I never realized that so many people didn't know that silverfish were real
Neither did I! Glad they learned something new though.
It lives in rotten and old logs.
Sometimes in old books, eating it.
I have them on my room they eat my old notebooks and stuff.
can't blame the kids these days, when minecraft claimed they would "never make a mob in game based on a real life animal"
@@Femaiden kids deserves to learn with nature. Now they are getting ruined by social media.
Myself as well, wasting time watching RUclips videos.

Silverfish Like the dark...
I see why the stronghold is dark
Me with my lamp on: mom there’s a silverfish in my room.
Mom: 8th time this week.
Your insides don’t have a lamp
It's interesting that they eat the adhesive in bookbinding…
‥Considering that strongholds have the largest naturally spawning libraries in the entirety of Minecraft.
Just floored my mind.
You mean terrifying. As a book lover that is a literal literary nightmare.
Woodland mansions tend to have more bookshelves on average, and no silverfish can spawn there. (Only spiders)

If you see silver fish in your house then your house is either made out of cobblestone or there is silverfish spawner under your house
Well, gotta find that stronghold rq
I went my whole life without ever seeing one until 5 minutes go when like 100 scurried out from underneath the floor tile I was breaking in my basement. That was not fun
I wouldve died right then and there i saw one today and freaked out and thats why im watching these videos rn to get rid of them
They are such nasty things.
If you ever find yourself being questioned by an insurance agent after a house fire, just tell them that story. They'll understand.
Use fire. Killing them with fire prevents more from spawning.
I saw one went so some underground chamber's near a portal
I see these occasionally in my bathroom. What I find really weird about them is just how insubstantial they are. You squish them and you're just left with a faint wisp of silver. Their bodies just crumble entirely into nothing.
I find it odd too. They die without leaving a corpse...
Such is the way of the Garo
@@thx4chrckingin You can kind of tell that there’s a smashed body when you step on other arthropods, but, when you are on a silverfish, all you’ll see is whitish gray putty for the most part.

Whaha same here too i just found it in my room
GalaxyCats 55 lmao so true
Is it weird that I find them somewhat cute? It probably is considering I despise all other kinds of insects and arthropods.
But these guys I actually like for some reason. Sometimes, I even go out of my way to help them get out from the bathtub instead of drowning them, when I'm about to wash myself.
Maybe you were a silverfish in a past life?
It is legitimately cool that you go out of your way to help them, most people don't do that for any arthropod creatures.
Animal Fact Files speaking of saving other Athropods, one day, I saved a spider from the toilet, and it almost died. I'm so happy it survived.

crmXon不死 silverfish in minecraft looks like knockoff rats
In my favorite bathroom was a colony of these little guys living in the wall under a heater unit serving the adjacent bedroom; some were reddish, some silver, some mixed w/ the silver tending forward. They were easily nearly an inch long. The earlier population seemed to have a cephalothorax, w/ streamlined eyes fitted like the headlights of a 60s Fiat Spider, and would walk in arcing patterns, sweep a piece of floor, thru which it would proceed in a sweep to the opposite direction; the later separate-headed ones were more flexible in their behavior. The ancient 3-tailed configuration & corresponding very old & peaceful vibe made these among my favorite critters 💜.
Sadly, this didn’t tell me whether they go in your ears at night or not.
I believe they can since they are nocturnal
Lets not even bring that up!!
They won't, they're pretty much human shy and will mainly roam around on your walls, floors and ceilings at night. 😄
Thanks I hate it
@@Cy93 That didnt help at all
I find these little guys hanging around the walls or my bathroom sink from time to time. Sometimes I kill em and sometimes I just leave em there, cause if I'm gonna be perfectly honest, most of the time, they hardly move as much as a cockroach or spider would, so they don't bother me that much. Silverfish are chill.
Are they poisonous
@@cocoduck7745 No. However you should avoid eating or inhaling them especially if you find them in your shower drain or some other place that's likely to be filthy. Snorting powdered sewage probably isn't the best use of your time.
Anyhow, they aren't venomous at all nor are they poisonous. They don't have stinger or suitable proboscis to attack humans. They defend themselves by avoiding dangerous environments and their upper, silvery exoskeleton affords them a measure of protection against careless predators by virtue of being tough.
I tend to leave medium sized wolfies alone in my house because they eat these creepy things and I hate silverfish way more then spiders(depending on species). If the wolfie is big enough it gets evicted.
I can’t handle the big ones
I generally leave the spiders in my house alone. If they're getting big and strong, it means something that shouldn't be there is lurking.
It's the most popular one now! I feel special.
Been watching it climb the ranks. ;)
When I first discovered one of these in a old book in my parents garage I literally thought I was hallucinating because of the way they moved so uniquely.
I was having a massive heartbeat when I saw the suggester

Sliverfish: *I'm about to end this man's whole career*
I think they are beautiful, they move very gracefully and are harmless...unless you are a damp book. Just stay out of my house as there is much more to do outside than in a boring human home with giant feet stomping around.
It's awesome seeing someone appreciate insects. They don't always feel the love.
The Dollar Guy there not beautiful when your trying to poop in the middle of the night
They leave droppings, holes in clothing, and regularly having to remove them from ceilings makes them a nuisance.
The Dollar Guy I like silverfish too

Awww THEY HAVE LIL BEARDS lmao they are so cute.
I have quite a few in my home. Because they are so delicate, you can't just pick them up. When one ends up in my sink I hang a length of toilet paper over the edge so the silverfish can climb out.
They're pretty cool but they better stay out of my house! :O
They wont the silverfish are like I dont care.

Silverfish are a serious book collectors worst nightmare It’s kind of hard to replace a book that’s anywhere from 300 to 500 years old💯

Lots of silverfish in the Los Angeles area. They like to hang out on bookshelves and corners. Cute, fuzzy, harmless. When I was kid, I’d try to catch them and only end up with fingers full of silvery fluff.
Always wondered, if silverfish would make a good addition to a bioactive terrarium ?
Alongside isopods and springtails (of course).
Who knew they hate light
@James Patrick maybe it was those firebrats that was mentioned, warm spots… look similar,
This was recommended to me randomly right when I was thinking what those small, cute critters in my bathroom were. I like these small housepets, like green lacewings as well.
Glad you found us! Lacewings are really cool!
I don't recall ever seeing silverfish down here in South Florida. But I do remember seeing them as child, when I stayed with my father in Virginia and I also remember typically finding them in the bathtub or sink.

I found one of these on my pillow last night.. Needless to say I wasn't very excited 🥲
LOL Minecraft silverfish
Silverfish: WE WILL TAKE OVER THE WORLD
I pretty frequently find silverfish in my bathroom. And every time I say to myself, "looks like I'm near a stronghold" or "there must be a stronghold close by." It never fails to make me chuckle.
Instead of chuckle say chortle
SuBSoNiCxAURA said “just break the spawner lol”
Agreed, break the spawner and don’t mine any stone in the stronghold.
ANY ONE OF THEM COULD BE A SILVERFISH BLOCK
The f3 screen tells you if the block you're looking at is a silverfish block. They also take slightly longer to break. Also, standing on a silverfish block makes the silverfish come out.
Oh great, the Minecraft mob that I have nightmares about on a weekly basis actually exists
We used to get loads of them where I used to live. They seemed to like wooden stuff
Mojang: hostile mobs must be fantasy
Silverfish:
the "fish" in their name might be a reference to the fact they have scales. . .like a fish. but then again, moths and butterflies also have scales like that too
gotta thank minecraft for telling me the name of these little guys all these years ago. There has been more than one occurrence of me telling people "oh that's called a silverfish!" to look smart.
Finding them is rare around here, they're so cute I pick them up and let them outside.
I was so confused the first time I found a silverfish in Minecraft, they looked like mice or rats to me and I had such a crisis that I had to ask Google and also multiple people what a silverfish was to confirm that it is in fact a bug. Even then I still thought they just decided to make silverfish the in game name for rats.
So today I learned that those really are supposed to be bugs.
I wonder what outside is like
@@lilSenDog in minecraft or IRL?
They’re affected by bane of arthropods, so that’s one way to know that they’re not mammals if you’ve hypothetically never heard of their existence in real life.
I have silverfish in my bathroom all the time and because of this I can't store towels there. I also have to keep the light on 24/7 but they still come. I once had a big silverfish jump on my hand when I tried to grab the towel after showering and, well, I screamed and cried for like 30 minutes. After that - no more towels in there, so I have to keep the door open when I'm showering because I put a chair with the towel on it next to the bathroom. I also brush my teeth in the kitchen because I saw silverfish on my toothbrush when it was in my bathroom. And I've seen silverfish in my room - in a sock, on the ceiling, in a CANDLE, on my backpack, on my bed (that was the worst moment ever), on the wall and on the window sill (one at a time obviously, it's not like my room is fully infested). They also have eaten my wet tissues. I hate silverfish. I'm scared of them and it's always frustrating when I see one but it escapes too quickly. They're in my mom's bathroom too. I do clean and vacuum clean my room, we also get our apartment cleaned professionally twice a week. So idk why the silverfish are there - our apartment is pretty clean. Do you have any idea why they could be there? Because it started in my bathtub and then they apparently spread almost all over. But it's not like I see them everywhere, no, but it's still terrifying when I see like 2 of them daily or weekly.
Ugh. I can relate. I was stung by a scorpion hiding out in my bath towel. It's quite the vulnerable feeling. As for the silverfish, I am by no means an expert, but they probably like your bathroom specifically because of the moisture in there. I would also guess that they're living in other apartments around you as well, and that's giving them a place that may be less clean to find homes. It could also have to do with the construction of the building itself and its age. We live in a townhome and I see cockroaches (and crickets?!?!) pretty frequently - but our building was built in the 70s. The good news is that silverfish are generally harmless, though I can understand how that still doesn't help with the creepy crawly feeling they might give you. I've heard of people using cinnamon sticks around the places they find the silverfish, but I have no idea if that actually works. I hope you're able to figure things out soon! That's definitely a tough situation.
They are coming from the other apartments. That building is infested with them. It’s time to move.
I found one beside my door an it kept following me🤣I was shining the light it it face😂
I always found them fascinating to look at ngl, they don't disgust me and their smooth movement is mesmerising
So cute! I can't wait to see the next one in my bathroom

Don't really know anything about Minecraft but I love these little guys. I currently have an army of them. The common silverfish (Lepisma saccharina?) are my favourite. I love watching them groom. They curl up to groom their rear bristles like cats. And the light to dark metallic silver colouring is so pretty.
I appreciate arthropod appreciation in our comments section 😻 thank you!

As children we used to find these guys at school in plastic trays used to hold old books for storage within storage rooms or closets
Dang ‘ol Silverfish
They also eat mold and its spores, dead skin tissue, hair, dead bugs etc. They usually don't cause any harm, but if you have a lot of them it's a sign that there's most likely water damage near the area they congregate to so they're really useful in letting you know about that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I swear I have no idea where these can hide in my bathroom. New 3yo apartment, all bathroom furniture is hanhed in walls... And the space. Below the tub is not accessible. And yet I see one sometimes at 2am
Perhaps they're entering through tindalos doorways...

For some reason I mistakened them for springtails
These guys are often called springtails, as well! Springtails are "technically" slightly different, but they look really similar. ;)
The only time I've ever seen them is on a camping trip when we were putting the tents away to leave a bunch scurried away from under after taking them down
