The reason Makoto is like this in this episode is because he has zero fucks to give after being pissed on by the merchants guild, the school and Rona. He is a nice guy but he reached his limit.
Yeah, between Rona, the guild guy and the Goddess, Makoto already reached his limit, now they're going to have to deal with a much more serious Makoto now.

Well they all either used him in some way, or took him for a fool or abused his naiveté and him being too nice.
The build up has been there for a while that he was getting angrier and angrier at being disrespected and now part 2 of season 2 is basically all of the payoff from it.
I mean, last time he was too naive a hyuman killed one of his nicest people and a child (Kid Tomoe)... ain't no way he's gonna make the same mistake twice and let people step on him again.

Proof of this is that the whole reason for picking a fight with Makoto is because her feelings were hurt after receiving a beating earlier, when all Makoto did was defend himself after they attacked him just because.
Fun fact: in the novel, while Luto was watching this fight, They shifted into Female form and started m*sturb*ting.

In the original translation it says "majin" which means DEMON/DEVIL. But sorcerer is accurate too, depending on which kanji is used.
This episode could easily be called makoto flexing again and again😂😂

Makoto always had a cold blooded persona when it came to taking out the trash, this is just some of that sipping out…and this time he came prepared.
It's unfortunate the anime cut some of the earlier instances we get to see Makoto's vicious side in the WN. Like back when he had Tomoe and Mio deal with Mils Ace (the kidnapper guy in the first town before Tomoe and Mio nuked it), Makoto had them go because he didn't think he could resist straight up murdering Mils and his gang.
I mean, he teraformed an entire section of a land and permanently changed the geography of the land. Ofc he'd be known

Yeah his mana power armor may look goofy, but it's absurd. It's something only he can make because it takes a ridiculous amount of mana to compress and materialize it into a physical form. So on top of its defensive power, since it is mana in physical form it amplifies his magic power output.
What's even scarier, is that in the novel he describes its size as SLIGHTLY BIGGER than Io. So the anime has shrunk it down, for reasons. But just imagine, Makoto effectively has his own upgraded Susanoo. He's a BEAST
what's scary is that its this strong WHILE he is wearing 10 mana absorbing rings and a mana absorbing coat, this is basically him fighting while tying his own hands behind his back and he's not stressed at all
the thing though, it's not goofy in the novel at all, if anything, it's horrifying in the novel. It's described more like how sasuno looks like in naruto, and hovers/guards sasuke/madara
Sophia is dragon slayer and Makoto could be dragon layer if he only wanted(actually he doesn't need to want it, he just needs to put down his guard around Luto) XD
8:46 Fun fact: in WN it was translated as Devil. He was known as Devil which makes more sense than sorcerer since it describes only him and honestly sounds way cooler. And survivors of battle for stella fort believed he was sent there to punish hyumans(I'm referencing that guy Tomoe was questioning at the star lake) so theme of being devil also matches here.

Just saying, but the part about Devil is just a translation difference.
As the word "Majin" has different meaning depending on the Kanji used, which makes Sorcerer more accurate than Devil.
Other accurate translation would be "Genie" or "Superhuman".

Second, I don't think you are right. Even though majin can be translated as sorcerer what is important is meaning behind the word not the word itself. When people describe Makoto as majin they don't mean just magic user because that describes like half of the world's population. The meaning they are going for is closer to supernatural being or something similar. Man at the star lake Tomoe was questioning said that the sorcerer was sent to punish hyumans. He said "So when we stray from the right path, who admonishes and punishes us? That is his responsibility". This is what makes me think "Devil" is more fitting. In western culture the devil is the one who punishes sinners which is perfectly in line with quote I gave you. Also the devil is someone who opposes the god so in this case it also is very fitting. There is more things that makes me think it fits but they are skipped content and spoilers so I'm not writing them here.
Moreover after doing more research I found many sources translating majin as devil or evil spirit. Also from what I learned majin has two spellings. Both spellings first kanji is translated to demon/devil/supernatual/"evil spirit". If you are curious second kanji in one version means person and in other god/deity. I checked over 10 sources and among them there wasn't even a single one that would say something different. I mean there was some variation but devil/demon was probably the most common.
After learning this much I would say that sorcerer is 'I guess' type of translation. Unless we are talking about dnd kind of sorcerer. That would be more fitting than common definition of sorcerer as just someone who uses magic because in dnd sorcerer is someone who was born from some kind of mistical being.
I don't get why they switched Makoto's epithet to the"sorcerer", when his actual one is the "devil", which is much more intimadating and would make sense why people would be afraid of him and say he lives up to his title.
To be fair, Majin can be translated in several ways, but yeah, Sorcerer is objectively the lamest way to do it.

first of all that's no change in makoto vibe, it's just the true nature of him (psychopath). His parent actually teach makoto how to understand feeling better, that's when makoto first snap in season 1 after killing the human then he cry. So now when he used to "full concentrate" especially when fighting the true nature of him also came out too.
I would say sociopath (just no feelings) instead of psycho that has tendencies to destruction.

I think he just got a little confused with who she is. With their names both starting with H(Hibiki and Hasegawa) I see it happening since Hasegawa was only talked about a little bit in season one.

I've seen multiple reactors and non have made this mistake like he did and it isn't the only time Freshest made mistakes, many times he'll not play attention and start to act like a dog in heat whenever he sees sexy female characters yet can't pay a little attention I've said that to him before yet he keeps doing this and missing things and that's annoying.
The thing that changed him was the incident in his village where that nice orc died and many others got injured or also died (don't recall how many died) that made him change his view on things and not be so nice which is why he killed that girl the way he did and that changed him

In the context of Japanese language it was translated as Sorcerer, but if we talk about the actual term used and the context the word used by Sophia and Lancer is "Majin" which can have a few different meaning.
"Majin is the Japanese word for jinn and its literal meaning: a magical person. Majin may also refer to: Any magic-user especially a human, a demon, or a genie. Person who is enhanced or created by magic either a magician or not. Any deity especially a magic deity, a demon deity, or a superhuman deity." - A definition I got from google just to show the image brought up by the term.
Here Majin would be different than demons as it is used for non-demon people, it basically refer to an otherworldly magical person and with the connotation of being really strong on par with greater dragons who are about as strong as small deities basically (Basically falling into the magic and superhuman deity meaning).
Honestly I think Sorcerer was a poor translation with no actual good word to express the actual meaning of the word that wouldn't clash with another title or character.
So far the public don't know many people fitting the description.

"Majou" translates as Witch, "Ma" is short for Mahou and translates as Magic, "jou" is short for Shojou or Ojou and can mean Girl or Woman depending on the age obviously.
Makoto is being called "Majin" which by the same logic can be literally translated as Magic Man, however depending on how it is written it can also translate as Demon. "Majin", besides being translated as Sorcerer, can also be translated as Witcher, Warlock and etc.

- _Devil/Evil Spirit/Genie_ is "Ma-jin (魔神)"
- _Sorcerer/Genie/Magical SuperHuman_ is "Ma-jin (魔人)", and it's this Kanji they use for him in the LN & Manga.
Remember Mage is not his ultimate form, he's still learning what he can do. It's if he takes out a bow, then you know there is no escape.

I haven't read the novels, but this is just ONE interpretation. Have to imagine there are other ways to utilize what Makoto can do in terms of mana matter.

Pretty much Makoto literally went passed his boiling point. And it was a combination of multiple things, that put him over that. They are just finding out, how cruel and ruthless he can be in battle. When he's gone past a certain point.

Superior Dragons (Root/Tomoe/Lancer) don't have a sex.
I'm not sure if they said it when (s)he was first introduced but Root only recently started being male. Well, I'm pretty sure it was mentioned but I can't remember the whole conversation.
I know Tomoe asks Root, 'when did you start being a man' and during the reply I think Root mentions (s)he had a baby and some other stuff and says becoming a man was on a whim.
I think (s)he even offers to become a woman again for Makoto and they show an image of Root as a man and woman.
I'm pretty sure all of that is in the anime. Don't take my word for it though.
Having said all that, it's still...I don't care what's on the inside...you have an Adam's Apple and a man's hands....

Oh, the irony of Rona aggreeing that calling Makoto Ma-jin (basically "demon" or "demonic person", 魔人) is fitting because of how scary he is, while being Ma-zoku ("demon tribe", 魔族) herself.
I think you are confusing it with Ma-jin (魔神).
魔人 should basically be _Magic + Person_ , basically a Human with Magical Powers.

I don't get why they're translating Majin as Sorcerer if the real meaning is Devil or Demon and it makes it lose the impact of the word
Because no one gives translators episodes several weeks ahead, it's usually hours, so the safe term "sorcerer" which doesn't clash with "demon" the translator picked before turned out to be wrong. In such cases usually translation keeps old wrong thing instead of coming up with something more fitting (which may be fixed after season ends), because changing stuff would just sow confusion who did what etc etc. After all no one's rewatching all aired episodes each week.

Essentially it goes:
1. Makoto
2. Tomoe and Mio (minor difference in power)
3. Shiki
But Shiki has that staff... which can turn into a dragonslayer greatsword.
And Makoto had the detection kai up when he said that Shiki is stronger than Lancer... He was not speaking about the past, but about what he was perceiving in that precise moment.
