    Thanks for taking the time to produce this video. I'm about to install one and this was very helpful. We're just going to heat the hot side of the kitchen sink because the "real" water heater is about 60 feet away and takes FOREVER to reach the sink - super wasteful. Finally, don't be discouraged by any negative comments - you're out there doing it while others are sitting in the cheap seats criticizing!

    WARNING: There are several mistakes in this installation, notably in the electrical side. I got less than three minutes into the video and saw so much wrong with plumbing and electrical that I stopped watching. For one thing, splices must be inside a junction box, not in the open and wrapped with electrician's tape. Plus, it is always a bad idea to have wiring under plumbing. This is a dangerously bad video.

    • @Voodoolawnmower714
      @Voodoolawnmower714 4 года назад +4

      Agreed. A disconnect switch is required. A 60 amp non-fused switch would also eliminated the flying splices seen here.

    The Rubber O-Ring is in the Blue & Red Caps that cover the in and out on the Water Heater our of the Box. You can see them @ 3:47 & the Pipe Dope Rector Seal @ 4:49

  • @mobridge100
    @mobridge100 5 лет назад +2

    These are compression fittings on the inlet and outlet. You need something inside the ferrule of the fitting for the fitting to seal. A 1" piece of 1/2" copper will do the trick then the supplied fittings can be used for a male 1/2" NPT to adapt what you want or just run 1/2" copper from the unit. Pre- sweat the runs needed before final connections to avoid heat transfer to the unit also.

    The connections on the inlet and outlet of the tank less water heater are point of failure connections. I think you have to take the PEX all the way to the water heater. I don't know much but I was told by a professional contractor that I shouldn't use faucet or toilet connections out of the water heater.

    Mine just stopped working while I was taking a shower. Went from hot to cold suddenly. What could be wrong?

    • @theMekanik
      @theMekanik  4 года назад

      How long have you have the had it?
      It is only powerful enough to run one fixture at a time. If you are taking a shower & you just put a load of laundry in the wash machine with a hot water setting, then you it will go cold, or if someone uses the hot water in a sink or runs the dish washer.
      If no one is using any other hot water points while you are taking a shower and it goes cold. Go turn the knob, the digital screen should light up when adjusting the water temp. If it doesn’t light up, turn the nearest hot water fixture on, then look at the box it should light up every time you have the hot water on. If it does not light up then check your circuit breaker or whatever fusing system you have.
      If the breaker is on, but you still do not have hot water. Use a multimeter to check power on your breaker before & after if you have power up to the breaker but no power on the connection after the breaker when it’s in the on position, then your breaker is bad ( make sure your breaker is not just tripped) so turn the breaker off and back on.
      If you have power before and after the breaker but still do not have hot water and or the light doesn’t turn on. Then you know there is a power issue in the water heater.
      I don’t recommend doing in box repair, it might just be cheaper to get another one all tho I do not see why it would have gone bad. If the unit has power & still no hot water 💧 there is an issue in the box.
      K, hope that helps, remember electricity will kill you be careful.

    • @theMekanik

    • @theMekanik
      @theMekanik  2 года назад +1

      They make 120V point of use that kan go under the sink, this is kinda big for use on just one fixture (a sink) I use this for the whole house it’s small but it does the job even in winter, you have to run heavy gauge wire to it which is Expensive. I have since put in a 20 Gallon 120V 2000 Watt Water Heater Tank. So if the power goes out I kan use a Small Generator to power everything in the house. Even the Washer/Dryer All In One is on 120Volt. The 20 Gallon Tank works fine if you want to take a 10 min shower…. This Tankless is good if you never want to run out of hot water. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻

      You can swap the temperature settings between Celsius & Fahrenheit, turn the system on & off, and have a precise amount of control over the temperature using the knob. It runs 220V so it is compatible with UK & US power.

    is the filter required?

    • @theMekanik
      @theMekanik  3 года назад +1

      No, there is no requirement fir ma filter but I wouldn’t run it with out one. It’s $34 for the filter & filter housing at Home Depot.
      Think of it as running your car without an oil filter or a fuel filter. It’s best to put one in.
      There is no requirement to put in flush out valves in BUT I would. I did manage to flush it with out the valves by disconnecting the 1/2 inch lines on the far side of the hoses. Then connecting them with to a 1/2 inch to 3/4 Garden hose fitting then connecting them to garden hoses. I did eventually get wash machine hoses and I did a first flush of 1 hours with 3 gallons of Cleaning vinegar from Wal Mart. Then emptied the Vinegar and ran CLR I think it was 1 pint it was thee smaller bottle of CLR then filed the water to above the pump and ran for 1 hour, that was actually after year of use with just filters & no flush. I did the flush because it wasn’t turning on anymore. The flush helped it. So I would recommend flushing it every 6 months fir 2 hours with 3 gallons of cleaning vinegar.

    • @theMekanik

      If it’s a non - conductive box but it is fine as is with turnies..... if I run another Heater in-line I will consider it or just running a straight run.
      How they build houses even today is not efficient nor practical. Everything should be Plug N Play, Portable & Modular. Even the Oil & Gas industry is going to this mentality...... Military has operated this way since existence..... China Builds Expandable Transportable House for 24K it’s actually modeled after a USA 🇺🇸 military living container.
      I am having to redo all the stuff in this domicile that is 20 years old.

      theMekanik this is an extremely dangerous install. Non-conductive box?? Yes they make them but installing those connections into a METAL junction box is more than adequate. That's why they have ground screws in them. You are obviously not a qualified electrician. Will it work this way?? Sure it will. Is it done correctly?? HELL NO! Quit making videos unless you know what the hell you are doing.

    • @theMekanik
      @theMekanik  4 года назад +1

      Mike Jackson it’s fine it doesn’t need a pressure relief valve it doesn’t have a tank. You make it sound like you are catching jets or dealing with pressures over 400 psi this is residential water going to a shower 🚿 50 psi -100 psi that’s less than a pneumatic wrench or nail gun 😅

      Freezing Winter this was the safest route & within budget to get hot water.
      Elektricsity should always be handled with utmost Kare.
      The leads are konnekted using solid metal turnies. They are specifikally designed for these types of applikation. The 3M Elektrikal Tape is liberally applied as an insulator. For safe measure the konnektion points are kept separate even tho they are insulated.
      I did ask advice from several electricians & plumbers all of which approved this method within the budget constraints.
      The parts I am using are new, not second hand, salvaged, or refurbished.
      The wires are connected using turnies, & the cable is is more than rated for indoor use.
      The connections points are wrapped in liberal amounts of 3M electrical tape & spaced apart in “ZERO” traffic area.
      The main supply lead is connected directly to a the service panel via a 60 amp Double Pull Breaker.
      The service panel Is manufacture by a reputable UL brand (Eaton) that is rated for 200 amps.
