Hey Jim, great review! If you like the style of this Tuxedo check out the Terzuola designed 4" blade Camillus Cuda (original models from the late 90's now discontinued). The design similarities are uncanny (esp blade shape) and it has an award winning folding mechanism. I would even go as far as to say this knife is its spiritual successor! Cheers!

The ATCF is one of the finest folding tactical designs ever....and it is the original modern tactical folder if I’m not mistaken...Jim may touch on that
My first introduction to Bob Terzuola knives was the Massdrop X Terzuola in S35vn. They are actually still available on Amazon. As a pure user, it’s one of the most underrated knives I own. I carry and use it more than my CRKs and Shiros. It’s just a great working knife

Imma add this one to the collection when they eventually come back in stock. I just bought the new BRS barebones Bali and that sold out in a day as well. I always feel special knowing I snagged a knife that sold out that quick. The Protech Malibu was another special knife that I was able to get my hands on before they sold out in record time. Edit: 6 months later I now own the DLC coated tuxedo model and it looks even better with the black blade keeping that 2 tone look on the show side.
How do you buy automatic knives? Do you order them and then have them deliver to a dealer and then you pick it up at the dealer??

I just got the "Special Projects" carbon fiber LE. #10/50. It's seriously amazing.

They did the design (and your steel) justice. I believe the ATCF will sit comfortably as Protech’s number 2 seller quickly and hold it for a long time. If the Malibu weren’t so budget priced, I think this would dethrone it. I just recently received my first few billets of MagnaCut and got two knives off them already, and I’m impressed. Great job and Thank you for this massive contribution to the industry.

02:07 Pro-Tech were already well established, and well regarded by then. The ATAC isn't a continuous production model because it's complicated to make. Last production of that knife was a year or two ago. More likely than not, it will be back again at some point.
The only thing I don’t like about Protech is the factory edge is not sharp enough. I have purchased several, and the end result is always the same, I have to sharpen it. It’s not necessarily doll, but it could be much better. Sometimes the Grind is a little wonky as well. I love the way at fires and the quality is great. Other than it coming from the factory doll I love them. I will continue purchasing them, but it would be nice to not have to sharpen it when I get it.

I really like mine. I got one of the 50 Cf ones Protech dropped in their group too. Not sure if that is gonna go any further then the 50 they sold in the group or not but the CF one fires even harder then the tuxedo variation. I know I have seen somebody with a Damascus version too not sure if that one was a one off or what think it had abalone scales along with some Vegas Forge or Nichols whatever it was blade. I know the couple Protechs with Damascus I own I think are all Vegas Forge.

This knife fucks, hard! I am going to wait for the carbon fiber model. Tuxedo is not my thing.
I have #19 of this knife but mine have Bladeplay back and forth (button play) and from a knife that cost so much its a no go its so sad because I really like this knife but I hate it when a expensive knife have bladeplay
Definitely contact Protech for a replacement. It should be rock solid with zero play whatsoever.
Protech will make it right. Email them or join their Facebook group they are really active on there and they are dropping special group knives all the time. I have this and they dropped 50 with CF in the group I got one of those too. They should fix or replace it just have to contact them
Also, Magnacut is nowhere near S90v in edge retention. Its not even higher than M390/20cv

You’re right… mostly. And I shouldn’t have included S90v in there with such a blanket statement. The actuality is, according to Larrin, the additional toughness and smaller carbides allow for MagnaCut to be taken to a much finer edge, allowing it to be sharper without the risk of chipping or rolling the edge. The balance of both allows for MagnaCut to hold a sharper edge for longer because it is tougher. Due to the lack of what MagnaCut brings to the table, steels have always based edge retention on hardness alone. Now we have hardness AND toughness along with the ability to grind with better edge geometry to allow for a more effective, long term edge.

It kind of sucks when knives like this come out bc they don't make very many for awhile and the ones they do make usually just go out to RUclipsrs and reviewers and no regular person gets one. To be clear I'm not blaming any of the reviewers or RUclipsrs for this, if I was in there position and could get my hands on these blades then fuck yeah I would lol. I mean I know there are probably some in regular people's hands, but not many.
If I ever buy protech, it will be secondhand. For the simple fact of I don't care to give Commifornia any of my money!
At least they're still made in the United States which is better than China or a commie Country.
