I found this to be totally inspiring.
Considering the country and it's history I guess I shouldn't be surprised that such good Art would come from it's questioning and angst.

I agree 100%. There are so many aspects which make this scene so interesting, no wonder it is delivering such terrific artists. Thank you for tuning in!

Thank you for an informative piece - great channel. Not so sure about the habit of ranking artists though!

Hi there Chris, thank you for tuning in and for the kind words. Ranking artists may seem a bit strange indeed, but it offers as great insight to analyze the landscape of contemporary art, where the canon of artists hasn't been written yet. Not the ranking but rather the selection is crucial in my opinion.

Adrien Ghenie ........I get a real Francis bacon feel from his work. Does anyone get that as well? I get it from the imagery and from the colour of the paint.

    • @nostalgic324

Yeah I noticed that, I think is the style of the shapes/ outlines.
To me it's Francis Bacon meets Salvador Dali. Love it!

Great comment. I agree 100%. In the S.M.A.K. museum in Ghent, there was a show with a pope portrait by Francis Bacon and a self portrait by Ghenie. They both gave the shivers in a very similar way. There is a certain violence in it, but it not 'aggressive', rather genuine.

@@contemporaryartissue I can see it but I didn't want to make that comparison. Something in the dissolving of form whereas one to me is rather aggressive or abrasive and the other more organic and seemingly soluble.

All the names are badly mispronounced. I get the language differences, but I think the producers should pay attention to the names of the artists.

My apologies, we have tried but with the AI voice it was almost impossible as the English language does not have all the 'sounds' Romanians use. In any case, thank you for tuning in!

So did Ciprian Muresan copy Maurizio Cattelan's pope or is it the other way around. 🤔

    • @contemporaryartissue
      @contemporaryartissue  2 года назад +2

Great question! It is in fact a very direct reinterpretation of Cattelan's work

Great list. Thank you! But as a Romanian, my ears hurt when I hear you pronounce the words. I bet wikipedia has the pronunciations of these names. Maybe next time you check it. :D

you would think by the nature of your videos (all) that all of the best and most relevant artists are either European or of European descent. not that these artists aren't great because they are, but there are many great artists of variety shades of colors and ethnicities around the world. so I find your take as one spec that negates the rest of a much larger canvas.

Dear Ojay, thank you for tuning in. I must say we do our very best to provide a wide scope on art across the globe. We are active in the Western world, so of course in a way our content will be rather Eurocentric. But Cluj is in fact not a well-known art scene, we have also created videos on African art, or Chinese art. So we're doing our very best but there simply is a lot of ground to cover.

So sad that this list is dominated by man's works. There's so many woman artists doing wonderful and relevant works all over this world, I'm sure in Romania there's so many. Btw Hortensia's works seemed more impactful than Adrian's, puted here on the 1fst place

I do apologise for the slighlty bully-ish reply to this, but i'm a bit fed up with this narrative. You could just stop being hateful and divisive. Leave feminism, intersectionality, identitarianism and other hate movements out of this x
