Been watching since the start of your channel, the quality of the videos have only gotten better! Love the approach to your videos mate, keep them coming legend 🤙🐟👏
Thanks mate, I’m glad you’re still enjoying them. I’ve been learning and growing with each video and I’m glad Its noticed when you guys sit down to check them out! It means a lot 🍻
Excellent episode what an epic pair that trout and bluey i target blueys on line cool to see their habits and how they behave under water thanks for sharing cheers 🎣👍
Thank you for the kind words. That's always the end goal with my vids, something easy to watch but still engaging. Hopefully I can keep improving each upload.
Keep up the quality work mate , been following for a few years now, probably one of my favourite spero channels, just a bloke that gets out there and gets it done, no frills no fluff just quality footage knocking off quality fish 👌🏼
Good job Kurt, great video. I love all the info you pass on. I've been keeping an eye on your content throughout, including your boat build, which was awesome. You have an eye for detail. Keep up the good work mate🙂🙂
Killing it at the moment Kurt 👌 Well done mate. Always look forward to your vids. I haven't given spearing a go yet but your vids definitely keep getting me closer. Cheers 🍻
That Fingermark schooling footage is absolutely insane mate, let alone the all the Tuskies turning to give you an epic shot opportunity! You're an animal haha love it, as always can't wait for the next one.
Love your work mate. I've been watching you boat build vids as i try to rebuild my old Mustang 1700. The spearing videos have definitely made me want to give it ago on the cairns coast 🍻
Thanks for checking the vids out mate, can definitely confirm the cairns region has some awesome spearfishing to be had out there! Check out the Cairns spearfishing club when you’re ready to take the plunge!
Thanks mate, there is definitely a different sense of achievement when your solo. I still get as much stoke out with other people. It’s just a different stoke! Always remember solo diving has its obvious risks, which you can only control to a certain level. Thanks heaps for checking the vid out 🍻
You got a new subscriber. I don't watch videos of people just showing themselves catching fish. I only watch videos where I can learn something and your video had that
That's awesome, thanks very much. I'm glad your getting something out of them, that's always been an important thing for me since starting this style of content. Thanks again!
Thanks for following along mate, I'm glad you still get something out of them after all this time! I'm loving the Haines I'm always itching to get back out there again!
Hi Kurt awesome video as always. Thanks for putting me onto the DJI Osmo action 4 my footage is so much clearer and better colour than the GoPro. What settings do you use to get the most out of it ?
Hey James, it’s been a great camera so far. I run 2.7k 50fps, 4:3 rather than 16:9 and trim to size/move around during editing. I also shoot in DLOG/raw and adjust colours while editing as well. I think that’s about it. Anything more specific let me know mate 🍻
I feel like I learn something from you every episode and I’ve been spearing a long time. Have never shot a finger mark so a print of one would be sweet! 😁
That’s awesome to hear! I believe you can learn something from almost any level of spearo. Even a beginner might have a tip or notice something you missed that could improve your own diving 👌🏼
Hey mate another awesome vid Been watching for just over a year and loving the behind scenes with the fish prints My fav episode is the Jewfish and black jewfish same day 😊
Thanks very much mate! I recon you’re confusing my vids with Tim McDonalds though, they landed a Black Jew and a Mulloway from the same location. Awesome vid!
Love your footage! That trout had some beautiful colour. I shot my first trout two weeks ago off Cairns (3 of them actually!) and I was stoked to tick them off my species list!
Thanks for checking it out mate, don't worry I didn't miss that finger. I just new there were bigger ones in that school! I didn't want to risk spooking the school by plugging one of the other fingers trying to identify as a Slatey haha.
Been watching the videos religiously mate. One of my favourite creators. Really cheering to see ya channel grow👌 At 8:28 is that a finger mark or two right in with the slateys within range?
Thanks so much for the kind words Todd. There were a couple smaller ones in the school of Slatey’s. I only had eyes on the bigger fish in the main school. I didn’t want to risk taking one of those and spooking the main school in the process. Good spotting 👌🏼
Great vid mate. I’m a lure fisho rather than a diver but you give some good clues to the fingermark riddle. They’re my unicorn but I’ll get there. I’m in the right areas by the looks. Cheers.
They are such a cool fish, they were amazing to watch as the school was moving through the water! So cool. Good luck getting one on lure mate, they are definitely worth the effort!
Thanks for checking the content out mate. That would definitely make things difficult, maybe a few shorter stints in the water to build your confidence back up?
Hey mate! Followed your build and love what you’ve done! I’m currently rebuilding a 17L. Its also to good see someone solo fishing as I do from time to time. (Your fish are so much better though 😂)
@ Cheers mate! Yea I had one sold it and got a surtees. It was a great boat but no sole. Within a year I got another one and started the big project. Can’t see myself getting rid of this one. Keep the videos coming mate. I’ve watched all the fishing shows on tv 🤣.
Are they nice big ones though? I’ve found another good school in a vid you will see in the coming months. Very different location, definitely not as good visibility but you will still be able to see the school well 👌🏼
Thanks very much Barry. A red would be sick, one of the Jack's I've printed for the giveaway I've done in a darker red. It's been a fun process mucking around with that stuff.
@ for sure! I love touching up paint and adding a little bit of flare, like the eye or a trout or spikes on a big mud crab! Another enjoyable moment of hunting and preserving a memorable catch!
@ExhaleAdventures thanks for filming it all, I tried filming once - just to have a record of it - and it really sucked haha never doing that again, I struggle enough just with diving.
It actually came in while I was unloaded and dealing with that first Tusky. I didn’t see it again. Over the 3 days I only saw another 1 which was a bit unusual.
@ I found your channel looking at Haines rebuilds. Have a v17r waiting for some love so when ya do head over one day she might be ready to take ya out. Some unreal diving here just not crazy different species you guys could choose from.
You could train it once or twice a week. I really think you can over do the whole dry static training stuff. But it definitely has its benefits. I recon that 1-2 times a week is good to keep things fresh 👌🏼
Hey mate! Fantastic video and loving the fiah prints, I have done a few myself and know how tricky they can be! I would love to know your tips on looking for ground for fingers and anything your looking for when in the water?
Thanks for checking the vid out! Biggest one is isolated rocks near some major structure. Sometimes just isolated structure on its own as well. We will look for big single rocks or Wrecks.
I've got a more detailed video coming up after the 3 day trip vids. I landed quite a big Black Jewfish and managed to get some good prints from it. I recorded a fair bit of the process on that one while I was doing it.
Thanks mate. No real dramas at all. One thing I would change, I recon I would fill those centre Chines in and move the two middle stringer's out an inch to pick up that extra space in fuel. As well as that I would have shortened up that bilge area, I recon those couple of changes would have given me the 320ltrs I was after rather than the 240-250ltrs I have atm.
Another great video Kurt curiosity question is it just an optical illusion do you sharpen your spear into almost a rounded point over a three edge point ?
Yeah I did this time. Still 3 flat sides just a little shorter. Last time I had a longer point like what comes from new, I hit a rock behind a fish and snapped the tip of it off. I figured I’ll try a shorter point and see what happens! Nothing bad yet, but I recon the sharper point will always be better for penetration.
My favourite has probably been the Sailfish you can see in the background of the vids. That was such a special fish and I recon it looks pretty cool. But honestly I’ve loved doing all of them!
Hey mate! Another great video! Don't take this the wrong way because I think you done an amazing job on your haines rebuild! But how come you mounted ya anchor winch on top of the deck instead of hidden away with a nice staino hawse pipe? Purely for the extra cabin space? I have a 17L and was gunna go under the deck!
Hey mate, thanks for checking the vid out! A couple of reasons, but the main one was space in the cabin. I raised the bunks in the cabin by about 100mm when I did them to increase storage space. This meant the original shelf height was a bit low and I wouldn’t have been able to slide my feet or head under it. Also my mate did the hawse pipe etc on his 565c and mounted the winch on the original shelf (beefed up) and had nothing but trouble with the rope/chain feeding on evenly. I think the distance from the hawse pipe to the winch was not enough for the rope to move left and right on the drum. I worked out the recommended distance etc and my winch would have nearly needed to sit on the bunk. I decided to just stick it up top, save some space and I can see it winding on etc. I’ve also got a mate with a centre console and the same winch up on the nose. I think it’s around 5 years old now, maybe older and it’s still going strong 👌🏼
@ExhaleAdventures Thanks for the reply! I knew you would of had a valid reason seeing how much time and effort you went to with everything else on the build! I may need to reconsider my choice if I am to go ahead with a winch!! Good luck with the bigger fingers mate took me and a few mates many years to find the big guys in our area! Be patient they will come! 👍🍻
Hey mate, another good video. Do you by chance run skarkbanz or anything of the sort? I do but always wonder if they actually work or it’s just false confidence 😂
Thanks mate, nah I don't. I'm not sure about the sharkbanz and how effective they are. Even if they just give you more confidence in the water, that in itself can play a massive part in deterring sharks.
It has taken a little while mate. The best thing by far is more diving! My breathe hold was actually a little better a few years back when I was diving a lot more than what I am at the moment. I’ve strung a few trips together more recently which has brought it back up a notch. I kind of relate it to training in the gym, if you stay consistent you can continue to make improvements. Slack off and you can loose progress!
Mean. Like your comment about the treatment of fish. The sooner you can get them into an ice slury and looked after the better. I hate seeing people throwing fish in bins and leaving them in the sun on the deck. Appreciate your videos - nice balance and action. (Please don't consider me for a gatku - NZ based).

That Fingermark schooling footage is absolutely insane mate, let alone the all the Tuskies turning to give you an epic shot opportunity! You're an animal haha love it, as always can't wait for the next one.
Swimming with the finger school was such an amazing experience. How goods a dumb tusky haha. Thanks for always watching and commenting mate!
Great vids Kurt, there’s no better sense of achievement than solo spearing or hunting very inspiring 👍👍
Thanks mate, there is definitely a different sense of achievement when your solo. I still get as much stoke out with other people. It’s just a different stoke! Always remember solo diving has its obvious risks, which you can only control to a certain level. Thanks heaps for checking the vid out 🍻

Hahaha, I know that feeling with Tuskies, and a few other species. They were definitely acting differently that day!
Unreal vis! Much nicer than the cold green water we get down south…
It was a pretty awesome day for coastal vis, we will only get a hand full of days that clean through the year along the coast here.
Wicked vid again! That closing clip is wicked.
You know the spot mate! It’s sick hey.
Living the dream Kurt, love your videos, I’ve been following for a few years now. All that hard work on the Haines is paying off now 🤙

Love the videos bro.. don't tell too many about the great diving in Mackay.. 😂😂
Thanks man, we have it pretty good around here that’s for sure.
Thanks mate much appreciated

@ haha what an idiot I am anyway will b still b watching
Love your footage! That trout had some beautiful colour. I shot my first trout two weeks ago off Cairns (3 of them actually!) and I was stoked to tick them off my species list!
That is awesome Jonathan. They are an amazing fish, so plentiful and extremely delicious!
@ExhaleAdventures I'll say! They went down a treat!
That underwater footage of the bluey is crystal clear 👌🏻
Got very lucky with the vid that day!
Good video mate! Missed a good finger hiding in amongst the slateys on the previous dive!
Thanks for checking it out mate, don't worry I didn't miss that finger. I just new there were bigger ones in that school! I didn't want to risk spooking the school by plugging one of the other fingers trying to identify as a Slatey haha.
Just had to watch this again to show my young fella the fish
He loves it
That's awesome mate. I'm glad the young fella gets something out of it as well!
Love the videos and keep doing what your doing it’s epic
Thanks very much mate 🍻
Another killer video mate! Wish the blueys in south east qld were as curious as the ones you saw 😂
Thanks Jake, they are definitely not always like that haha. Man they were dumb on that day.

Been watching the videos religiously mate. One of my favourite creators. Really cheering to see ya channel grow👌

Exhale uploads.... I stop everything and watch.
Posts like these still blow my mind. Thanks so much for checking the vids out!
Great job Kurt. Love the tuskies. We get them here in Hervey Bay & I’ve noticed the same thing. Very curious
Thanks for checking the vid out Reagen. Definitely makes them easier to shoot!
Awesome video mate 👌recently jumped on the sashimi trout train after one of your other vids 10/10 recommend every trip now
It’s goes alright hey! If you can find yourself a diamond trevally, they are next level 👌🏼

Hey mate, love the prints iv been doing some goyotaku on my own fish and loving it. Such a good way to remember meaningful catches
Thanks mate, I’ve really been enjoying the whole process. Such a cool keepsake thing hey!
I had a blast doing the gyotaku with you, cheers for the ideas
Like wise mate. I will definitely give the rice paper and ink a proper go in the future…..and I’ll get a stamp!
Great vid mate!....wish i didnt have a shark phobia would love to have a spearfish again
That’s awesome mate. I love the 17’s, I hope it’s all going well for you. It’s a big job it’s very rewarding!
@ Cheers mate! Yea I had one sold it and got a surtees. It was a great boat but no sole. Within a year I got another one and started the big project. Can’t see myself getting rid of this one. Keep the videos coming mate. I’ve watched all the fishing shows on tv 🤣.
I have only just found and bought home some fingermark after 10yrs of owning my boat. , you are absolutely right mate they are a bloody good fish
That’s awesome mate, hopefully now that you have them dialled in on one spot you keep finding them!
That's a great haul, you are gonna be eating well.
Thanks Craig, I’m glad you’re still enjoying the vids!
we really are the most blessed here in north qld mate, great fish, be safe
We certainly are mate, thanks for checking the vid out 🍻
Good fish mate 👌🏻
Thanks mate, it was a cracking day on the water 🍻
It's so cool to see fingermark in clean water. Up my way you shoot them in 1-2 m vis most of the time
Are they nice big ones though? I’ve found another good school in a vid you will see in the coming months. Very different location, definitely not as good visibility but you will still be able to see the school well 👌🏼
@@ExhaleAdventures Biggest I've picked up is 80cm. Most school size fish are around 60-70cm.
Nice framing of the gyotaku mate! I’ve done some red emperor and used red paint - came up a treat.
How's that vis man absolutely stunning, stoked for the next few eps.
Had an amazing couple of days out there mate. Really lucked out with the visibility!
@ExhaleAdventures thanks for filming it all, I tried filming once - just to have a record of it - and it really sucked haha never doing that again, I struggle enough just with diving.
Epic footage of that big fingermark school. I've never shot or eaten one yet
You are in for a treat when you get one. I recon they taste unreal!
Would’ve been a great bag with one of the Spanish Mack’s u seen to mate
Loved the episode ❤
It actually came in while I was unloaded and dealing with that first Tusky. I didn’t see it again. Over the 3 days I only saw another 1 which was a bit unusual.
Wicked vid mate, from a nz subscriber 🤙🏽
Awesome, I’ve got a few from over the ditch. Thanks for checking the vids out mate, I would love to get over that way for a dive one day!
@ I found your channel looking at Haines rebuilds. Have a v17r waiting for some love so when ya do head over one day she might be ready to take ya out. Some unreal diving here just not crazy different species you guys could choose from.
Great vid! How often would you train breath holding to improve time when getting in the water is good distance apart
You could train it once or twice a week. I really think you can over do the whole dry static training stuff. But it definitely has its benefits. I recon that 1-2 times a week is good to keep things fresh 👌🏼
Another quality vid mate 👌, did you use the go pro or DJI in this vid? Footage was very clear.
Thanks mate, that was the DJI footage. The water was pretty epic as well which helped out a lot. I’m loving editing the DJI footage though!
@ExhaleAdventures yeh nice, im starting to have issue after issue with the go pro's after seeing this think it might be time for a change 🤙
Awesome video love the big fingermark! Have you got some more details about the printing I'd love to print a big sydney kingfish!
I've got a more detailed video coming up after the 3 day trip vids. I landed quite a big Black Jewfish and managed to get some good prints from it. I recorded a fair bit of the process on that one while I was doing it.
Such a sic idea with the prints. Any dramas with boat since the refit things you would change?
Thanks mate. No real dramas at all. One thing I would change, I recon I would fill those centre Chines in and move the two middle stringer's out an inch to pick up that extra space in fuel. As well as that I would have shortened up that bilge area, I recon those couple of changes would have given me the 320ltrs I was after rather than the 240-250ltrs I have atm.

I figured I’ll try a shorter point and see what happens! Nothing bad yet, but I recon the sharper point will always be better for penetration.
Great vid, do you ever use berley to lure in those harder species like the finger mark?
Thanks mate, I have used burley for other species, not specifically for finger mark. I should give it a crack!
Hey bro love the vids, could u make a video explaining what pressure points are and how to find them iv always been curious
I’sounds good man, I’ll endeavour to explain myself a bit more in an upcoming vid
Great vids mate
Don’t need the fish print
Keep up the good work
No worries mate, thanks for tuning in, I’m glad your enjoying them 🍻
Great vid as usual Kurt. Question for ya, what is your favourite Gyotaku you’ve done so far and why?
My favourite has probably been the Sailfish you can see in the background of the vids. That was such a special fish and I recon it looks pretty cool. But honestly I’ve loved doing all of them!
@ epic mate, I’d imagine that would have been the hardest/most time consuming one as well haha
How's the flesh on that trout! Your Haines looks amazing in your vids. Love the channel mate keep up the great content. Yeow!
They are as delicious as they are pretty to look at! Thanks for the kind words, I've got plenty more in the pipe line!
@@ExhaleAdventures Hell yeah. Look forward to them!
Hey Kurt,
Did it take you long to increase your bread hold to get down long enough to stalk & spear ?
It has taken a little while mate. The best thing by far is more diving! My breathe hold was actually a little better a few years back when I was diving a lot more than what I am at the moment. I’ve strung a few trips together more recently which has brought it back up a notch. I kind of relate it to training in the gym, if you stay consistent you can continue to make improvements. Slack off and you can loose progress!
Hey mate are you still running the go pro or in this video have you changed to the dji, film looks cleaner and better colour contrast
This one I'm running the DJI and from here on the underwater footage will be DJI. I'm loving the change so far!
How come the schools of Slate bream I see are only filled up with Slate Bream hahah! Love the vids and the prints! 10:08
Thanks for tuning in mate. The Slatey’s can be a telltale for fingers if you’re sitting off a good pressure point!
Mean. Like your comment about the treatment of fish. The sooner you can get them into an ice slury and looked after the better. I hate seeing people throwing fish in bins and leaving them in the sun on the deck. Appreciate your videos - nice balance and action. (Please don't consider me for a gatku - NZ based).
Thanks very much mate! Every comment is in the running, even if it's over the ditch!
Nice one Curt, always quality videos and they just keep getting better
What would be your dream spearo destination?
I struggle to go past some of the reefs near Lizard island and just Lizard Island in general. I love that place!
@ExhaleAdventures haha agreed 👍🏼 I was lucky enough to work there doing cyclone rebuild works a few years ago, beautiful spot
