When Blizzard put up the PTR for phase 2 of Season of Discovery, there were also tons of runes datamined for the wrist and helm rune engraving slots which are expected to come alongside phase 3.
Today I wanted to check out a few of them in detail and see how they may affect our classes in the future.
Of course this video is going to contain datamined info which I have hopefully made clear enough, so if you prefer to not know about future phases, maybe come back to this one later.

Honestly, a Mage having the icon image for one of their spells being a Warrior getting wreaked by magic seems very on brand.
I thought it was Varian getting imploded from Legion opener, haha.
As for the Felguard, I'm hoping it won't simply become the meta / the only viable demon to use. It would be really cool to see both the infernal and the doomguard be implemented in a meaningful way as well
it wont bc u have to give up UA for it, so the noobs will use meta and felguard

Felguard is cool on paper, but it's so good that it sort of invalidates the other demons which was my main gripe with it when it came out in tbc. Now even more so if anyone can pick it and not just deep demo locks.
Hopefully it's only as chunky as the Voidwalker and doesn't have as much offensive power as the TBC talent. Maybe even having the Warlock's damage reduced when Felguard is active would help balance it.
I agree! I have always disliked the felguard default for demo. I always liked the idea of being demonology meant stronger of all demons and switching between them as needed.
@@Abrexfroman Yes, I think it would play to the fantasy so much better if we could get a rune that made it possible to switch demons easier and that made the existing demons stronger. a warlock has an arsenal of demons at his command that are used depending on the situation, and not just a single one that works for everything!
Felguard and Pandemic share the same rune slot. So you either choose dots that can crit or felguard which I think is a intresting tradeoff, with everlasting affliction I think both will have their uses in different scenarios

Not only shamans.... look at holy paladins they have 2 healspells holy light and flash of light and both have to be hardcasted which is absolutely dumb compared to priests with mending or shields... they do instant casts only in PvP and heal the entire raid

No riptide is a LITERAL crime at this point.
Resto Shaman, taking abilities from other expansions, could get Riptide, Spirit Link Totem, Tidal Wave, etc. I’d like to see us get Riptide, but I’d also like to see totally new abilities tbh. Some abilities on classes I’ve been very happy to see put into SoD, but I also don’t want it to feel like retail but classic. Let’s discover more new abilities and effects.
Other warrior runes were revealed which you didn't show are essentially just them believing that warriors wanted to play WotLK warrior again. Deep prot sword n board will likely still be ignored unless there's a rune at 60 that flat out buffs revenge and shield slam. Thanks aggrend.
As a 2h shaman, I'd like to see a rune that gives us a melee attack similar to lave lash but does nature damage instead. Something that plays off of stormstrike, feels odd(not bad) having a spell rune but no weapon attack rune as a 2H shaman.
They could just change lava lash to be like "elemental lash" and have it do whatever school of damage the OH is imbued with (wf = nature, ft = fire, fb = frost, rb = physical), which also helps solve the issue shamans have had with elemental mobs being immune to large chunks of our damage without alternatives which feel good to use.

I was thinking that, but only for 2H and with a cast time, making it situational and giving the shaman another
@@badwolfxd3593 I mean I would just propose LL also being useable with 2H, as it would be the easiest/lowest effort to implement and not require a new rune or ability, which could be done within this phase and not have to wait for p3. They should get a stun or something later though, recognizing or realizing that 2H should be the PvP spec, and the addition of LL would simply be a direct PVE damage buff.

If they could make all the different specs viable for different scenarios that would be pretty awesome, but that is asking a lot to try to balance that much.
I would love it if runes were highlighted on the right hand side of the character menu and could also be selected from there with a double click. Perhaps. People are also not pre-binding runes to gear but I can switch between arcane surge and living flame so fast...
As a shaman I'd love to see a rune that spreads Flame Shock via Lava Lash and/or Lashing Flames which doubles the damage of Flame Shock on a LL'd target. Basically anything that makes Flametongue an improvement over dual Rockbiter.
I still think the shadow bolt volley should be on a different slot. It would be a really cool interaction with Shadow claw if they did that
I have been waiting for new abilities. SoD has been so amazing but it really has left a TON on the table. I look forward to the next phase.

SoD has been loads of fun but I'm ready for classic+ realms and with level cap being 60 right around corner not mood sink anymore time to temp realm. But so glad SoD came out to help pave the way to bright future.
I'd love to see a 2H shaman rune that causes our stormstrike to leave a pool of lightning on the ground that causes damage based on our AP over a few seconds tbh
Would like something simple for shaman like increasing the time up of Flame shock. This would help all both dps and tank specs. But nothing mental. Little bit of damage but otherwise just makes game play feel smoother.

With sheath of light, consecrate is already doing a decent chunk of damage per second, especially if you go with guarded by the light as well and you go with tank spec. Gaining over 200 spell power with rank 3 consecration being the highest available, you're already seeing consecration ticks of around 30 dps and there's no target limit either. In phase 4, I predict 100+ dps ticks of consecration for max rank and between mana restore from healing taken and guarded by the light ticks, prot paladins are going to be doing some incredible damage. I think a ret/prot build utilizing sanctity aura is going to be the go to pally tank spec in phase 4, provided nothing else comes out that changes that trajectory.
The despair runs for priests will need +5% crit to damage over time spells. The crit % is so low it won’t do much plus the crit damage does not scale.
correct. and a crit modfier cause 150% crit dmg is just way too weak

Mental Quickness from Cataclysm, Bloodlust, Doom Winds are just a number of runes I can think would be useful to shamans!
Mental quickness and elemental devastation would be great for Enh. The true spellhance will be born!

@WillE Temporal Anomaly isn't new btw, it's and evoker spell. The only difference between this datamined iteration and the the live iteration is that it applies echoes for the preservation evoker(with a talent), and this one looks like it does not. It would be equivalent to this version applying the absorb and a one time beacon...or like a 5 second beacon so that the mage would get maybe one heal off during the cast.
Ranged hunter still shafted. We gained very little here. the explosive shot TNT thing was a start, but not nearly enough. I say we, because I consider myself a hunter player, but I'm playing a mage in SoD cause hunters are simply not viable unless you play melee and I refuse to do so.
You didn't mention the Backdraft rune for warlock, which give hast for all destruction spell after using Conflagrate. I was really surprised to see a rune that would specifically be useful for a end-of-tree spell. You can build freely in vanilla, and Conflagrate can perfectly be ignored even by dps. I really wonder if they will do more rune to accomodate end-of-tree spells. It feels so specific it's kinda weird.
If they add this, destro will surely be the go to pvp spec sooner or later. It is already good despite the whole spell pushback crap in classic, and being able to have 30% haste almost all the time will definately turn this into a powerhouse spec.

Temporal Anomaly is a straight rip from preservation evoker on reatil btw, though it looks like it won't have the Echo effect (duplicated heals on target).

Atleasty one of these runes I want to see to make elemental shamans a class you can 1v1 with is:
1. A rune to make instant cast spirit wolf and doesn't allow you to be reduced below 100% run speed when in the form
2. Earthbind totem now roots the target for 4 seconds the moment its dropped.
3. Stoneclaw totem gives a protective shield that absorbs a certain amount of damage
But at this point I guess I should just be playing Wotlk Ele sham 😂

I really hope that Blizzard makes deep prot sword n' board Warrior the meta tank. It really fulfills the class fantasy for me and I find it more enjoyable.
It just feels so bad right now.
Same for shaman and paladin, really. Just add some severe drawbacks to not using a shield that basically makes it non viable in raid. For ex change shaman way of earth rune to not be triggered by a weapon imbue, but by having a shield equipped (dare we dream that shield imbues can be a thing?).
I don't know if it's been mentioned by some version of Doom Winds for shaman would be awesome

The confusion regarding the druid runes overlapping suggest to me that rither that one is a distraction, or much more fun and hopeful, it suggests that they're considering moving runes around. I personally would love for them to separate Fury of Stormrage and Living Seed. Let me be a hybrid caster/healer!
i disagree with the hybrid caster healer because it homogenises boomkin and full healer into just 1 role so it offers less playstyle and forces people to do what they dont want to

I mean, it *could* do that, but given how moonkin form works, you wouldn't be able to do what I'm talking about while using that fork to its greatest potential. If they switch, say Wild Growth and Living Seed runes, then you would definitely see Moonkin, AoE Resto Healers, and also the more-single target specialized Balance/Resto hybrid, maybe all in the same raid! That actually give druids more roles we can fill and options to play with, not fewer

I believe for shamans in phase 2 enhancement was their goal, I think elemental will be focused in phase 3 or probably just new totems
P1 was some of the most fun I've had playing any version of WoW in recent memory. P2 feels like a bit of a miss by comparison. Interested to see how P3 shapes up.
Yeah p1 was fun for about a week or 2 until there was nothing to do but raid log.

P2 has been boring to me for some reason, I loved phased one and was super stoked for phase 2 but idk got 2 40 and just don’t even know what to do really.. I’m starting up a character I’m wrath to maybe think about playing cata. Idk, phase 2 has been a major miss for me. Maybe because I play a paladin and feral lol

I think this is silly to say, of course phase 1 was the most exciting and interesting to start. But the format and formula is established now
I hope shaman get unseen before spells like maybe a rune depending on what spec it gives you a totem and that totem summons a elemental spirit and helps you dps, heal or give you defense stats etc.
Felguard states it gets effected by any talent, trigger, or ability of any other demon pet. This means it gains Fel Intellect, Fel Stamina, Unholy Power, Master Demonologist for each demon. This might mean 15% mana x5 (55%), 15% health x5 (55%), 20% damage x5 (100%), and it gains each effect of Master Demonologist which are -20% threat, 10% damage, -10% physical taken, 1 resist per level (50 at 50). What would make it even more overpowered is it could trigger Master Demonologist for the WARLOCK TOO! If it does, then Demo Warlocks will rule with all -20% threat, 10% damage, -10% phys taken, and 1 resist per level. The Felguard also has an intercept (3s stun charge every 30s) and I think a Cleave.
I hope Shamans get a Rune that gives them a Totem buff aura instead of dealing with constantly casting their totems. Then in the same rune slot have a rune that increases totem effects by 100%. Another thing that Shamans could get is Capacitor Totem or Hex. Maybe Ascendence, Spiritwalkers Grace, but I hope Druids and Shamans get their knockbacks! Would be hilarious if they give Shamans Plate armor since Horde has 1 plate class and Alliance has 2.
I want to see this: new concepts. Not rehash retail abilities as runes. Hunters be able to use Distracting Shot as Misdirect to their pet allowing Beast Mastery Hunters to tank. Maybe have another class be a pet class? Druids getting Treants (rehash). Warriors could get shouts that causes allies to restore health when acting (moving, casting, attacking, taking damage, etc).
I would think they wouldn't allow it to double dip again and again and again for each talent for each pet but instead just get 1 application of each.
it wouldn't be double dipping for felguard. We're already have starsurge which benefits from both Starfire and Wrath, but talent which reduces both speels by 9% only reduces Starsurge by 9%, so you can get only unique bonuses from each demon

Another day another boring Warrior rune. Maybe they can come up with a few runes in each slot that slightly change the way heroic strike works for next phase.
I don't want them to change heroic strike at all. Especially at 60 its the only efficient way to dump rage and not waste it.

For melee shaman both tank and dw dps i cant think of anything specifically i just dont want anymore active rotational buttons i think there are enough, i like in classic that melee its not about hitting a button every single global and auto attacks are actually powerful, however 2H for pve could use a rotational button that specifically benefits from 2H probably put it in the glove slot but for the new slots we are getting overall i cant think of anything specifically im pretty happy with shaman overall

As a Feral tank main I would love to see a Thrash Rune and as much as Raze would be cool too, I kinda hope they give us a new and interesting AOE rage dump. 🐻

Also as a feral tank, I hope they never increase or remove our target cap for 3 enemies. It feels great and rewarding to manage all your tank targets, rather than just spamming an attack on the same target and hitting everything.
I like the challenge and the engaging play style. Different tanks should have different strengths and philosophies.

Wish list for SOD (enh shamn)I want a 2h frostbrand weapon attack. (both warrior and Enh shaman) Titans grip, and Minor Titans grip where warrior gets full effect two two handed weapons, where enh shaman can get one two handed and one one handed weapon. (ele shaman) Sky fury totem would be great for pvp and pve. StormKeeper would be great. (Resto shaman) Chain heal puts healing rain on targets. (Warrior) any of the large self buffs we have seen through wow history(the 30% damage for 10sec type) (Hunter BM) a type based pet buff depending on the type of pet you have, such as windserpent giving 3% crit to party, and a increase to pet storage allowing a catch them all type playstyle. (marksmen hunter) Rapid fire. (Lock aff) dot spread like OG dk had. (Demo lock) two pets + felgaurd (Tank lock) aoe SUCK (shadow priest) on dot crit send shadowy apparition. (Mage) Frost buff, Arcane mana back type attack, Fire idk.(Rogue) deleted
Shaman (tank) main checking in: I would not be surprised to see some form of totem of wrath or wrath of air totem added for elemental in the future. I agree riptide for resto seems like a no brainer. As for enhancement? 🤔 yeah I don’t know. Tank spec feels great to play, I can’t think of what else I would want or need. Some sort of last stand/shield wall ability maybe? Melee dps side I still WANT 2H to be viable outside of PvP. It feels like it needs another button to press. Maybe lightning crash aoe thing or the ability to detonate our lightning shield or some sort of lava eruption thing. Also give me some melee hit on the 2H mastery rune please

Enhancement is going to get static shock 6% chance to proc lightning shield on melee attacks. Basically, garbage
For shaman, feral spirits and feral lunge are the runes i'd love to see.
As long as I’m giving ideas and requests, and blizz seems determined to make deep prot a thing: I’ve wanted something for warriors since titan’s grip was first introduced. Give me the ability to dual wield shields! Ultimate wall! Make attacks work with block value or something. I’ll backhand my way to victory. I’ve always liked the shield bash/shield slam animations anyway
I’d like to see weapon imbues be permanent when cast on a weapon while equipped. 5minute buff timer goes by way too quick. Also, 2h enhance just needs to be able to use one additional enhancement to be competitive with dual wielding.
No. 2h should be relegated to PvP. End of story.

Shaman rune:
Each time you get hit you have a chance at refreshing current 'shield' buff ie earth shield/water shield ect
This is mostly and entirely a problem for lightning shield, so just add that shield mastery makes lightning shield have no duration but let it do far less damage per proc, so you have a permanent strong thorns.
Balefire sounds like a warlock spell in name and flavor

If hunters get TNT I'll be so disappointed. I feel like outside of melee, hunter runes are so underwhelming. Give us something cool like incendiary rounds or venom coated arrows that converts a portion of our physical damage to fire/nature and have it scale off SP.

Ok, SP hunter would be the worst thing they could possibly do I think. Historically I think it’s the meme build to piss everyone off. And I personally hate it too, melee hunter has always been a dream for many, but look at how it became the absolute meta. It shoulda been good in its own right, but not so marginally better than ranged until no one wants a ranged hunter. So dumb.
Edit: to clarify that last point, SP hunter if made a thing will absolutely be the meta and will be another melee hunter fad. Which would imo, kill my love for the class entirely
@@bigbossadidoss8678 I personally think it would be fun. I really don't mind having new builds/specs being over tuned on debut - this phase is almost over. The whole idea of SOD is for experimentation.
Perhaps not to the point where hunter's BiS is full SP and they're taking (more) loot from other raid members. But that can be easily remedied by having the rune/talent converting X stat to SP.
As a shaman just give me 40 yard range base on all spells. Hunters and other classes that stay out of range of flame shock you stand no chance against.
Convert AP to SP for shaman would be awesome. Maybe too stonk but feels good pepefrog

If ele shamans could get 40 yard range Flame Shock it would be amazing! Both for PvE and PvP. It's just awkward sometimes if you have to move up to reapply flameshock to a boss & therefore delaying your Lava burst. Some bosses like Electrocutioner for example where the is movement. And in PvP sometimes you have to expose yourself a lot in order to cast, and everyone will target you as soon as you do.

Just want a movement/mobility rube for paladins. Something like increase movement speed for blessing of freedom or pursuit of justice increases movement speed when judging maybe.

Considering eviscerate for rogues doesn’t even hit as hard as mutilate I don’t see honor among thieves that strong even as it was shown here lol
Envenom does hit very hard though. I crit 1600-1700 and I'm nowhere near bis yet. This rune would be really strong.
with this rune, rogues will become a 1 button rotation pve class. Not that exciting, but at least it means more dmg
Eviscerate would do +50% damage on next rank and cost only 35 energy with 25 return from rune, it would be 100% worth to press eviscerate or envenom
Displacement for mages will be one of these things that people will cry about for sure.
The sword and board prot are a abysmal feeling. I can’t imagine why they want to make it synergistic with a crappy ability like shield slam.
All warrior is trash right now. They destroyed devestate and consumed by rage. That coupled with insanely high armor has made us useless.

I really wish Blizz would prioritise more new abilities than just cut/pasting. I think some are ok because they help smooth out specs like crusader strike. But Felguard again really? They could very easily have just plucked a random demon model we've never used before and thrown some abilities at it, or even inferno/doomguard as a permanent pet. Just feels too samey, it's still fun but I was hoping for more brand new stuff to play around with.
I also really hope they add a minimum of 6 runes for the new 2 rune slots next phase. Only having 3 each this phase meant most specs basically has 1 rune to play with, having some actual choice and variety to play around with would be nice.

I want druids to be able to use polearms and please! For the name of Elune! Make weapon procs work while shapeshifted!
Even better, give us dual wield so it actually makes sense for us to use fist weapons which are balanced around being dual wielded.
Druids should not be wielding martial weapons. It goes against their entire vibe and theme, and against DnD rules. One thing that destroyed WoW for me as it went through retail expansions was how they were compromising more and more on RPG aspects, to the point of obliterating them.
@holysecret2 when i see polearms i think spears. Dryads in ashenvale are using them! I think its lore friendly.

Maybe a str--->sp shaman rune. Maybe something to give a party wide buff from the fire totem.
This was going to be my suggestion as well. I believe in wrath there are 2 of them, mental dexterity and mental quickness. The first gives attack power based on intellect, and the 2nd gives spell power based on attack power (and reduces the mana cost of instant cast spells). Preferably, I'd want the 2nd. And for the final phase, feral spirits because duh, and maybe one of those quality of life things that increases the duration of weapon buffs. Maybe even make them permanent. (can you tell I let rockbiter drop while tanking >.> ?)

We need that kind of rune, gearing as an enhancement right now is just strange.
You can ignore spellpower completly and go full strenght/agi/crit.

Warrior Deep prot is better for utility until the end of the game, and better for threat until you're worldbuffed OR you're in some BWL gear. Shield slam is way better than Bloodthirst, until you have quite high AP/crit.
Shield slam just has awful scaling, with STR providing almost nothing, and block value being balanced around it's defensive properties against multiple smaller enemies. IIRC, it also doesn't get full value from crit, as only the damage portion is multiplied, and the flat threat value is unmodified, meaning 1% crit causes less than 1% threat increase.
Smite priest has always been a thing? I remember doing that in 2019 and always topped DPS charts
Hope dps warriors get some love. So far its the one class that feels exactly the same as era if not worse. Started raid logging way earlier in phase 2...hoping phase 3 is more fun class and content wise
I’d really love to see more utility and defensive runes. Throughput is already up significantly but most raid mechanics are still “don’t stand in this” as no one has new defensive ability apart from the tanks / priests. Adding more utility to classes might change that dynamic and raid-wide defensive cooldowns gives blizzard more tools to push players with in PvE. PvP desperately needs them too, it’s global or be globalled right now.
Which is better?
Paladin with all blessings and auras on. Even Titan's Grip and duel wielding. Even a D2 inspired cold aura that slows attacks and movement speed working on Raid Bosses.
Vs.
Warrior using Bladestorm with no cool down, but cost rage per second. Doing more damage and self healing 100% damage done, the longer it is used and spams it like a D3 or D4 Barbarian's Whirlwind clearing dungeons.
DoTs being able to crit I still think is only one step to making affliction viable. Being demo form or being SL spec are still great for pvp, and destro just has way too many stacking fire buffs that make incinerate spam unbeatable. I want affli to be viable so bad, I'll take this step in the right direction!
As a shaman at level 50 I want a rune that makes Rockbiter weapon last more than 5 mins and lightning shield to have more than 3 charges...that's all

Where as I'm all for warrs getting a proper sword and board fantsy I wish they'd also give us *something* that wasnt just another flat % buff for x conditions. So dull, definitely feels like they're gimping warriors on purpose to force more class diversity

What a shit rune is Purified Power , basicly almost useless due to the Art of War. The two only things that save paladin in pve so he wouldnt be bottom melee class third phase in a row, is give ability to seal twisting SoM with SoC, or attack speed increase rune, like flurry or Frenzied Assault (every melee class have some melee attack speed increase, for ferals its Automatic Crowd Pummeler, for melee hunter his pet compensates for the lack of flurry (by the way, hunter's BM pet also has flurry)) And Wrath rune is bad to, its transfers melee crit in to ranged, while all new items with crit already giving us crit for all attacks and spells, and did not increase bonus crit damage so it would do real crits, not a 1.5x pasta punch

Almost as imaginative as it was balanced, which mental midget decided P1 "yeah 30% bonus health and damage and 80% focus regen seems like a tank rune lulw" but if someone gets burst from a ranged hunter on the beta QUICK NERF LONE WOLF, CHIMERA SHOT! BM hunter pets that at 25 were already able to solo players in a lot of circumstances, yeah give me 30% health and damage kek fucking W
Love to see a rework in chain gear for bother tank and enhance...wearing leather and cloth set items as enhance is pretty bad...as we get 0 benefit from the sets. The stats on the tank and enhance sets are also pretty bad....I know in classic is it s mix and match gearing choice but as all of the gnomer gear was recently added it should reflect the class/spec it is designed for?
