@@nicolascole77 It's refreshing to hear a seasoned professional say the work still feels like work. That resonates with me as a beginner, knowing that we both face that boredom. It's also a wakeup call: I simply need to work more and get used to it.
Well, this clicked for me and was helpful and uplifting because I realize that what Stephen King said is precisely what you did: "Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work." So, as of tomorrow, I'll be waking up at 5 am, and organizing my day in a more productive way. Thanks, Cole.
This is a great perspective! Success in writing isn’t just about inspiration-it’s about mastering the "boring work" and turning it into a habit. Focusing on time, goals, and outcomes is a game-changer. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Cole. I go by Pamela M Smith (my real name) in your courses. Thanks for the width and depth of information you provide. And thanks for this inspiration. You're ABSOLUTELY right! It took 10,000 hours to turn me into a competent writer for the business sector. Now, after being disabled, it's time to pivot to writing for the internet, and it's scary. Thank you so much for the encouragement to keep at it. I'm guessing it will take me 500-1000 (maybe even more!) hours to dig deep into your courses and videos. I just need to keep putting one foot in front of the other! Onward!
Truly appreciate this perspective, Nicolas. How frequently we forget these maxims and start assuming this journey should be easy or uncomplicated. "Nobody knows the number of hours it'll take", so just start counting the hours and put in the work". Such valuable insight. I've only seen a few of your videos thus far but I'm already inspired to launch my writing career based on what you've shared. Thank you.
This is pure gold. We need more such stuff. I get bored by writing content and many times thought that maybe I should switch to some other field- even though writing is my passion. Now after watching your video, I realized that if you want to do big in life, you better embrace boredom.
Thanks for reminding me that i gotta "eat glass." I could feel myself sinking deeper into the false and over hyped image that I have created for myself. Time to put in the work again... and to never stop. Thanks for sharing this, Cole! (P.S. I'm one of your top 10 leaderboard for WWAI).
I need you to tell me the same thing over and over because I'm slow, but eventually, I get there. I've read your ghostwriting book 3 times. I found new stuff every time.
Thanks, Cole. Many of us often need this sort of kick in the ass to jar us from a Candyland fantasy, and back to the reality that succeeding takes real, boring, work.
(HEY COLE WISH YOU READ MY COMMENT) FOR THE PAST TWO AND A HALF MONTHS I'VE BEEN WRITING ONLINE EVERY SINGLE DAY. I wake up every single morning at 5:00 a.m. and work tirelessly for 2 hours. And then I write my quora answer and Twitter thread and medium post and linkedin post. And the work doesn't feel so good because its energy consuming and it takes focus and attention to do something very well. But each time I get more views on my answers, profound comments on my post and when people share my work that's when I feel and I want to continue because the end result feels so good. Is Muhammad Ali said, " I hate every single hour of my training but I said to myself work now and live the rest of your life as a champion"
I do not think you like working this hard. I do appreciate and believe in your process. I know it works. Sometimes things click faster than others. And I wish I had started sooner.
I haven’t seen one of those nike jackets in a loooong time, I forgot I used to want one so bad hahaha This video is awesome, you’ve probably seen me on skool, I’m very thankful for every bit of content you put out
Well put. You do a great job at uncovering the practical realities of a writing career. I'd love to enhance my writing audience, but listening to you is a reminder of the need for consistency. Thank you!
As with everything in life, we don't even know how many hours we have until we die. If we knew, I believe our choices would be very much different than are now. Very impactful video :)
Falling in love with the boring work. Those are strong words and I connect with it because I’ve sat down to watch a boring drama movie start to finish. For me, it had content for others who watched it with me, total waste of time 😂 Thanks you Nicolas for pointing to the importance of commitment.❤
Actually a very good way of thinking about work, instead of dreading to put in the hours you see it as progress in your planned timeline (wich duh of course it is, but this perspective really makes you feel like you're progressing more, instead of 'ugh i need to do this' it's 'ok, how many hours until i solve this') it's just a perspective shift but it's very powerful, thanks for sharing.
I appreciate your bluntness. After quitting numbing myself, I found it helpful to remember that the amount of pain experienced is proportionate to the joy that is to come. I would love to know how you handle the difference in traffic between your written content and RUclips. Many would feel discouraged when incorporating a new platform and not seeing the immediacy of their previous success translating to here.
@ i appreciate your insight; however, this is not the case here. Additionally, we can’t know for certain if they have put enough work to reap the results.
It is the stepping into boredom that works like the oven, transforming the cold and gray steel into a red, hot, moldable state. It's that capacity that makes our work truly worthy.
Reaching certain goals can feel like being handed a bag full of frogs and being told you must swallow them all to succeed-no alternatives, no shortcuts.
Great video! I’ve read both of your Art and Science books, and they’re both rife with typos. Let me know if you’d like me to proofread them (or even send you a gratis list of typos I came across on a casual read).
I want to start writing a newsletter, but it seems like newsletters are geared towards solving a problem in business or in self help. I am an aircraft mechanic and been so for my entire adult life, (im 38). I want to write about new developments in aviation. Is this a viable topic to start a newsletter? or do I technically want to write 'articles." Am I thinking too hard about it? Does it really matter?
Do you ever read things that are simply just interesting or fun to read? Even if its not self-help or business, its telling a unique story. Go for it, there's bound to be people who'd get pure enjoyment from your writing!
Do you have a course that’s predicated on working with AI. I am a decent writer but would want to learn more about that I seen you on a podcast the other day
75 Hard cured this mindset in me. The first week, my mind said “75 hard is too easy.” None of the activities are mind blowing: workout, read, eat healthy. But by pushing past excuses and doing them NO MATTER WHAT, I forced myself to sit through boredom. All these activities are beneficial for me. It was my self-destructive mind who defaulted to ease and excuses not to workout, eat a dessert, etc. The right actions are simple.
Honestly it is your choice and reality is you can go and do something else. Find a way to love living, breathing and being healthy. Do you volunteer at a hospital or homeless shelter or a food bank? You are sounding incredibly self entered and frankly of truly limited experience.
Woof, some real tough love right here, but message received. For sure, you did the thing we're all trying to do. And you did all those hours of the boring work, and we haven't (unless *you, reader, have). Of course, I feel the boredom and I don't want to do the thing anymore. Don't want to edit the video. Don't want to follow up the leads. I'd rather be making music. I'd rather be on the beach drinking. That boredom leads one to think they're simply in the wrong 'thing'. For instance, 12 years into producing videos, I'm not challenged anymore. I know how *I make videos, and I make them that way, and it's terribly boring (to me) (I literally just said this in a weekly-update video on my channel the other day). But of course, it's average to get bored and change 'things'. You want to be average? Just change things. You want to be exceptional? You just do the thing over and over. Not that hard. But definitely not fun. So as I struggle and waffle in my video-career, what outcome can I get excited about? What happens at the end of a project where I feel actual satisfaction? I believe my answer lies somewhere in *producing and *directing projects and not holding the camera and *NOT doing the editing (God, editing is the life-suck). To be able to do that, I have to be able to create a better offer, and become a better salesman. Thanks Nicolas!
love it

Best video you've released.
How come?

Love the raw and personal style of this video. Do more. PGA ghostwriter ✊

💚 100 hours and then double it! 😱 I love the way you framed this Cole 🙏
WOW.
Just wow.
Real, raw and fully truthful.
Thank you for saying it like it is.
Fire ass windbreaker, dawg.

Insanely underrated! Your content is changing my life
I need you to tell me the same thing over and over because I'm slow, but eventually, I get there. I've read your ghostwriting book 3 times. I found new stuff every time.
This is exactly “what I needed to hear” this morning! Thank you, Nic.
Talent does what it can. Genius does what it must.
Thanks, Cole. Many of us often need this sort of kick in the ass to jar us from a Candyland fantasy, and back to the reality that succeeding takes real, boring, work.

Love THIS.
This is so HELPFUL. Thanks!
Needed to hear it today, Nickolas
Amazing and stunning video which hooked me to watch entire video.
Only by working together can we achieve the success we desire.
I do not think you like working this hard. I do appreciate and believe in your process. I know it works.

This is Hormozi esque. Love it

Your advice always hit me hard!
Love the style of this video. More like this please.
Just saved this in my "Motivation & Inspiration" RUclips Playlist 🤝🤝🤝 time to get to writing!
Well put. You do a great job at uncovering the practical realities of a writing career. I'd love to enhance my writing audience, but listening to you is a reminder of the need for consistency. Thank you!
Heck yeah! Love this.
Great video Nick! So many of us need to hear advice like this.
Eye-opening!
It hits at the right time ✊🏻

This is absolute gem Cole 💎

here for the crash out
love you Cole
Quite the display of humility here
Thanks a lot for telling this, Cole!
You've just breaked one of the biggest faulty beliefs, beginners have.
That's it man, thank you

Successful singers are often failed actors (and vice verse). Not every skill is mastered by every man.

Merci infiniment 🎉🎉🎉🎉 c'est très profond
It is the stepping into boredom that works like the oven, transforming the cold and gray steel into a red, hot, moldable state. It's that capacity that makes our work truly worthy.
Very true. But it’s hard at the beginning with no audience and no real feedback to see if the effort is worth it or not.
Hi Nicolas,
I'm one of your unknown students.
Well done.
This was fire!
I needed this 🙏
Slick tracksuit
This is gold
Real maturity here.
I love this!!!!! You need to write more about fiction
On point.
Really wish you drop more of these truth bombs 🙏

Do it - and go talk to all of the senior citizens who will tell you their av stories over a cup of coffee by the local airport
Thanks for the encouragement and permission to go ahead! Ill do it. Ive already started writing a little privately

@Hona-tm8bd yes i do! I love fiction lol
Thinking too hard. Just write ✍️

Hey Nic, nice opening. You should turn it into a rap song.
I just might.
This video is real.
So boring work widens all moats! Got it.
I have to get better at doing the boring work.
REPEAT WITH ME:
THE BORING WORK IS THE MOAT.
Yes. I'm 60 seconds in. But yes.
Doing the boring shit is the only way to succeed at anything really!
If you want to be successful, get used to it.
❤️🩷🧡
The begging is catching great try

Same here! I hate the process, but I love the output. 🫶💯
