    I found your videos on HotDQ recently and I am about to start running an epic mashup campaign taking a lot of inspiration from your vids. This RoT series could not be more perfectly timed 😃

    I used the finding of the drakhorn as a strategic piece, explaining to the players through Makath that this would hamstring the cults ability to gather draconic allies in the final chapter.

    Cut the mission with Varim the white, combined him into the quest with Maccath and also made her the foremost scholar about the ancient dragon empire which crafted the masks when dragons last ruled- about to run it this weekend and your guides have given me a ton of useful tips on all the weird off-beats in the adventure - oh and I am making them fight Varim and the ANCIENT white dragon together as a boss fight (module has a adult dragon but I got carried away with an interlude in Baldurs Gate with a whole seige and raid since the party managed to mess up with the whole subtle approach in the first half of the campaign and raided a bunch of the cult cover businesses they were using to move gold…) I thought it was pretty stupid to make all the cult leaders irrelevant to the battle encounters, or have them already defeated by someone else

    Hey, my players will probably get to this point of the adventure soon. And to make Arauthator unique, I'm focusing on his relationship with Arveiaturace. If he wants her to be strong again with Maccath as her new rider, it means that he cares about her in some way. So I'm making this relation shows up a little bit more on the NPCs and if the fight happens and he gets wounded really bad, he will try to runaway talking about some eggs that are about to hatch.
    That's my
    thoughts about this encounter.

    Great and inspiratinal vid! I started a homebrew campaign which veered into the Rise of Tiamat adventure so this content is a great insporation! Can you give one more tip about the meaning of the Horn I can put into the campaign?

    Idea of how to make this chapter important. Have it so that the party doesn't know where the well of dragons is from the last module. They know it exists, but in the wide world of Toril, they have no idea of exactly where it is. You can explain this as the cultists who kept the maps showing where to go in Skyreach castle burning the maps and ending themselves before the party got to them when it became clear the castle was lost.
    So this means that when Macath the Crimson tells the players that the horn is being used to summon evil dragons to a single location, it becomes an opportunity. The cult is probably summoning the dragons to their main base of operations. We need to find out where that is. What if we either follow a summoned dragon to the Well of Dragons so we can tell everyone else where it is, or somehow befriend/ally/enslave a chromatic dragon and force it to lead us to the place where the horn is! This could also set up another chapter where the party has to go find a dragon to somehow get to help them! It could be really cool and help put more dragon encounters in the module that aren't just combat. Giving your players a chance to roleplay with one instead

      I might go with this, plus my players have both gotten themselves involved with a Homebrew Pirate Queen of mine, so it would make sense for them to pull a favor with her. Kinda a bit of a side quest.

    I am actually combining Tyranny of Dragons with Storm King Thunder....actually works well.....

      Nice! How exactly are you doing that?

    • @jctxcboy36
      @jctxcboy36 2 года назад

      @@LutesDice Basically I started with Tyranny of Dragons but instead of starting in Greenest, I started the initial dragon / bandit raid in Phandelin after this party just finished LMoP. The party, after rescuing Leosin and clearing the Hatchery are instructed to head to Triboar to locate the Monk and Frume for investigating the caravan and determine its location.
      The Triboar Giant attack will take place in Triboar per the STK adventure. The initial plot line is that the Cult of the Dragon has been planning this for months. They helped orchestrate the breaking of the Giant infrastructure which encourages their internal upheaval. So in essence, it is a grand conspiracy from the highest level with the Giant community to possibly misdirect the authorities from focusing on the Cult's activities. The teleportal rings per the Harpers can also assist the party in tracking down the caravan, investigate what is happening with the giants, etc. It is a regional problem for all of the factions....should be fun....loving the preparation for each session.

    I read this chapter last night during DM prep and I was left scratching my head as to why we were going here. Each mission seems to be go at bidding of council and fail. Not fun. I’m thinking Mccath doesn’t know where the horn is BUT knows of an artifact that can neutralize the horn when it is encountered. A side quest heist for artifact then much later in campaign player with said artifact gets the satisfaction of countering the horn in a satisfying way.
