    Hey Dan,
    Just wanted to say thanks for all your work here on RUclips! With your vba basics track I went from zero vba experience to completing a nasty project I've wanted to do for years in only a week! This video in particular was really helpful! Thanks man!

    Really great tutorial thanks. It was the closest thing I could find to what I was looking for.
    I created a budget spend tracker for employees in the company I work for. I have frozen cells to make sure they can’t edit stuff their not meant to, but I also wanted to hide the toolbar and spreadsheet tabs at the bottom. The only things I wanted the employees to see when they opened the file was all the cells and vertical scroll bars.
    I am convinced you can’t do this in excel, unless someone can tell me anything different.
    Thanks again

    As usual! Great tutorial ;) have you found a way of getting an icon/picture into the title bar of a userform? That'd be the icing on the cake for a VBA project! Does excel function 100% with the status set to not visible for example SQL connections and sheets population etc? If so then this is the way forward to developing a seemingly stand alone project.

I have a question though, Can I make the userform into something like a dashboard, where I display my graphs and charts and everything (with colour, images and formatting), and hide the raw data and calculation in the excel sheet to the background. Does this same method work?

    application.visible = false also prevents adding data to a worksheet while 'false'. The only workaround I found was entering data into a closed file or unhiding the application prior to data entry briefly.

    Hi Dan,This looks really good. However, I only want the workbook that is related to the user form to be hidden. When the user clicks submit to update the workbook, I want both the userform and the workbook to close. I also want to be able to see the workbook myself so that I can check progress and run statistics on the workbook. At no time should a user be able to see the workbook.

    Dan, great video! Thanks so much for sharing. However I've run into a bit of a problem: I've combined this "hide Excel" type of function with that of another one of your videos where the user can activate Print Preview from the userform. However, when I press my command button into which I've coded the print preview function (similarly to your checkbox enabling print preview), I get nothing and my userform locks up. I keep getting the "ding" noise regardless of where I click on the userform. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions on why this happens and/or how to fix it? Print Preview works fine in the debug mode, it's only when the workbook is hidden that it gives me the problem. Thanks in advance!

    • @ExcelVbaIsFun
      @ExcelVbaIsFun  10 лет назад +1

      Ben, thanks for the comments!
      Printpreview doesn't work well if Excel isn't active and if the userform isn't unloaded or at least hidden.
      Make sure that me.hide or unload me is used to get the focus off the userform. Secondly, you may have to do one or all of the following temporarily to show the print preview:
      application.visible=true
      YourWorksheetVariable.visible=true
      YourWorksheetVariable.select
      AND OF COURSE
      YourWorksheetVariable.printpreview
      Happy Coding!

    If I have multiple sheets in a workbook, can I control which sheet opens when I re-open my workbook? I have a specific sheet I wish it would default to. It has the main piece of information and the other sheets support the main sheet. (Hopefully this makes since. I have google'd this with no luck.)

    • @joep9617

      This is called a Workbook_Open event. You could also call a Workbook_Close event to set up the sheet prior to closing (in this way, if someone disables the macros upon opening, it will start where it left off). Leave it how you want it to be found ;-)
      **** "Make sure your Private Sub Workbook_Open() subroutine is pasted inside of the This Workbook object and NOT in a Module, Form, or Sheet object." Stackoverflow.com
      Open VBA editor
      Under the Project window, Double-click or Select "ThisWorkbook" and paste this code and edit as needed...
      Private Sub Workbook_Open()
      Worksheets("Sheet2").Activate 'select whatever sheet & cell ranges you want
      Range("B2").Select
      End Sub
      Private Sub Workbook_Beforeclose(cancel As Boolean)
      Application.DisplayAlerts = False
      Worksheets("Sheet2").Activate
      Range("B2").Select
      End Sub

      Hi Atikur,
      This is the inherent problem with doing this method. As you make mistakes like not adding a button to restore excel for your debug/programming purposes, you may need to force close the program in Task Manager, thus losing your progress (unless something was recently autosaved).

    Hey all. Anyone know how i can re-access my workbook having locked myself out. I had followed the video and set my userform to show right after the application went invisible then I put a "application.quit" in the queryclose sub all the close buttons on the userform fully quit excel and now I can't access the workbook to correct it. I had put an "unhide application" button on the form so i can unhide it but even thought i can see it behind the userform, i cant do anything with it. desperation here.....please help

    • @ExcelVbaIsFun

      you should be able to open your workbook with macros disabled if you hold the Shift key down before double clicking on your workbook to open it. if that doesn't work immediately and you don't want to shut down your computer, you could out of desperation go into file options and disable all macros and then reopen the file.
      Thanks

    I guess the reason people might thumbs down depends on what u put in your tags, because I understand what you intension was and its fine but, my seach was "hide database list excel" but your video showed up in the first ten, what I need is when I have a list of customers and I put in a custom search box which I already put in, is there a way to hide the list and only show the search box so that when you do a search the only thing that shows up is the results if any. Is there a way for that? vba not needed

I then open up Workbook 1 (with the auto hide excel feature added) it will also hide Workbook 2 and any other excel applications open. I also hijacked the X button on the userform to quit excel but i only want it to close Workbook 1 and leave workbook 2 visible (never hidden) if that makes sense?

    If the name of your workbook is "Book1", then
    1. to hide current wb:
    Windows("Book1").Hide
    2. to close it:
    Workbooks("Book1").Close

    Thanks. But the problem is that when starting Excel, it shows for a second before it hides, and that's what needs to be solved.

      Hi Mengxiong,
      Thanks for the comment! Sorry this was not zoomed/panned as well as more current videos. It was back in 2013 when I was getting started and mobile viewership was not as common as it is now. We all use tiny little screens these days. Fortunately, it was in HD, so hopefully you'll be able to glean what you need, my friend!
      Thanks
