  • A final farewell to the beast of machines or known as Tridents with Lothian Buses.
Saturday 09th March 2019 after about 20 years in service serving our streets of Edinburgh, the final day for the last five tridents spent it working on Route 19.

They will be dearly missed 😭 They served Edinburgh well. Goodbye Lothian's Tridents (1999-2019). Also, great video, really emotional.

All buses have a ‘life cycle’. For example most of the double decker buses used by Lothian today namely Wright Eclipse Gemini will likely be withdrawn in a few years and be replaced by newer buses.

Have you noticed modern/newer buses are being withdrawn earlier? The old Routemasters were the longest lasting buses ever so far. 6 decades. Couldn't it have been the same for the Plaxton President Dennis Tridents? Global Warming, Climate Change, Pollution! Screw you!

I worked for the company that built this vehicle for 27 yrs Northern Counties/Plaxtons until it’s closure in 2005. The Company would have been 100 yrs old this year 2019

You might catch them at the Seafield garage. They are being stored there until they have new owners.

@@Lewis25. Yes, they have the old 572. Lothian said that there may possibly be another preserved in madder and white.

Was 1999 the date of the first unit with later units being younger, or all units were made in 1999?

The Tridents came in 4 batches, Batch 1 was built in 1998, Batch 2 was built in 2001, Batch 3 was built in 2002, Batch 4 was built in 2004.

No, the only trident remaining in the fleet is 572, which has been preserved in the harlequin livery, with tartan seats. The rest are being sold.
