I was 11 playing this game. But I really didn't know what to do and was just walking around, picking items, killing random enemies and was just happy when I discovered any new location ;)
I was the same, I loved how it looked and having a sword etc but I was stumbling around and just enjoying the look. Other games like Alien8 and Head over Heals had an easier learning curve being more focused on the block jumping etc.
I have very mixed memories of this game. I was 17 at the time it came out and of the friend I hung around with. The only one had passed their Driving test and had a car. For helping him fix his car, he bought me this game. As I had raved about it for ages. On the way home we heard about the Space Shuttle Challenger Crash on the car Radio. I still love the game. But I cant now look at it without thinking of those ... Who lost their lives that day..
I was stunned by the title music at the time - and because it only played once after loading, I recorded it on my tape recorder, so I could listen again and again...
The logical evolution of fairlight would have been a rogue-like dungeon experience. It's a shame the two concepts did not really come together for the spectrum. It was perhaps the 1990 DOS Ultima VI which had a semi-3d top down look to it. I am amazed looking back how small the gap was between a Fairlight in 85 and something like Ultima VI on the PC 1990 which was a big leap in tech, graphics etc. Then Diablo in 97 for Windows covered a similar theme. I think there is room now for a Fairlight game in a retro style, bringing in more roguelike elements but still with the sweet isometric graphics (just extended and improved). Minecraft managed to do that slightly retro but new thing. I feel like a lot of the modern dungeon explore/bashing games like Diablo have lost some of the exploration qualities and are strictly combat focused. I am rambling now. Thanks for sharing the great walkthrough!
Even though I'm a bit of a Commodore 64 fanboy I have to admit that on balance this Spectrum version is better because it's a lot faster. C64 version has great music though.
I found it impossible at the time and can see why now. Complicated and not intuitive with unclear puzzles and resolutions. Good graphics and atmosphere though.

Like everybody.. lol

Appparently, the title screen was a hint... Clearly, I was no Einstein! 😂
Same here, really liked the game aged 12 but no idea what to do. Can’t believe it was completed in 10mins lol
I really loved this game when I was a child. This was one of my favorites.
The one an only walkthrough of this game on RUclips. Thanks for helping to beat it at last!
Now I know how FAR I was from the end of the game. =) It looks so simple seeing that through this video. Well done!
I played this a lot back in the day - and I realise that I really had no idea what I was doing!!

no idea what i was supposed to be doing but i still played around with it alot just to marvel at how damn cool and atmospheric it was
oh wow, thanks. I was actually quite close to finishing, I remember the book & the wizard at the top of the tower, but I never managed to escape.
the title screen was amazing
Epic Speccy game ending right there :)
The only sound in the 48K version was the tune on the title screen.

Great to see until the end
Awesome! I never saw the end
Brilliant game x i played it for hours x
The 128K version has the music playing throughout and it's horrendous! Better no audio then hear that over and over.
128k music is directed to TV audio channel. It's not hard to tune volume down. )))

ZX Spectrum version had a great entry theme.

6:26 ? I never found this secret way how on earth did people see it as there is no hint like a crack in the wall etc ? Fond memories of the game still
At 14, I spent weeks studying the castle, studied every wall in steps, but did not find this passage. Oh, happy years....
me too :( couldn't get through the last hatch
Loved this! One I actually finished :)
So, just slightly shorter than Skyrim ;-) 10 minutes!!!! LOL
this is diablo 3 on spectrum )
btw, maybe the most interesting 3d isometric graphics. alien 8 and knight lore for example have much easier geometry

audio....
!!!! oh !!!!
Made by a swede.
worst ending ever
Bruh Its 240p Not 48k
