Harold Lloyd in Feet First (1930) - The Climbing Scene, Part 1

- Опубликовано: 5 окт 2024
- This is a scene from Harold Lloyd's second talking picture. Having thrilled audiences with his death-defying climb in the 1923 silent film Safety Last, Lloyd decided to recreate the iconic moment, this time with sound. It's interesting to hear his various grunts, gasps and screams as he scales the skyscraper. Don't know about you, but the sound effects made it seem much more real - and much more frightening - to me. Silent or talking, this feat is amazing!
Hollywood often forgets the genius of its earliest stars.
Saw this as a kid, still giving me palpitations decades later, brilliant 👍🏻
It gave me palpitations even now
such a talent! Used to watch these at 70's from TV
Me too BBC2 6o'clock, willow-the-wisp would finish so.. turn it over for classics!
Still brilliant.
Wow.... my body parts get sucked into me every time I watch a Lloyd performance..... He generated such immediate audience empathy for the character every time. This guy was the best, so was his director and cameraman.

The way they filmed these films in the 1920s is absolutely amazing ....
I discovered this fellow comedian since December 2020.
Lot of preparation on the production side for sure, the makers must need to have arranged for Fire and medical emergency not to mention a safety net a few floors below to catch the fall just in case!
Such remarkable acting. My palms are wet and equally I’m laughing.
INCREDIBLY AMAZING,CONTUNDENT ACTION IN MOTION,GIVE ME VERTIGO,a sensation of whirling and loss of balance, associated particularly with looking down from a great height
I'd not heard of Harold Lloyd until recently. I discovered him here, on RUclips. This film was imaginative, well filmed, and very funny! 👍😂
I read about Harold Lloyd on Wikipedia. His accident to his hand. A fire at his massive house. His wife dying two years before him, and his son just months after him. Looking at these films, it's a wonder he made it to old age, dying from prostate cancer in 1971, when I was just nine years old!
RIP, Harold Lloyd. You were a brave and very funny man!
I always saw Harold in the silent comedies,so this is a treat to hear his voice.I read somewhere that actors from the silent era had their careers ruined in the talkies.John Gilbert for one.
This guy brings me out in cold sweats just watching this makes me feel scared for him falling and with the way they done film s then I would say harold done a lot of his own stunts
That too without any background music
In addition Harold lost some fingers on his right hand due to an accident and made his stunts with a prothese. This is really remarkable.
The athleticism men like Loyd and Keaton had was truly amazing.
That should be "The athleticism that men like...," fool! If you can't write proper English, then don't bother with it! 😠😠😠😠😠
@@dariowiter3078 The original message indeed was proper English.
This is nerve racking
How heck they done this no more.He was most amazing ever.
I think Harold looks adorable
So do I. He was such a cutie!
@@VaudevilleFanatic yes he is gorgeous 😍
I've seen pictures of Harold with his trademark glasses and without them. He looks more adorable with the glasses!
I think he is very handsome with or without his glasses, extremely gorgeous either way.The real Harold actually wore them in later life and was attractive right through in to old age!
Maravilloso💕😍🤭🤣
This Guy's are father's of comedy, they took risk just to see us entertained.
I laughed so hard that my stomach hurt and tears came out of my eyes!
😂🤣😂🤣😭😭😭😭
This should have millions of likes.
these stunt are super incredible, I doubt if anyone could do these stunts today
واييه بصح.
This is a pure genius 👏. Scares you to death!!! This comment was written by Gary
Who noticed a crew members hand gesturing on the right of the screen for the platform to be raised / lowered?
Harold Lloyd was amazing.
Northatlantic2012 and a bit like
Northatlantic2012
don't forget Buster Keaton
He certainly was! I've only just discovered him! What a man! 👍😂
Its a genius in silent as well as sound movies
Very clever movie-making. The backdrop shows the intersection of Broadway and 10th St (renamed Olympic Blvd in 1932) looking northeast. That "United Artists" theatre sign is still there today (20 Jan 2024). Theatre was built in 1927.
Бесподобно! 90 лет назад. У меня дыхание перехватывает. Просто нет слов! Браво!!!
Даа. А сейчас что? Паркуур, климбинг.. хахахаха! :D
Это открытие для меня...
Как его страхуют?
I'm sure i've seen a 20 minute silent version to this., but what a great athlete he was and he lost one of his thumbs.
Hell, yes! he certainly was almost as good or good as the great stone face.
I mean in terms of stuntwork and athleticism.
adrian ollivierre It was his hole hand from in a photo shoot
Oke
The film you're thinking of is Safety Last from 1923.
Oh!!!!!He is amazing
Descobri Harold a um bom tempo, curto ele, Chaplin e Burt Keaton, é impossível não apreciar um monte de vezes e dar risadas.

Realy Thatś amazing !
I just noticed that one of the men hauling the rope is James Finlayson, who appeared in many Laurel & Hardy films. I didn't realise he was in this movie.
I noticed that for years when watching this film of mr. lloyd's.

Phenomenal
Harold loyd era genio
I I laughed a lot watching this unbelievable movie, why aren’t they more moves made like the ones Harold Lloyd made ? He one of a kind ,
He sure did hen . Love and hugs from Scotland 🏴👍🏼🥰❤️♦️🍺🍺
Harold era fantástico. Nadie como él.
Those stunts are crazy. They make me dizzy just watching.
Somehow I prefer Harold in silent movies !
M
He is brilliant in both talkies and silent and he has a lovely voice
This was premiered in 1923 and revised in 1930 completed with sounds.
Except the United Artists Theatre in background was not there in ‘23.
Very nice in those old days,
I wonder how they shooted this in that time...👏👏
Did u mean shot? Or shooted?
@@kamalichilawrence6563 shot
I ever saw clip showing behind the scene for this....just a setting outside on a deck of some lower building for medium or close up shots...
Lloyd was in no danger at all. Watch "How special
effects were done in silent movies" for details.
Well, the effects sure were convincing! Amazing stuff! 👍😂
Do it then .
What about 4:09??
Instead of rattling on about trick shots and special effects Harold was a stunt performer and the same safety features are used by modern stuntman like Vic Armstrong today. This took nothing away from Harold's athletic skills and raw courage he displayed. Like Buster Keaton who broke his neck performing , Harold blew his fingers off with a prop bomb.He also pulled his shoulder during the clock scene.
somebody tell me how they shoot it? is that real scene on bulding or just shoot on front if big screen?
its real
Coelhinho Fufu people like you who pretend that were there in tje time of shooting hahaaaa..could be a air matress on the floor dum, can be a waist belt tigh with a invisible cable
wire during the shooting...back then people were smarter than you fo sure....😁
Set built on top of a building.
@@CesarOhnoLee ass hole
Everyone who saw that movie wondered the same thing (unless they had their heads up their ass).
Apparently there was no trick photography used. They made a structure on top of a tall building and shot the scenes there. Even if he fell it would only be a few feet, but it's convincing as the scenery in the background is all real. Amazing stuff, this guy was an innovator for sure. It hard to even watch, a blend of cringe and hilarity.
This film very funny loved it
So Nice. So beautiful...
Weird to hear his voice...
RIP Harold Lloyd (1893-1971)

Obra de arte.
They were doing an excellent job way back long ago by showing other tall buildings just behind where all of the action is being taped and doing there best to fool the audience 🇺🇸🎞️🎥
Not taped... filmed.
That's the way I thought they it would have been impossible for him to do that at the height on that building balance and concentration would have been unbelievable...
@@jamalmccoy4904 These were dummies that were set up on the roof of another high-rise building. From the camera perspective it looked way more dangerous than it was. Nevertheless, these are of course classic scenes.

Hi
Nice video
real action
It's simply amazing. He loses his foot and misses two hair falling on the sidewalk and / or in the street without any protection. He had to be very well paid to do such a dangerous and lethal scene. It borders on madness.

@@HardikBhansali Yes, I love silent movies a lot like Charlie Chaplain, Keaton and of post modern era of Rowan Atkinson known as Mr. Bean ....what a remarkable and Witty performers these were, even today they are still regarded and loved for as a master piece silent movies performances.
One of my favourites is Mary Pickford, Buster & Chaplin

Forget Tom Cruise: Harold Lloyd was the First! 🤓
insane genius ,, this movie ,, .
I don't know it's pretty well. but it awfully pales in comparison to the great safety last! filmed eight years earlier.
Anyone notice the hand on the lower right side of the screen giving directions for the work platform?
