You need to get the Shenandoah Harmony book - just google it, I got mine in about a week. There are over 500 tunes in there, many beautiful beyond belief.

The "chirping" you hear are overtones. They are always there; to have them stand out is an artefact of the room acoustics. Not everyone likes them.
