I just discovered you on Mr.Pokke's account review. And with the way you talk with him, I knew you were really knowledgeable on the game, and you did not dissappoint. It was really easy to digest the concept of speed with how you explained in this video. The sub was never wasted, Thanks.
Glad that more people can share this side of team building to the community. With the knowledge about how the math work, the team building will be much more easy for people to understand. One simple example is running slow dps (easier to build and can get more attack since you don't need speed boot) + asta since she give speed on ult plus 4 piece hacker it will help bump up your dps and on the other hand running too much speed across your team puts you in diminishing return and therefore not worth the build difficulty increase. Great vids and as always great voice Edit for word choice
Hands down this video is the best guide on speed and action values. I've watched quite a few videos on this topic, and yours was the most well-explained one. Thank you for making it.
thank you. this is the only guide that was genuinely indepth and understandable for me. everyone else is splitting hairs over 160 vs 134 sparkle or whatever without really explaining why and what to do. and 160 is really unachievable for me with my relic luck lol
Actually if you use AV to boost your Sparkle forward you can achieve three turns on the first cycle with just 140.7 speed. Relic luck is not as important as understanding speed tuning and AV advance.
@@YASUOMURAMASA thanks for the advice. i managed to get to 160-something speed by forgoing a 4pc set on her. i went for a 2pc 2pc combo with better substats and it worked out. ill keep the 4pc hacker as a longterm goal but for now this is decent.
Great explanation. Thank you! I pre-farmed Sparkle for my QQ team and the only thing that was missing was 160.1 speed that was hyped from every corner of reddit discussions. I think I'm good for now with 156 speed and 200 CD and can prioritize maxing out my Quantum set for QQ.
In addition to your sweet voice being lovely to listen to, this was genuinely one of the best explanation videos to how speed and speed tuning works I’ve ever seen. Really great guide.
That was by far the best explanation on speed in HSR I've seen to date. I really needed those animated visuals in order to fully comprehend how it works, thanks a lot.
Wow legitimately the best video out there that explains the av and speed system that even laymans can understand. Most others out there do make it seem a bit too tryhardy and kinda makes me go eh i dont really need to know this this seems too minmaxxy for me ill just play the game, this video here actually succinctly explains the concept in a simple and intuitive way, what a great video. Hats off.
That was incredible condensed information for a new player like me. Even the more advanced speed buff stuff started to make sense and they were fed at a good point in the video. Great work
Awesome and informative video with a great voice to make for the perfect mix, this is the first video of yours that i saw but i got nothing but praise for you
I think you are one of the better cc's at explaining mechanics, thank you for explaining them so plainly and obviously that it's pretty easy to understand.
10/10 video. I think I may _fully_ understand the speed mechanic for the first time lol. I knew almost all of this but it can be hard to visualize at times when strategizing my builds. Your analogies alongside that chart for different cycle clears helped me A LOT.
I've watched many guides, not because i'm still learning the game, i just like it, and i love seeing so many creators spin on all these things. This is extremely well done, it's concise, simple, and very easily digestible. It felt less than a regular guide, and more of just listening to a friend explaining something about a game they love with how much i could focus onto your words. And that's what made me enjoy this alot. :) When I'm recommending a guide on speed, I'll for sure refer to yours now. :D
I was looking for Sparkle videos clicked on this heard your voice (which is the sweetest vioce I have ever heard) but stayed because of how well you explained everything. SUBSCRIBED!!
Just found this channel yesterday while being really sleepy, dont know what happened in the video, but i haven’t slept this good in a while cuz of the very soothing voice
as a casual player since day 1, i never really cared to learn how the AV system worked. for me, other vids are daunting and bombard you with numbers (yuck). but your visual aid of a 10000m track, and your soft and legible voice, was so helpful! thank you, my herta will benefit from this 😤🙏
Easily the best video I've seen on speed tuning. I always forget the action values and turn count per cycle. Bookmarked for the next time I forget again!
Thanks a lot for the chill explenation of speed, really helped a lot. Glad more players will be able to have an easier time speed tunning their teams. Will be waiting for more nice videos like this in the future.
Thanks for this video, I really needed to understand this topic more and I've always struggled with speed tuning but this way of explaining it makes it so simple to understand. You have my like and sub now, thank you very much! :)
This made me understand how speed works now. Im just playing the game and have no idea what is really going on. I just started playing the game and got sparkle. Thank you so much for this, and as always your voice is very soothing. Love lots Ms. Sweetily 🥰
I really didn't expect to go into this finally fully understanding how speed works. I always sorta understood it based on explanations, but these were really good analogies and visuals. It also helps understanding that speed isnt some.. magical stat that others act like it is, that will just gain you tons more turns automatically and tons more damage. That it's more nuanced, and more important in something like MOC. I think the way people talk about it being some god stat is partially due to not.. actually knowing how it works. I was especially confused when I was using Seele with Sparkle and noticing that sometimes she'd be bumped up and sometimes it would do nothing. But now i can see it clearly why. This is an incredibly useful video. Thank you for all of it. Really comfy and engaging to listen to too.
Holyyy shit i played a bronya/sparkle/blade comp right after watching this and for the first time in this entire game speed and action value *finally clicked, holy shit thank youuuu!* The AV numbers next to your characters are like little timers indicating how long you have to wait, and 10000/SPD is the total duration for each character's timer!! A character's turn isn't just the time while they're on screen and you're selecting their basic or skill, it's also the time in between! And I never understood how to make sense of the cycles in MoC until you described it like a coach with its *own action value that changes between turns* THANK YOUUUUU!!!!!!!!!! I feel so much more comfy playing star rail now, and playing w speed/action advance characters is so much more satisfying now that i actually know what they're doing. aksjfjfh this explanation should be in one of the menu tutorials for star rail it is so fucking precise and informative w the visuals you give
Thank you, I watched alot of other videos and still didn’t understand how it worked. I like how u took things slow and explained with a line graph helped me alot 😅
for almost a year, i found your explanation for Action Value & motion in the video is the best one to describe how Action Value and speed impact the turns in HSR. Thank you very much for the great content! I subscribed and looking forward for more great ones ahead!
This is a perfect representation of and IMO, the best way to visualize it and easiest to understand. I recently came up with the exact same method to better understand speed myself. It's good to see a guide with animation for this.
Fantastic video and very easy to understand. Sending this to the homies that don't know much about speed and action value so they can understand it too !!
Best HSR guide maker on youtube right here. Though I didn't know that until Pokke did account review. Glad I learned about this soft spoken gammer beast.
Thank you, very helpful. I never got into the particulars of speed, since things worked, but since I got Sparkle in 5 pulls (I *was* close to soft pity though), I decided to build her in a min-maxy way. Also, cute voice
Funnily enough I also used the same running track analogy to explain speed, action value and action advancements a few times :D The visualization definitely helps a lot here, great explanation video. You are also the first person I've seen so far, who (correctly) said that Hanabi's/Sparkle's speed isn't super important. Especially the 161 speed breakpoint that so many people believe to be important, is actually irrelevant in most cases, as you need to calculate with 5 cycles (10 cycles are the maximum to 3 star MoC floors, so 5 cycles per side) and the breakpoints for 5 cycles are 146 for 8 turns and 165 for 9 turns. One thing I'd like to add to the Seele section: The best, achievable breakpoints I found were 155 speed for Hanabi (or 146 if you use her with Vonwacq set) and 156 or more for Seele to get 12 turns within 5 cycles on Seele, of which 8 turns will be buffed by Hanabi (basically 4 extra turns, not including Resurgence procs). The reason why you need more speed than 146 without Vonwacq on Hanabi, if you play her with Seele, is because otherwise Hanabi's 8th skill wouldn't advance Seele far enough to overtake the "coach" to get her 12th turn.
I'm glad the visualization helped! One thing I did want to mention is that I believe the speed breakpoints for each side of MoC are a bit different than just checking the breakpoints for a normal 5 cycle, since each side now usually comes with 2 waves of monsters, and whenever the wave refreshes, we always get a 'slow coach' (the longer 150AV cycle). So the '5 cycles' we might take on one side isn't actually 5 cycles (150av 1st cycle, 100av the rest), it's more like 150av 1st cycle, 100av 2nd cycle ➜ we kill wave 1, coach slows down ➜ 150av 3rd cycle, 100av 4th cycle, 100av 5th cycle. So I found it more helpful to break down each side further as 2+3 or a 1+4 depending on how many cycles you think each 'wave' will take, and then checking the breakpoints for those combinations.
@@SweetilyVT Oh that’s interesting, I actually haven’t noticed this. I always thought that the cycle just gets reset, but with 100av unless it’s the very first one 🧐 Thanks for sharing, I’ll have to look into my speed tuning again and account for that.
Another great video, so well explained and the visual aids are very good! Appreciate all you do and the time and energy that goes into making stuff like this. Very fun how you're doing more yt stuff
Really helpful! This has been aggravating me so much, I can't even get good speed boots for my Jing Yuan. I'll just keep attack boots on him since I got lucky with Sparkle lol.
Thank you for explaining speed and AV in depth this definitely helps a lot! also your voice is so soothing to hear and I'd love to see more explanation vids like this in the future!
OMG, this was a really good explanation. I think the best explanation so far. I find this topic very confusing and I just gave up on trying to figure it out. I still find this topic hard but your explanation help made it clearer for me. Gonna bookmark your video since I will get Sparkle just before patch 2.1 Thankfully I lost my 50/50 early at 20+ to Gepard so I can guarantee get 90 tickets before 2.1 AND I will definitely need Sparkle coz my strongest unit is a E0S0 DHIL. With one side a 6 cycle hypercarry Sushang, my E0S0 Jingliu and E0S0 DHIL only have 4 cycle to clear the other side at stage 12! So need Sparkle!
Very well explained, especially with the visualizations. I think a big point of confusion many had/have, including me, is that people thought of Action Advance % as being the % of the character's *distance to the next turn*, or current Action value, rather than being the % of the total 'race track' or base Action value. This is what misleads people into exaggerating in their minds how much worse a 50% Action Advance really is relative to 100%.
Thank you so much for the guide Sweetily! I've known about how speed and action values work & now this reinforces my understanding even more! Also sometimes I forget about certain specifics & hv to revisit sites / blogpost / articles / videos, and it's a hassle cos my source references are spread out off multiple sites / videos. But now I know I can come here to get the whole summary and info, the tables and infographics makes it really easy to read too!
pretty good explanation on how speed works in hsr but i wanna add my 2 cents on the sparkle speed part. Technically, the 'optimal speed' part on sparkle only matters if you going for 0t moc clear and honestly the relic requirement is pretty high but that is going into the sweaty territory. For regular players i wouldnt worry too much about it and just build her as fast as possible
For the first time, i understood action values and speed in this game from this video. Ever since launch, i have been playing the game and watching guides to get the general idea of the mechanics of the game, and the only thing i know is that in order to have multiple turns in a cycle, i need to reach a certain speed value and yet i never knew why. Thank you for the explanation. The visuals helped a lot as well. I really appreciate you getting into AV and SPD before explaining sparkle's kit in relation to those mechanics.
I had a decent idea about speed and av from playing and building my chars plus the while bite out of chocolate insanity that went down on reddit, but this was the greatest teaching moment of them all. Just. Amazing. 10/10. ❤
Thank you for making such an easy to understand guide for players like us who digest better from moving visuals than plain text! The racetrack analogy is great, and now players don't have to overstress themselves getting 168spd, as long Sparkle>DPS speed with a bit of tuning
As someone who just started playing plus got Dan Heng IL and Sparkle, this is a very helpful video. The speed stuff in Star Rail has been confusing me as someone who doesn't play a lot of turn based games. So videos like this that explain the basic mechanics are really helpful Anyone have suggestions of other videos that explain the basic mechanics of the game? Explain them better than the in game tutorials do I should say
Thanks for all of your hard work..! I think it's easy to come into this game hearing a lot about speed, and i think people can get really caught up in and pidgeonhole themselves into chasing a specific speed number that, might not even do anything for them or the content they're doing / people feel a lot of fomo for not being able to reach a specific speed number (i think we've all seen a lot of people saying their xyz character is bad because it doesnt reach some number) and i think this is a great video that will help with that and tell people a lot about speed, and (even for experienced players) some of the implications about speed can be really confusing and the really clear visual guide to it is really great for helping people understand..! One of the other supporting points that i think people can mull a little over is that, for the vast majority of the players in the game, especially with the introduction of the more difficult moc12 and other difficult content to come following (and including) g&g conundrum and swarm disaster (shoutout to streamer she has great guides for both super easy to follow), is that a lot of the time what can actually matter isn't necessarily the cycle action speed breakpoint, but just, how much time you might have before a difficult boss casts their (or sometimes their second) large aoe teamwiping attack-the deer's flamboyant gore, true stings' swarm onslaught, argenti's aoe wipe, and more-and it's entirely possible that that specific cycle count speed number that people are worried about might not even change how many actions your character can get before the team falls apart-- and i think that for a lot of players it can just be so easy to worry about numbers that speedrunners / people that push for 0-1 cycle talk about when it really might not be that important for their clear (most of the time, people are just struggling their best to get their 10 cycle moc12 clear, after all ) Thanks again for all of your hard work!! really helpful video as always, I always appreciate it and enjoy listening~
No chocolate bar speed analogy...
Using the race track analogy and showing it visually with the animations is amazing, great guide again!

Great explanation and useful examples, thank you.
Ariel uploading again!! You love to see it.
Never cared about action value but listening to you makes it a bit more interesting
Your voice is so soothing to listen too ❤❤
Very well explained, especially with the visualizations.
How come i just find this channel.. Her voice is soo soothing.. much love ..
Thank you for the helpful guide Ily! Also loving the RUclips uploads recently
I liked the explanation method. well done, Great video.
This actually changes how i look at my plays
I had a decent idea about speed and av from playing and building my chars plus the while bite out of chocolate insanity that went down on reddit, but this was the greatest teaching moment of them all. Just. Amazing. 10/10. ❤
This was the perfect recommendation to get from the algorithm. Great video
So videos like this that explain the basic mechanics are really helpful
Anyone have suggestions of other videos that explain the basic mechanics of the game? Explain them better than the in game tutorials do I should say
I love the track analogy for action gauge thank you for that
Awesome explanations as always! Now if only I had Sparkle so I could make use of all this info... :D Guess it will help with Bronya lol
One of the other supporting points that i think people can mull a little over is that, for the vast majority of the players in the game, especially with the introduction of the more difficult moc12 and other difficult content to come following (and including) g&g conundrum and swarm disaster (shoutout to streamer she has great guides for both super easy to follow), is that a lot of the time what can actually matter isn't necessarily the cycle action speed breakpoint, but just, how much time you might have before a difficult boss casts their (or sometimes their second) large aoe teamwiping attack-the deer's flamboyant gore, true stings' swarm onslaught, argenti's aoe wipe, and more-and it's entirely possible that that specific cycle count speed number that people are worried about might not even change how many actions your character can get before the team falls apart-- and i think that for a lot of players it can just be so easy to worry about numbers that speedrunners / people that push for 0-1 cycle talk about when it really might not be that important for their clear (most of the time, people are just struggling their best to get their 10 cycle moc12 clear, after all )
Thanks again for all of your hard work!! really helpful video as always, I always appreciate it and enjoy listening~
this is a good video i finally understand about speed. thank you for posting this video. also pretty voice!!
