The battery will need replacing as you said Johnny, the cold climate will be extra hard on the car but if you are proactive with the maintenance it should go ok, set cash aside and overhaul the parts known to cause issues to give yourself peace of mind.
Had a 2014 Porsche Cayenne and sold it after 3 years because it was more at the mechanics than me driving it... will never buy another one. Thanks. I now own a 2017 Nissan XTerra and so far not one problem, only maintenance and..I love it!
Most people know that batteries need to be replaced. Seven years old means it is time to replace it, especially in the Winter! Fortunately, his mechanic finally got him to get a new one.
Life in the day of a Porsche owner. All caviar and maintenance 😅. Sauna is always welcomed though, have to buy one for my house. Hope you and your friends stay safe, glad to see the updates.
Johnny, as a fellow Cayenne owner (2005 Cayenne S 955) I can sympathize with some of the issues you are having with this model Porsche, which BTW, are not at all uncommon. IMHO, even with a brand new AGM battery (great choice BTW), you should get in the habit, whenever possible, to put the Cayenne on a trickle charger. Trust me, you'll sleep better. I use the "Battery Tender" by Deltran, it's the 4.5 AMP Battery Charger and Maintainer that is specified to use with AGM/Flooded and also Lithium (LiFeP04) batteries. Great product and highly recommended. Good luck with you Cayenne and be safe. Wish I could find a Porsche mechanic here in the states willing to work for $25 an hour! BTW, Love the channel.
Johnny, good job! I was going to type a message that you need to first charge up the battery to fully test it and only replace if needed. I am glad thats how it turned out. I just went through this with my car a BMW 540i V8. Big complex car like yours. My battery is in the truck. I've been through about 3 batteries so far in the 12 years I've owned the car. I am in Canada. Similar weather. I opted for AGM this time around because for the added cost you get a lot more robustness which is important in cold weather. Good job on getting everything taken care of on the car. You will be back however! Cars are machines and they wear out like anything else... enjoy! Slava Ukraine!
If theres junk yards near by, and theres a part you cant order. You can always call them up and usually they will have what you need for cheap. its been hard here finding parts for cheap since covid, so thats my go to now.
I got so excited when your car started. It's good that you got the new battery. It's expensive but like you said you need a dependable source of transportation. Wishing you a wonderful, Happy, Healthy New Year!
If your battery goes dead after the car sits for a few days you'll need to find out what is causing the draw and fix it. As a work around you can continue to disconnect the negative lead until you fix the power draw issue, which should be done.
Batteries go bad! AGM are better and expect many years of no problems. My Prius used an EXPENSIVE AGM and needed replacement. It is Winter when your battery fails to perform. Good that you took care of your car!
You managed to start the car because you waited for a while while there was very little consumption from the instruments, such as indicator lights from the dashboard, etc. This heats up the battery and makes it more productive.
OMG, Johnny's throwing a party !!!!! you finally bit the bullet and bought a bloody new Battery, Your old Battery is an AGM as you saw and isn't that old. ask that garage to charge it over night for you and it will be as good as new, or buy the same charging set up as the Garage has got (with an extention lead), it's not expensive. DON'T THROW THE OLD BATTERY AWAY, there is nothing wrong with it, it just needs charging overnight. And when you've charged it properly you can sell it and get some of your money back. Wow your car looks brand new after the wash and for $8, cheap as chips. Awesome content as always big man, stay safe SLAVA UKRAINI
Hey Johnny., another great video. Quick question - intrigued as to how and why you've chosen a Cayenne as your vehicle of choice? Best thing you can do to prolong the life of your new battery - get yourself (even a cheap) solar trickle charger, will make a colossal difference. Good luck mate, all the best.
Was in Ecuador some time back remember some one saying, "If you want to drive into the jungle take a land rover. If you want to drive out of the jungle take a Toyota.".
Johnny if you are keeping the Porsche to leave in an emergency, Unfortunately I don’t believe you’ll get far due to others having the same idea. If you really want something to be able to leave if/when the shit hits the fan buy an enduro dirt bike. If your unfamiliar they are just like regular dirt bikes but have turn signals a windshield & oversized gas tank and the ability to go on & off road. Idk what the dirt bike market is like in Ukraine but if you really want to be able to go that’s the only vehicle I’d bet would make it in any acceptable amount of time.
Found this online - AGM batteries perform much better in low temperature environments than flooded lead acid batteries do. For starters, AGM batteries typically have higher CCA ratings than a flooded lead acid battery. They also have a slower discharge rate than lead acid options, meaning they do a better job of holding a charge.
By the way, before the invasion of Russia, there were 3.8 million active mobile phones in Kyiv. In March 2022, about 1 million. Now there are 3.6 millions mobile phones, the roads are clogged with cars. The mayor of Kyiv said this today.
Hyundai no way. Possibly a Citroen. A mechanic told me they are good, decent cars. Your car looks great! Professional work takes time. In USA, it would be $45-65.
The car is looking great Johnny. If you ask the car detailers to give it a ceramic coating next time it will stay cleaner for longer, as the dirt won't stick to it so easily.
Good decision to get a new battery, my brother is a mechanic and he always says once your having to jump start and get a new starter motor then a new battery is needed.

Johnny get yourself a portable battery jump booster from ebay that you charge it up in your apt outlet and then plug into your car cigarette lighter or unto your battery terminal. That should work fine.
Buy a quality new battery like at Bosh Jonny. That will fix it but not long term as you got to use the car regular. The winters are hard on car batteries especially in Kiev where the winters are very cold. A friend of mine had a car in London and always had problems because they never used the car much. If you don’t use it you will lose it. The Cayenne is a awsome car but maybe if you got good money for it maybe better to sell it.
Frozen Battery. Make sure to tighten the ground nut or your starter will not get full current. Also battery will not charge at full current. You need a battery warmer.
Bad starter motors are a common problem on these Cayennes aswell, I replaced mine a few years ago. Unfortunately Porsche engineers placed the starter motor in between the cylinder heads under the intake manifold so in order to replace the starter the intake has to come off, aswell as some fuel injector pipes but its only a few hours job. I bought a new Bosch starter and the total price was 800€ in Sweden.
Most newer cars have anti-theft systems built in. When you disconnect the battery it triggers the anti-theft system. You have to wait a period of time before the car will start.
German car is a high maintenance and expensive to maintain. Jonny, even you have a new battery installed and you don't maintain your charge or drive once a week or so. The new battery will drain its energy and will go bad again in 2 to 3 years. You need to buy a car battery tender device to plug to maintain the charge. but, you live in the apartment. people might steal it. So, the only solution to maintain the charge of battery is to drive once or twice a week.
All that work starter, headlight, plug and all for 700 + is super cheap especially for a Porsche. It is a great idea to wash the car especially with all the rock salt , that stuff eats away car frames. And for what that guy did here where I am from easily 250-300 dollars
As for car batteries, you can buy one if you ever take a trip to say Przemyśl or Rzeszów, Poland or Nyiregyhaza, Hungary, etc, the nearest European Union cities. Or you can ask a Ukrainian friend, or a foreigner who is helping and travels these routes. Unlike generators which are in short supply (or at least expensive) all around Europe due to panic buying, car batteries beyond the border cost the regular price and are available everywhere
Thought you got a fair and decent price for the repairs. Here in the Midwest USA it cost almost a hundred dollars just for a oil change and tire rotation for our Honda. But owning a car is like taking care of your body they break down without maintenance. And the car wash to have a car washed and detailed is at least two hundred. That is why most people just wash their own cars. Yours is a beaut all cleaned up!

JOHNNY the car battery is just low. You need a to buy a Jumper one, then let the alternator do the job by driving it around. The kind the service guy used on the car last time it needed a jump. Make sure that ground cable is tight.
Order a load from Norway (free shipping!!!) ;) Porsche all have unreliable engines. not worth wasting the money on them, buy a cheaper car. Antifreeze should be neat (good to -40).
Sorry for the car troubles Johnny😂Japanese is the way to go my friend...hehehe...I drive a little Mazda, they go forever and cheap to fix. For Ukrainian roads and weather Subaru Forester or Mitsubishi RVR. Cheers!!!! 💙💛❤
Also for the used cars there I would get the cheap BMW since they don't sell that model in the US. That Volvo would give you more headaches than the Porsche for sure. The Hyundais are cheap crap we've had several of them have major engine failures that would often cost as much as buying a running driving car to repair. The main reason these cars sell is because ride share companies require a minimum year to the vehicle you can use and these are the cheapest usually. The Subaru is a good buy and that weird white hatch back in the US is sold as a Chevy Aveo and they are junk and probably worst or on par with the Hyundais.
Seriously - why did you not go out and buy one of those mini power bank car chargers the guy used to start it last time with? under $25 and problem sorted.
Good to have a solid backup transportation in a warzone. In your climate, you would want to have the batter inside the vehicle since the battery will last you longer and has higher chances of starting your car (less cold wind).... Happy New Year! Also, if there are any Costcos in Ukraine, they usually have good battery deals.
Johnny, save yourself money and anxiety. get the Audew jumpstarter, then you can help anyone.. It was rated highest by Project Farm. Get the Noco desulfating battery charger, 5 amp. Then charge the max into that battery at the shop.
I could be wrong, but I have a bad feeling about that rebuilt starter. They can test starters to see if they are good or not. I was suspicious when they said they were going to change your starter after you told them to just fix everything that needs fixed. Because the battery was the reason your car was having problems starting. What's the chances your battery and starter both go out at the same time. Then they said they rebuilt the starter. That was really suspicious. Did you see them take the starter apart. Unless you see them rebuild it, how do you know it's been rebuilt. You can't tell just by looking at it. They rebuild the inside parts and use the same outside casing. If they said they put a new starter in you can look at the starter and see if it's different from your old one and a new one won't have any dirt and grime on it. That's why if they are going to rip you off they tell you it's been rebuilt because there is no way to prove it wasn't, especially if it was working before. I wouldn't never tell a mechanic that I don't know what all is wrong with my car just fix everything that needs fixed. Of course I don't know what kind of relationship you have with your mechanic. You might have reason to believe you can trust him 100%. I never trust a mechanic if I don't know him or don't know him that well. I have them explain everything and show me what they are doing on the car. Which it looks like you can do that because they don't mind you looking around the garage. It's hard to find a good mechanic you can trust.
It’s all connected. If the battery is bad the starter will have to work harder to start the car, so the starter could have been worn. He also said he got the car for emergencies so if you can might as well replace anything you can. The car is 14 years old.
J, I crinch wen I watch your car videos, big fan of your channel, wen I see them I want to pick the phone up and tell u wot to do, buy a new battery m8, no more problems. Mechanic Andy . Glasgow 🏴👍
Hope the alternator is good too and the gas lines don’t freeze. My Mazda has over 240,000 miles. Maintenance is key for the life of the car and it’s good to keep hard working people in business.
Had a customer that always bought Audi, then he thought they went all plastic and bought a Boxster S, then he really liked it and bought a 911 (some sort) then he sold the 911 and bought another Boxster S and then he bought a Cayenne Turbo that he loved.. and so did he's wife so he had to buy one for her as well... I guess they are nice cars... Another customer I had bought a really expensive 911 (RS2 or RS3? can't remember) had it for a year but sold it and bought BMW M5 instead... Anyway not that cheap cars on the used car lot, as a Swede I would like the XC90 ofc but they are about the same price in Sweden so not that cheap. But as you said the BMW 1 series thing is probably the most fun! That kind of carwash would probably in Sweden be like 100 USD sort of or maybe more...
I happy you got your car fixed, good decision. Let a workshop install a battery breaker / switch for the ground cable so you just switch it on and off fast when you do long time parking.
I did not see you tighten the battery wire with a tool. # 2, You need to invest in a pair of jump-starting cables to keep with the car at all times; it makes life easier. I am wishing you well.
And what about the front windshield ?? AGM battery is the only one you can use in this kind of car ! 😄NO....my BMW 750ld and BMW X3 3.5d has AGM battery in the trunk....Happy New year 2023 ✨🎉
My car battery keeps dying too my car I literally bought last month. I gotta go to the Subaru dealership tomorrow which I'm salty about. Ruined my whole weekend. I'm glad I have 3 other cars to rely on.
Letting a car sit is just about the worst thing you can do to it. Honestly, as nice a Porsche's are they are far to unreliable for your style of driving (your not a daily driver). Get a decent VW, Toyota, or Honda.
ok Johnny you have to start your car everyday to keep the battery from draining sitting there in the colds night drains the battery now you need to get a new Battery soon Buddy
The 1-series with a manual would be the more fun car, but not the most reliable. I enjoyed following along your Cayenne adventures. I'm planning to buy a used Cayenne GTS, quite a bit newer than yours, but they seem to be reliable if you take care of them. Although that work you had done would probably be at least double the price in US.
Omg. You have no idea. There are more car problems here too. I'm literally at the mechanic getting a second tire fixed for getting a hole in the tire. Drilling my wallet. Roads in America are getting worse between potholes and nails.
Johnny your car looks uber cool! When it’s not fresh from the factory you will always have to take care of your wheels… and something to repair from time to time ;) Cheers from Poland!
I went to DC and saw several guys wash and wax the car in the basement of the high rise building. I asked the guy working in the building for how much it costs to wash the car. He told me from $100 to $3000. I said what? $3000? He said that price is for Lamborghini or Ferrari.

Did you actually tighten down the cable with a wrench or just hand tighten it ?
Fix everything except the crack in my window 🙂
Glad you got everything fixed! I think you need to buy a car cover for your vehicle. Then it won’t get so dirty so quick. 😊
Johnny, save yourself money and anxiety. get the Audew jumpstarter, then you can help anyone.. It was rated highest by Project Farm. Get the Noco desulfating battery charger, 5 amp. Then charge the max into that battery at the shop.
Make sure the battery cable is properly fixed to the terminal. If not, it creates resistance and can get hot!
You should get one of those battery jump starter things.
Get rid of this damn car, man
Yeah, the starter suffers from repeated start efforts due to battery issues. Glad you are getting everything repaired.
Glad you're OK. I saw the news about Kiev and wondered how you were doing.
Good to see Vlad and Cynthia. Glad you got your car fixed.
Thanks Philip!
Labor in Detroit Michigan at the Porsche dealer is $195hr as of 12/31/2022. You did real good
You need a Noco battery starter. It's literally a life saver.
Wow, $9 to get your car detailed! It would probably cost $100 here in the states. I hope you gave that kid a nice tip.
Can you rent a spot for the car in an elevated/covered parking garage?
It may worth it in the winter as the battery may not get drained as much.
Finally lol a NEW BATTERY LOL Well I’m sure it feels good to know your vehicle is in top shape now. Those guys seem awesome at the shop.
The small car Daihatsu, made by Toyota, is probably the best buy for reliability, followed by a skoda and subaru.
Good to see you guys are out of darkness and got the toys out for a spin .
if you keep having that issue, try making sure the battery ground is secured tight and right.
Took some time to get it done but glad your car is all fixed up now. I hope you tipped the car wash guy well, he did a great job.
Johnny Vs Porsche is the best stuff so far
Porche is a luxury/ sports vehicle ..maintenance will be costly. All the best mate.
Omg. You have no idea. There are more car problems here too. I'm literally at the mechanic getting a second tire fixed for getting a hole in the tire. Drilling my wallet. Roads in America are getting worse between potholes and nails.
you should buy LADA. LADA will always start.
That's still a very good price for what they did. Here in the States it would have been double that.
Well wages in the US are around five times that in Ukraine.
Johnny your car looks uber cool! When it’s not fresh from the factory you will always have to take care of your wheels… and something to repair from time to time ;) Cheers from Poland!
GET RID of the Porsche Cayenne! It's an ENDLESS MONEY PIT !!!!
I went to DC and saw several guys wash and wax the car in the basement of the high rise building. I asked the guy working in the building for how much it costs to wash the car. He told me from $100 to $3000. I said what? $3000? He said that price is for Lamborghini or Ferrari.
Sorry about your "Baby"! Cheap repair!. Appears that the headlight has a damaged seal, allowing water and condensation inside the lens. Nice cut Johnny!
The investment on your "Baby" is worth it. Drive in style, and less headaches. Outstanding!. With pain$ comes pleasure. I love my Nissan, but miss my Corvette😓
Thanks Denis! I've always wanted to have a C7 or C8 actually!
Its really nice follow You fixing your car in winter-Ukraine ! Batterychange was really a necessity. Now its only the windshield left to be fixed 😉🙂 -do it in spring ! Slava Ukraine !!
Why would you buy a Porsche in a city that can’t even get common household supplies?
Changing your battery is a good move
