    Please keep in mind that exceptionally few of these conditions can be diagnosed from JUST the chest X-ray. Basically anything that isn’t atelectasis, infection or pneumoperitoneum cannot be determined through the X-ray alone and needs further imaging or investigation.
    COPD and emphysema are basically identical on X-ray, masses need further imaging or biopsy to actually identify (metastatic disease is a differential for EVERY lung mass seen on CXR); and they are just a couple of examples…

      You have to hope that the radiographer has marked the image up correctly (here they labelled the right side with the marker in the top left), but you are correct to question it. Situs Inversus mirrors the abdominal organs too which is why the liver is on the left side, but it’s very uncommon. I’ve seen plenty of radiographers mistakenly flip their images but I haven’t seen any cases of situs inversus in my 6 years of radiography!

    #27 ,, how can I differentiate between pneumonia and pleural effusion on chest x-ray?!

    • @timtom1971
      @timtom1971 2 года назад +4

      Think ‘where is it?’ and ‘what is it’? Pneumonia is an infection of the LUNG tissue and pleural effusion is fluid in the PLEURAL SPACE which surrounds the lung. So pneumonia is a disease of the lung and pleural effusion is a disease of the pleura. They have very different radiographic findings and it’s best to look at lots of examples. Pneumonia causes lung opacification (whitening) in brief and pleural effusion shows blunting of the costophrenic angle and a meniscus (concave line) peripherally.

    Can somebody confirm or deny if breast cancer could be potentially seen on chest X-ray? I know it’s not the same as mammogram but would it show up on chest X-ray? Ty

    • @Med4VL
      @Med4VL  2 года назад

      Great question! A plain chest radiograph lacks sensitivity in detecting breast cancer and is not intended for that purpose. A normal x-ray cannot be used to rule out the presence of breast cancer.

    • @sadiegirl3011
      @sadiegirl3011 2 года назад +1

      @@Med4VL really appreciate the response. If I may ask one more question regarding that - so if a patient was getting chest X-ray to rule out any lung problem there would be no way the X-ray would “accidentally” pick up if the patient had anything concerning on the breast? Ty
