocal really gave it some quality and gravitas. Pity it flopped badly here in the UK and it's a shame she's no longer with us.
Laura was wonderful! Funny, hard-working and cared very much about others. View FOREVER YOUNG 1988 in Chile. She goes into the audience near the end. It highlights how much she loved people. Enjoy the peace and joy of Heaven Dear Laura.
On this day in 1987 {September 5th} Laura Branigan performed "Shattered Glass" on the ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'*... At the time the song was at position #90 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart, that was also it's tenth and final week on the chart, two weeks earlier it had peaked at #48 {for 1 week}... Between 1982 and 1990 the Brewster, NY native had thirteen records on the Hot Top 100 chart, three made the Top 10 with "Gloria" being her biggest hit, it peaked at #2 for 3 weeks in 1982, the first two weeks it was at #2, the #1 record was "Truly" by Lionel Richie, and for it's third week at #2, "Mickey" by Toni Basil was in the top spot, and "Gloria" spent well over a half-year on the Top 100 {36 weeks}... Besides "Gloria", her two other Top 10 records were "Solitaire" {#7 in 1983} and "Self Control" {#4 in 1984}... Sadly, Laura Branigan passed away on August 26th, 2004 at the young age of 52 {celebral aneurysm}... * The Sept. 5th, 1987 episode of 'Bandstand' was the final show to be aired on the ABC-TV network; it had a thirty year run on ABC and continued for three more years on the USA cable channel and in syndication...
I agree her voice makes this song special (it is no Self Control) and secondly the Stock Atiken Waterman production which i love most of the 80s. She is along with Donna Summer, Hazell Dean, Sonia and Lonnie Gordon the best female singers that ever did tracks with SAW in my opinion.
I don't know why this brilliant tune didn't go at least Top 10, think it only managed no.77 in the UK. One of Stock Aitken Waterman's finest. The 12" version is brilliant, a Pete Hammond masterpiece.
I was surprised it didn't go into the Billboard Top 10 here in the US. I bought the 45 when it was released. This was kind of a comeback song for Laura Branigan. It's so catchy and her vocals are so strong! As to why it didn't go into the top 10 escapes me?!?
Yea, Laura is one Hot looking 30 year old in this vid :) Don't worry there LowC, I remembered Laura's Birthday by launching the large Birthday rocket I built just for the occasion, it is now playing on my channel. I painted the fins CornFlower Blue, Laura's favorite color :) I love this song, it has been going thru my head now for 3 days! So I have the Touch album in my car CD player :) We Love You Laura! You are still the Greatest to us :-)
completely agree along with sandras 'everlasting love' and boy krazys 'thats what love can do' there are a good few pwl productions that flopped which shouldnt have.
This was the "Supermodels of the World 1987" pageant (Ford Supermodel of the Year, formerly Face of the 80s). That's why she had to lip-sync it. All Dick Clark Productions were lip-synced. It was more cost effective to him. Jerry Hall was the Hostess.
I will bet I WILL be getting the Fire Hose treatment from Laura at the Pearly gates :( Due to all our cover versions of Laura's great songs! Please note all you Branigan Fans out there, us "LEMons" are only trying to promote Laura's nice songs by getting them back onto RUclips the ONLY WAY we can at this point in time. Rest assured that we will remove most of our Laura songs when the real ones are allowed back here :-) Shattered Glass is a Rockin Song!!!!!!! 5 Starz*****
Great song by Laura!!! :) Yea, that bit at 1:01 there, if you think that wasn't just the result of a camera angle problem, you better lay off the Jamaican based product! Laura was a professional singer, she wouldn't risk BS over something like that on TV. You better watch out for a Brunnette Hottie, with a strange grin on her face like on the Hold Me album cover, when U are at the pearly gate! Beware, she may have a fire hose with your name on it, behind her back!!! :) We Love U Laura!
Laura's record company, Atlantic Records, really dropped the ball on this one. This track had the potential to go at least Top 10, if not higher, yet practically no promotional tour was arranged for Laura. The producers Stock, Aitken, Waterman were emerging on the music scene as THE team every artist wanted to work with. Again, Laura's management team and Atlantic Records totally bailed on her. Total waste of Laura's vast talents.
There's only one problem here. This was obviously lip-sync'ed. Watch her mouth movements and listen to the audio. They don't match. Not blaming her though, It was a Dick Clark production and everything he did was phony. Laura Branigan was still an awesome singer and a sad loss at such a young age.
RIP Laura Branigan and Dick Clark, two great entertainers who will never be forgotten.
...look at how Laura knows how to work the stage...Which is an art upon itself....
Me conmociona la voz de esta mujer gracias por todo lo que fuistes Q.E.P.D ❤😂💜🌈🇻🇪.04-09-2023
I always loved your powerful beautiful voice. R.I.P. Laura ,
No one on American Idol could even touch this!
I haven't this song for a long time. Ms. Branigan recorded some excellent pop and dance songs. Thanks for posting.

Such amazing woman! Wisdom in Entertainment industry, i'm so sad you passed away too young, we love you forever.

59-1.02, anyone else notice the hand movement? Still she can get away with anything cos she was just amazing and talented!
I played the Bass in her Shattered glass video
This was the "Supermodels of the World 1987" pageant (Ford Supermodel of the Year, formerly Face of the 80s). That's why she had to lip-sync it. All Dick Clark Productions were lip-synced. It was more cost effective to him. Jerry Hall was the Hostess.
Excellent signature walked
This was supposed to be her comeback hit on the pop charts, it never happened

Wow Laura

bizzybone951 renato.apucarana
Es una pena. Era una una gran cantante y persona, ademas, no tubo una vida tan buena y facil como pudiera parecer.
actually SAW produced 'the spirit of love' taken from her 'touch' LP a couple of eyars ago

TF1 ;)
where was this?
A modelo Pageant... N Laura the most beautiful in/out model-00bc-2099@dl/edekane and...máster singer
dont know l a warren seemed to do it betta more upbeat..xx
Just look at Madonna and Cyndi Lauper they were popular in 80s and Laura wasn't. I don't know why.
its not just dick clark, many televised shows lip-synch
Except the Grammys and American Music Awards in the US were artists sung live.
lol do ya really think that she did that knowingly ????????
makes ya wonder
Music sure went down the crapper in a hurry, didn't it?
TF1 :(
audio is alittle out of synch, try reposting.
It's a great song, but it sounds just like the original. So my guess is that it's lipsynched. But it's wonderfl anyway.
She should've sang it live instead of lip syncing.
love laura but this song belongs to elly warren
+iestyn smith Laura with SAW made it her song)

Ellie Warren original is much better
