I have watched it and think it's fabulous! I have "made" my own counselling office 7 years ago. It wasn't me, but my handyman. It is absolutely worthwhile and because it didn't needed to be soundproof at all ( counselling isn't noisy) it costed me £7000,00 to redo it. It's truly amazing to have a space which you can call your own.
Hi Al! Hope you're well. I'm just embarking on my garden studio journey and curious whether you had any pointers 1 year later. I am being told that to truly soundproof is really difficult i.e., requires 2 layers of acoustic plasterboard + MLV + a thick wall / concrete board on the outside (such that neighbours can't hear anything 10 meters away even if you're playing loud bassy music at night). I make electronic music so that's my main concern. What kind of -db results are you seeing? Also, how have you found the summer months without AC - can I live without it? Well done on an amazing project! Super inspiring!
Hi Thanks for your questions! (Sorry I've just seen your comment) I would say if you can use something dense to build - like brick/breeze block - then do it! The more dense the more sound reduction. I didn't have space or budget for that. I'm not very techy when it comes to sound measurements, but I don't bother anyone with my set-up (and I don't have a big garden at all) I don't mix dance music though, and it's the bass that really carries. My mate made a small garage into a studio where he can play drums/bass loud and mix all night/day and you can barely hear anything standing outside. He had a breeze block building to start, and then I know he used 2 layers of thick plasterboard and even filled the air gap with sand (have you heard of that one?? He said it was a nightmare to do - but it did the trick! AC - I bought a Homecom portable air con machine for the hot summer - it did get bloody hot!! And as I don't have air exchange either I have to remember to take breaks and open the door to get the fresh air in! But I'm still alive! And LOVING my studio!! Good luck with your project - it'll change your life! :-)
And separating the inner "room" from the outer frame as much as possible. That's the key. I also have opted for bigger windows, but keeping these teeny and using acoustic glass or adding another layer is also a great idea.
Hi thanks for the question - sorry I only just saw it! I had a budget of £20k and came in under budget at around £18k for the actual build, then I bought some furniture and decorated and did the flooring for around another £1000.

That sounds great Joanna! Yes the soundproofing bit takes time and more budget. I reckon my main build was about the same as yours.
This video was fab. Best wishes for your new studio I hope you spend many many hours making fab music and video in it.

Would you be able to provide instrumentals to a few your songs?
