  • When packing for a fly fishing trip to the Seychelles, the cumulative weight of your luggage is extremely important. The maximum weight for your checked luggage is 33 pounds for your checked luggage, and 11 pounds for your carry-on -- this is non-negotiable with domestic charters from Mahe. When you consider how quickly your fly fishing gear can add up, including fly rods, wading boots, camera equipment, terminal tackle, flies, and all of your clothes, that can be a serious challenge.
Ian Davis walks us through his packing system to ensure he has zero issues upon arrival, while not sacrificing the necessities for a successful fly fishing trip. While the gear and tackle are specific to travel to Seychelles, his travel tips and packing systems are effective tools for destination travel anywhere that weight is a factor.

You need to mention that these weight restrictions are only for the flights from Mahe to the outer islands. The International flights have a much greater baggage weight allowance. Then its just a case of storing the stuff you don't take to the mother ship at your arrival / departure hotel on the mainland. Most hotels will accomodate you if you ask, as I do when I visit these amazing islands (I've already notched off Mahe, Praslin, La Digue and Alphonse).

      Hey Steve,
Good point! Ian does mention this tip at the end of the clip -- a real game saver for being able to store some extra items during your time on an outer island.

@@Yellowdogflyfishingadventures Yeah, I was a bit too quick commenting before the end of the video. Apologies to Ian.

What bag are you using for your checked bag? Wonder what size fits the rod tubes. Thanks.
